Michelle Obama brutally roasted for bizarre deportation remarks

Sky News AU29-04-2025

Former first lady Michelle Obama has been brutally roasted online for comments she made during a podcast.
Accompanied by her brother Craig Robinson, the two discussed deportation on the podcast 'On Purpose with Jay Shetty'.
Obama and Robinson discussed their experiences growing up, when Shetty asked about recent tests of fear they've had.
Michelle brought up the recent climate of what's happening to immigrants in the United States.
'I do still worry about my daughters in the world, even though they are somewhat recognisable,' she said.
'I worry for people of colour all over this country, and I don't know that we will have the advocates to protect everybody, and that frightens me, it keeps me up at night.'

Barack Obama quashes divorce rumours with sweet Mother's Day post

The former president gushed over his wife Michelle on social media on Sunday. 'Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms and mother-figures! @MichelleObama, the girls and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you.' Barack shared the heartfelt post after he and Michelle were the subject of split rumours, following her absence from multiple political events, including President Jimmy Carter's funeral in January. That same month, the former first lady also skipped President Trump's second inauguration.

'Transitioning': Michelle Obama reveals she's in therapy as she focuses on her ‘next phase' - while Barack divorce rumours swirl

Former first lady Michelle Obama has revealed she's in therapy to help 'tune up' for the next phase of her life — as she continues to shoot down rumors that she and husband Barack are headed for divorce. 'At this phase of my life, I'm in therapy right now because I'm transitioning, you know?' the mom-of-two said in a recent interview on the Jay Shetty Podcast. 'I've finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact, I'm an empty nester, my girls are in—you know, they've been launched.' The 61-year-old acknowledged she now has 'other voices' to talk to and a 'new person that's getting to know me' as she navigates life outside of public service. 'So, I'm getting that tune-up for this next phase because I believe this is a whole 'nother phase in life for me. And I now have the wisdom to know—let me go get some coaching while I'm doing it,' she said. The ex-first lady admitted, too, that therapy sessions were helping her 'unwind some old habits' and 'sort through some old guilt.' Michelle has been making the media rounds of late with her brother Craig Robinson — and has repeatedly addressed the rampant speculation her three-decade marriage is on the rocks. The Obamas have been dogged by divorce gossip after Michelle opted to skip several high-profile events earlier this year — including President Trump's inauguration. 'If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,' she told entrepreneur Steven Bartlett in an interview last week. 'I would be problem-solving in public, like, 'Let me tell you what he did'.' She went on to say that marriage is 'hard' for them but she 'wouldn't trade it.' 'The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was ever really, ever going to quit at it, because that's not who we are. And I know that about him. He knows that about me,' she said. Originally published as 'Transitioning': Michelle Obama reveals she's in therapy as she focuses on her 'next phase' - while Barack divorce rumours swirl

Michelle Obama reveals why she decided to stop spanking her children

Michelle Obama felt "embarrassed" whenever she spanked her children. The 61-year-old former First Lady - has who has Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23 with her husband Barack Obama - admitted that it didn't take long after she became a mother to realise that she just "felt silly" whenever she would physically punish her daughters so decided to stop doing it altogether. Speaking on her 'IMO' podcast, she explained: "I felt silly. It took a couple of spankings for me to be like, yeah, you know what, this is a little kid and the fact that I can't think of any better way to get my point across than to smack somebody on the butt, I felt embarrassed." The 'Becoming' author also opined that that parents are "too afraid to set boundaries" these days and thinks that is proving to be a "challenge" for the current generation of children. She said: "I want to be a proponent for reinstating some of the stuff that we had. "When kids say 'I hate my mom', it's like, you better say that in your head, in your room. You don't say that out loud. You know, parents are too afraid to set those kinds of boundaries. And I think that's also part of the challenge that we're facing in this generation. "I think nowadays a lot of parents are trying to live their kids' lives for them so that they don't make any mistakes and don't feel any sense of failure which keeps them from learning. "I raised you to have some sense, to have judgment. And at some point, you've got to practice that, which means that I've got to let go." Michelle recently opened up on the struggle the high profile parents had with keeping their daughters' personal lives out of the spotlight, and she described it as "a lot of work". Speaking on SixiusXM's 'Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa', she recalled: "They had to drive and they had to go to prom and they were on teams and they traveled to other schools and they had to do college searches, and they went to parties and they had drinks, and they tried out smoking and they did all the things. "And every weekend was a nightmare, because we had to work to make sure that them being regular teenagers didn't wind up on Page Six."
