Rugby Championship 2025 fixtures, dates, venues, kick-off times confirmed

SANZAAR has confirmed the match schedule for the 2025 Rugby Championship that will be played from 16 August to 2 October.
The four unions have each announced their match venues for the tournament, but as of Tuesday, these and the match kick-off times have been finalised.
The Rugby Championship mini-tour format will remain in place with each team to play six matches comprising three home matches and three away matches.
Each team will host a two-match tour, will play an away two-match tour, and play a one-match home and away series against the third remaining team.
This year, South Africa will host Australia for two matches before heading to New Zealand for two away matches.
New Zealand will head to Argentina for its away mini-tour prior to hosting South Africa, while Australia will host Argentina for two matches.
The Bledisloe Cup home and away Tests between Australia and New Zealand will take place in Perth and Auckland this year, with South Africa and Argentina meeting in Durban and London.
The London fixture will be only the second time a Rugby Championship match has been played outside of the four core territories of Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
SANZAAR CEO Brendan Morris stated, 'The Rugby Championship is the pinnacle of southern hemisphere rugby and one of the world's most prestigious tournaments.
'This year will be no different as some of the best Test teams in the world do battle across 11 cities across the four nations.
'Anticipation is again high for the 2025 edition of the Rugby Championship as the top talent from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa do battle for southern hemisphere supremacy.
'South Africa are the current world champions and incumbent Rugby Championship champions, while Argentina are now fifth in the world rankings.
'New Zealand will warm-up with a Test series against France while the Wallabies have a big series against the British & Irish Lions to prepare for the championship.
'Tickets will be in demand for these matches so fans should book early as we anticipate big crowds at the stadiums, including iconic venues such as Eden Park in Auckland, Accor Stadium in Sydney, Ellis Park in Johannesburg and Estadio Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires.
'This year the tournament finishes with a match at Allianz Stadium Twickenham in London when Argentina host the Springboks.
'This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the Rugby Championship in the UK.
'All the action will be delivered by our host broadcast partners (ESPN, Stan/NEC, Sky New Zealand and SuperSport) and other territory rights holding broadcasters to ensure sports fans all around the world can tune into the world class rugby action.'
Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.co.uk and England Rugby, starting from just £55* for adults and £28* for Under-16s.
Hospitality packages are also available on www.allianzstadiumtwickenham.com

One Springbok refuses to slip quietly into retirement

Rassie Erasmus has recently welcomed a host of newcomers into the Springboks' wider training squad, and there is little doubt that some veterans will start to be phased out of frontline roles as some younger players continue to be integrated. Already last year as many as 50 players were used by Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus as he blooded a number of exciting youngsters with an eye on the 2027 World Cup, and the plan is to do the same again this year. Taking a long-term view, as many as 15 players from the 2023 Rugby World Cup-winning squad will be 35 or older by the time the next global showpiece rolls around, and one of those is Makazole Mapimpi, who will in fact soon celebrate his 35th birthday on 26 July. Although the flying wing is still in great shape, even he has admitted that it's highly unlikely he'd make it through to the next World Cup, and yet if recent form is anything to go by, perhaps he spoke too soon. Mapimpi has been simply sensational for the Sharks this season, undoubtedly one of their most consistent players, and most importantly – his pace as a wing hardly seems to be dropping off. When you add in the value of his experience, and as a leader, suddenly the Springbok coaches must be giving consideration to possibly managing his game-time to perhaps still be considered for their next title defence. Rassie Erasmus is always open to taking one or two veterans to the World Cup – think Schalk Brits and Deon Fourie – knowing that these mentors can add plenty of value to training, change room atmosphere and through mentorship. Not to mention also often playing key back up roles for some of the 'smaller' pool games. Despite his excellent try-scoring record, Mapimpi has lost his spot in the Springboks' first choice starting line-up to Kurt-Lee Arendse, who is another prolific try-scorer, but he undoubtedly remains next in the pecking order if there were to be an injury. Mapimpi may believe his age will count against him by the time the global showpiece comes around in Australia in 2027, but perhaps he – and the Springbok coaches – will need to think again. 'I think I'm good now, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make another World Cup. I'm not saying I won't, but I don't think so,' Mapimpi told reporters in Edinburgh towards the end of last year. 'There are a lot of players that have come in now, and it's a good thing for the team. There is going to be generation after generation, and for me, it's about assisting the players, especially if I'm not playing. 'I want to keep at this level until I retire,' he added. 'I don't want to disappoint myself and the coaches as well.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Strong Junior Bok squad named for U-20 world champs in Italy

Junior Springboks head coach Kevin Foote has included five players who will feature in their second World Rugby U-20 Championship in Italy, with lock Riley Norton retained as captain for the tournament from June 29 to July 19. Prop Phiwayinkosi Kubheka and flyhalf Ian van der Merwe have not played for the South Africa U-20s, while lock Jaco Grobbelaar, No 8 Stephanus Linde and outside back Jaco Williams are back in the squad after missing last month's U-20 Rugby Championship in Gqeberha. Kubheka played for the SA U-18s last year and Van der Merwe in 2023, while Linde toured with the Junior Boks in Georgia earlier this year before he picked up an injury that ruled him out of the Rugby Championship. Grobbelaar and Williams were involved with the United Rugby Championship squads for the Bulls and Sharks. Grobbelaar is one of the five players returning for a second World Rugby Championship stint, with utility forward Bathobele Hlekani, prop Herman Lubbe, loose forward Wandile Mlaba and scrumhalf Haashim Pead.

Reaction: Wild responses to Springbok training jerseys

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Pick n Pay had signed a four-year contract as a Tier 1 sponsor of SA Rugby, with the company's logo set to feature in gold on the back of the Springbok jersey and all other national teams. However, in what was a new aspect of the sponsorship model, it was also confirmed that the Pick n Pay logo will appear on the front of all national teams' training apparel. It's perhaps this 'fine print' that caught many off guard when the new Springbok training jerseys were showcased this week with the Pick N Pay logo emblazoned across the chest of a kit that was a rather strange mix of green and mustard yello. Of course, it didn't take long for social media to erupt, and while the look of the new Springbok training jerseys did come in for plenty of criticism and jokes, there is also an old adage that Pick N Pay will probably be keeping in mind: 'No press is bad press'.
