Red sanders smuggler gets 5-year jail
Tirupati: RSS (Red Sanders Special) ADJ court on Thursday sentenced a smuggler to five years imprisonment for smuggling red sanders along with a fine of Rs 6 lakh.
According to prosecution, RSASTF (Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task force) arrested the smuggler while he was smuggling red sanders logs in the forest area of Karakambadi forest beat, Tirupati division. The smuggler was prose-cuted in the ADJ court.
Judge Narasimha Murthy upheld the prosecution and sentenced the smuggler for 5 years imprisonment and Rs 6 lakhs penalty.
Following the conviction, the smuggler was handed over to the authorities of Nellore Central prison.
Taskforce SP Srinivas appreciated the taskforce team for effectively persuading the case with strong evidence resulting in the conviction of a smuggler.

Bombay HC stays interim order in domestic violence case, subject to ex-minister depositing 50% maintenance amount
The Bombay High Court on Thursday granted an interim stay on a trial court order that directed a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former minister to pay monthly interim maintenance to his estranged partner in a domestic violence case. However, the high court said that the stay is subject to his depositing the 50 per cent amount awarded in favour of the estranged partner in the court. The high court will hear the leader's plea after eight weeks. A single-judge bench of Justice Manjusha A Deshpande was hearing the NCP leader's plea, argued through advocates Shardul Singh and Sayali Sawant, that challenged an April 5 sessions court order that rejected his appeal against an interim order by a magistrate directing him to pay Rs 1.25 lakh to his estranged partner and Rs 75, 000 to their daughter. On February 4, a magistrate court in Bandra had partly allowed the woman's plea and ordered interim maintenance. The magistrate had observed that there was a prima facie proof of domestic violence against the former minister. However, the ex-minister approached the sessions court, challenging the magistrate's order. He claimed that he had never married the woman, and as the domestic relationship between them had ceased to exist, she could not file a plea under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. The sessions court, while rejecting the leader's appeal, had noted that he and his estranged partner and their daughter 'are entitled for the same lifestyle which is being enjoyed by the appellant. Even if it is presumed that respondent (estranged partner) is earning, she is also entitled for maintenance to maintain their lifestyle as of the appellant (NCP leader)'. Aggrieved by the same, the NCP leader approached the high court, claiming that documents relied upon by the respondent woman were 'fabricated and forged', and he had filed a police complaint regarding the same, and therefore the trial court order based on the same was 'erroneous'. The petitioner further claimed that the woman had a substantial income, which is reflected in her earlier election affidavit, which the trial court failed to consider. He added that he was not contesting the maintenance amount granted in favour of the daughter.

DRI seizes meth, ecstasy worth Rs 5 crore in Mumbai; Nigerian woman arrested
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 20 (ANI): Acting on specific intelligence, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, intercepted a Nigerian woman suspected of transporting narcotic substances from Delhi to Mumbai by bus. The operation, conducted late at night, involved a 50-kilometre surveillance trail before the woman was stopped and her baggage checked. 'Upon examination of her luggage, officers recovered food packets (oats) and juice tetra packs containing a crystalline substance and tablets. Laboratory testing using the NDPS Field Test Kit confirmed the substances to be 2.56 kilograms of methamphetamine and 584 grams of ecstasy tablets.' DRI said in a statement on Thursday. In a follow-up operation, the person who was to receive the consignment was also apprehended. The seized narcotics are valued at around Rs 5 crore in the international illegal drug market. The Nigerian national has been taken into custody under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is currently underway. In a separate incident on May 11 this year, DRI officials in Mumbai, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a male passenger--a Chadian national--who had arrived from Addis Ababa. During a personal search, gold bars of foreign origin were found cleverly concealed within the heels of his slippers. The total weight of the seized gold was 4,015 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 3.86 crore. In his voluntary statement, the passenger admitted to smuggling the gold to evade customs duties. The gold was seized, and he was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act of 1962. Further investigation was launched into the matter. Earlier in April, DRI officials also apprehended an Indian male passenger at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi. He was found carrying two kilograms of gold bars, valued at approximately Rs 1.91 crore. The agency seized the smuggled gold, and legal proceedings were initiated under the Customs Act. (ANI)

Gang targeted tribal women in remote areas During the probe that followed, another victim approached the police, stating she had been sold to a brothel in Madhya Pradesh for Rs 1.10 lakh. She managed to escape and return home last month. Police officials revealed that the gang specifically targeted tribal women from remote mandals such as Kerameri and Tiryani, where several women had been reported missing in recent years. Investigations confirmed that at least some of these women had been trafficked in a similar manner. This is not the first such case in the region. In 2015, two tribal women from Indravelly mandal were reportedly kidnapped and sold in Rajasthan. Asifabad police have registered cases against nine accused and arrested six of them so far. Those arrested include police constable Kameri Haridas (PC-1669), Pariki Pandla Vijaya Laxmi, Sathyamshetty Sujatha, Boire Panchapula, Taduri Usha and Durgam Sudhakar. Three others — Basher Ramesh Goud, Basher Surekha and Soni Jagadeesh — are absconding.
