Tirupati-bound Spicejet flight returns to Hyderabad after technical snag with baggage door
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 19 (ANI): A Spicejet flight SG 2696 headed to Tirupati had to turn back to Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Thursday after the pilots saw an issue with the baggage door. The airline stated that the flight 'experienced an intermittent illumination of the AFT baggage door light after take-off.'
According to a Spicejet spokesperson, the pilots noticed the baggage door light was on after take-off and as a precautionary measure, returned to Hyderabad.
'On June 19, 2025, a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating the Hyderabad-Tirupati flight experienced an intermittent illumination of the AFT baggage door light after take-off. Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout. As a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to return to Hyderabad,' the airline spokesperson said.
The flight landed safely without making an emergency landing and passengers were deplaned normally.
Spicejet also confirmed that an alternate aircraft has been arranged for the passengers to allow them to go to Tirupati.
Notably, GMR, which manages the Hyderabad airport confirmed the return of the Spicejet flight, adding, 'Spicejet SG 2696 flight departed from Rajiv Gandhi International, Hyderabad airport to Tirupati Airport returned back and landed again in RGI Airport due technical issues.'
Yesterday morning, a bomb threat email targeting a Qatar Airways cargo flight was received at the Hyderabad airport, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement agencies, the GMR group said in an official statement.
Following the threat, the authorities launched a high-alert operation at the airport. 'A bomb threat email targeting a Qatar Airways cargo flight 8650 was received at the Hyderabad airport at 0631 hrs on June 18, 2025. The flight landed safely. A bomb threat assessment committee was formed, and all procedures were followed as per SOP,' GMR said.
In a separate incident, Hyderabad's Begumpet Airport also received a bomb threat, prompting an intense search operation across the airport premises.
Speaking to ANI, the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Begumpet said, 'Begumpet airport received a bomb threat mail this morning. We are currently conducting a thorough search of the airport and its premises with the bomb squad. Further details will be provided later.'
Authorities launched extensive checks with the help of bomb detection and disposal teams. As of now, no suspicious objects have been found.
There have been multiple incidents of several bomb threats reported at airports and flights in India, particularly after the crash of the Air India flight AI-171. (ANI)

Jaipur airport receives bomb threat; declared hoax after security search
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 20 (ANI): Jaipur Airport received a bomb threat on Thursday, which was later confirmed to be a hoax, police said. According to Airport Police Station officials, the threat message was received on the police control room's WhatsApp helpline number. Following the alert, a joint search operation was launched by the police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the airport premises. 'No suspicious object was found during the search operation,' Station House Officer (SHO) Sandeep Basera said. Preliminary checks have not found anything suspicious so far, officials said. Similarly, on Monday, officials informed that Lufthansa flight LH752, which was flying from Frankfurt to Hyderabad, was forced to return to Germany after a bomb threat was received. NIA Special Court sentences one more accused to rigorous imprisonment in Kolkata JMB terror conspiracy case
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): The Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sentenced one accused to six years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) anti-India terror conspiracy case in Kolkata on Thursday. According to a NIA press release, Najiur Rahman, Pavel and Joyram Byapari Joseph were sentenced under sections 120B, 468 & 471 of the IPC, sections 18 & 38 of the UA(P) Act, section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, and section 12 of the Indian Passport Act. In addition to RI, the court awarded him a fine of Rs 20,000. The STF police station at Kolkata had registered the case originally in July 2021 with regard to the illegal entry of Bangladeshi national Sk Shabbir, Joseph and others, into India. Members of JMB had hatched a conspiracy along with their unknown associates to wage a war against India by recruiting and motivating young Muslims from within India and Bangladesh. The youth were motivated to establish a 'Caliphate' by removing India's democratically elected government through use of criminal force, NIA said. NIA, which took over the case in August 2021, filed its main chargesheet against five accused persons in January 2022. All five are currently in judicial custody. Accused Rabiul Islam was convicted to five years RI and a fine of Rs. 20,000 in November 2024 in the case RC-19/2021/NIA/DLI. The trial against the remaining three accused is continuing, central agency said. (ANI)
