Mumbai Customs seize foreign currency of 50000 Saudi Riyal, diamond from passenger departing to Dubai
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 19 (ANI): Mumbai Customs of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) Airport seized foreign currency of 50000 Saudi Riyal (SAR) and diamond valued Rs 1,70,94,900 concealed inside handbag and body cavity from passenger departing to Dubai.
In a post on X, Mumbai Customs shared, 'Based on specific intel, Customs officers at CSMIA, Mumbai Customs Zone-III seized foreign currency of 50000 SAR and diamond weighing 652.20 Dia. Wt. Cts valued Rs 1,70,94,900/- concealed inside handbag and body cavity from pax departing to Dubai. Further investigation underway.'
In another incident Customs officers at CSMI Airport, nabbed 2 Indian nationals with 24.96 Kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 24.96 Crores from Thailand on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Mumbai Customs shared, 'In a major drug bust, CSMI Airport, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, on 18.06.25, nabbed 2 Indian nationals with 24.96 Kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs. 24.96Cr from Thailand. Swift follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of intended recipient. Further investigation is underway.'
On June 10, officers of the Airport Special Cargo , Mumbai Customs - Zone III, interdicted and seized 489 grams of cocaine, from consignment declared as 'Artificial Flowers & Cards.' So far 2 persons including one foreign national has been arrested, Mumbai Customs shared in a post on X.
Earlier in April, Customs officers of CSMI Airport, Mumbai, seized suspected cocaine worth around Rs 17.89 Crore and one passenger was arrested in the case, according to the press release.
'On April 1, based on spot profiling, one passenger who arrived from Nairobi to Mumbai via Doha was intercepted by the Customs Officers at CSMI Airport. During the detailed examination of the baggage, white coloured powdered substance purported to be Cocaine having a net weight of 1789 Grams approximately valued at Rs 17,89,00,000 was recovered from the false cavity of the trolley bag carried by her. The said passenger was arrested under the Provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985,' said official in a press release. (ANI)

Red sanders smuggler gets 5-year jail
Tirupati: RSS (Red Sanders Special) ADJ court on Thursday sentenced a smuggler to five years imprisonment for smuggling red sanders along with a fine of Rs 6 lakh. According to prosecution, RSASTF (Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task force) arrested the smuggler while he was smuggling red sanders logs in the forest area of Karakambadi forest beat, Tirupati division. The smuggler was prose-cuted in the ADJ court. Judge Narasimha Murthy upheld the prosecution and sentenced the smuggler for 5 years imprisonment and Rs 6 lakhs penalty. Following the conviction, the smuggler was handed over to the authorities of Nellore Central prison. Taskforce SP Srinivas appreciated the taskforce team for effectively persuading the case with strong evidence resulting in the conviction of a smuggler.

Air India Crash: 215 DNA Matches Found, 198 Bodies Handed Over To Families
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi on Thursday said that 215 DNA samples have been matched, and the mortal remains of 198 deceased in the Air India AI-171 plane crash have been handed over to their respective families. Speaking to reporters, Mr Joshi said, "215 DNA samples have been matched, of which the mortal remains of 198 deceased have been handed over to their the 198 deceased, 149 are Indian nationals, seven Portuguese, 32 British and one Canadian." He added that the mortal remains of 15 victims were dispatched by air and 183 by road via ambulances. Earlier in the day, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said that 222 victims of the AI-171 plane crash have been identified so far, including 214 based on DNA samples and eight without DNA matching. He said their remains have been handed over to their families. "Police also do their part of the investigation, but other agencies and the experts do the technical part, like analysing the black box, and the investigation is underway... 222 people have been identified so far, 214 based on DNA samples and eight were identified without DNA and their bodies have been handed over to their families," Mr Malik told reporters. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu held a high-level video conference with all Airport Directors across the country to review ground-level preparedness and passenger support mechanisms in the light of rescheduling of flights happening due to multiple reasons like post-accident checks, weather changes, closing of certain airspaces due to geopolitical tensions, etc. According to a release from the Civil Aviation Ministry, several directives were issued during the meeting, including Close liaison with airlines, which was emphasised to ensure passenger issues are addressed swiftly and on the spot. Availability of food, drinking water, and adequate seating facilities at terminals must be ensured, particularly during flight delays or congestion. Sufficient personnel must be deployed at key touchpoints to manage passenger grievances proactively. On June 12, the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

On June 17, Andhra Pradesh police recovered the bodies of Central Committee member Gajarla Ravi alias Uday, committee member Aruna, and another cadre, Anju, following an operation targeting the outlawed group. 'Effective action was taken against the banned and illegal CPI Maoist organisation... In this connection, on June 17, the bodies of Central Committee member Gajarla Ravi alias Uday and committee member Aruna and another cadre Anju were recovered by the Andhra Pradesh team. This caused a big loss to the Maoist organisation... This will reduce the activities of Maoists in the area...,' IG Sundarraj said. Earlier on Wednesday, a senior Naxal couple, active in Left Wing Extremism for the past 25 years, surrendered before the police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Chhattisgarh's Mohla Manpur district, which served as a huge setback to CPI Maoists. The couple, Jeevan Tulavi (45) alias Ram Tulavi and his wife Agasha (35) alias Aarti Korram, surrendered before Inspector General (IG) Rajnandgaon Range Abhishek Shandilya, Superintendent of Police YP Singh, and Commandant of 27 Battalion ITBP Vivek Kumar Pandey, along with officers from 44 Battalion ITBP. According to an official release from the ITBP, Jeevan Tulavi, a resident of Parvidih village under Mohla police station, was a Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) and the Education Unit Commander of the Maad Division. He had been declared a reward of Rs 8 lakh. Tulavi joined the CPI (Maoist) in 2008 and initially worked with the military wing of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) in South Rajnandgaon. Post-2012- 13, he was assigned to the Mobile Political School (MOPOS) of the Maad Division as a teacher propagating Maoist ideology. He has since led the division's education unit, travelling extensively across villages in Abujhmad and conducting ideological training through the Mobile Academic School (MAS). His wife, Agasha, is a resident of Telitola village under Mohla police station. She served as an Area Committee Member (ACM), worked with the press team of the Maad Division, and was the head of the Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) -- the cultural wing of the Maoists. Since the early 2000s, she has been involved as a singer, dancer, poet, orator, and composer, apart from handling computer operations and preparing press releases for the extremist group. (ANI)
