A search operation is currently underway in the jungle as security forces intensify anti-insurgency efforts in a Left-wing insurgency-affected state, where over 100 rebels have been killed so far this year.
A police statement said that a joint team of the district reserve guard (DRG) and the special task force (STF) was conducting an anti-Maoist operation on Wednesday based on intelligence inputs about the presence of senior cadres from the Maoists' Maad division in the area.
The encounter started at night inside the forest under Kohkameta police station limits in the Abhujmaad area.
'So far, bodies of two women Maoists along with an INSAS rifle and a .315 bore rifle have been recovered from the spot,' the statement added.

There have been a series of anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh as part of the Union government's target to end Left-wing insurgency by March 31, 2026. In 2024, 219 Maoists were killed in Chhattisgarh, compared to 22 in 2023 and 30 in 2022.
Narayanpur, Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Kanker, Kondagaon, and Sukma in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division are known as the epicenter of Maoist insurgency. Thousands of forces have been deployed there for the anti-Maoist operations in what is known as the 'Red Corridor' to push back rebels, take over their hideouts in forests and cripple their fortifications.

AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satyendra Jain booked in alleged hospital scam
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi government on Thursday filed a first information report against Aam Aadmi Party leaders and former ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of 24 hospitals, reported The Indian Express. The case stems from a complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vijender Gupta in August. Gupta had alleged that Bharadwaj and Jain were involved in systematic manipulation of project budgets, misuse of public funds and collusion with private contractors, according to the newspaper. In 2018-'19, the then- Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi sanctioned 24 hospital projects, of which 11 were greenfield and 13 brownfield, for Rs 5,590 crore, reported ANI. However, unexplained delays and massive cost overruns 'amounting to several hundred crores' have been found in the projects, the news agency quoted Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma as saying. Verma added that none of the projects have been completed within the stipulated time. The development and improvement of an existing project is classified as brownfield while construction of a new facility is considered a greenfield. In its FIR, the Anti-Corruption Branch has also flagged alleged irregularities in the construction of the Rs 1,125 crore Intensive Care Unit hospital project, which was intended to be completed in six months but remains only 50% finished after nearly three years and an expenditure of Rs 800 crore, The Indian Express reported. The branch further claimed that upon verification of Gupta's complaint, it was found that unauthorised constructions had taken place at government hospitals in Jwalapuri and Madipur. Further, the construction of a new block at the Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Hospital awarded to Swadeshi Civil Infrastructure Private Limited saw costs jump from Rs 488 crore to Rs 1,135 crore with construction still incomplete, claimed the Anti-Corruption Branch. It was due to be completed by January 2023, ANI reported. Significant mismanagement of funds was also observed in a polyclinic project, with only 52 out of 94 clinics being built and costs rising from Rs 168 crore to Rs 220 crore, alleged the branch. It added that many of these polyclinics remain non-functional, according to The Indian Express.

Gujarat AAP MLA Umesh Makwana resigns from party posts, alleges caste bias; suspended hours later for ‘anti-party' activity
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Botad, Umesh Makwana, resigned from his party posts on Thursday, levelling allegations of caste-based discrimination against the party. Makwana, who was AAP's Whip in the Gujarat Assembly and a national joint secretary, said he would consult his constituents before deciding whether to resign as MLA. He had said he would continue as an AAP worker, but hours later, the party announced his suspension for five years, citing 'anti-party' and 'anti-Gujarat' activities. The development comes shortly after AAP's Gopal Italia won the Visavadar assembly bypoll. Addressing a press conference in Gandhinagar, Makwana—who belongs to the Koli community, classified as OBC—alleged that AAP, like other political parties, 'fails to support backward communities beyond elections'. 'Whether it is AAP, BJP or Congress, all use backward communities as vote banks. After elections, leaders from these communities are sidelined,' he said. Claiming that upper caste leaders are prioritised for prominent positions within AAP, Makwana said, 'The party does not raise its voice for backward communities. When it comes to giving key posts, preference is given to the swarna samaj (upper castes).' He added, 'I have sent my resignation directly to Arvind Kejriwal (the party's national convener) on WhatsApp. But I will continue working as an AAP worker.' On whether he would quit the Assembly as well, he said, 'I will consult the people of Botad. They trusted me with this position, and I will not do anything that betrays that trust.' Makwana denied that his resignation was linked to Gopal Italia potentially being appointed party Whip. 'I have not received any such message from the party,' he said. Citing recent bypolls in Kadi and Visavadar, Makwana accused the party of caste-based bias in campaign support. 'Our Kadi candidate, a Dalit, fought the election after taking a Rs 10 lakh loan. He got no support. In contrast, Gopal Italia, a Patidar, had the entire party machinery behind him. Crores were spent in Visavadar. This discrimination will not be tolerated,' he alleged. 'You keep Babasaheb's photo, but if you don't follow his ideals, you can't do politics in his name,' he added. In response, Gujarat AAP president Isudan Gadhvi said the party had suspended Makwana for five years. 'We had been receiving complaints of corruption from Botad against him. He was warned multiple times. The leadership has now taken a final decision,' he said. Gadhvi also alleged the BJP was attempting to destabilise AAP by poaching its leaders. 'If Makwana has the courage, he should resign as MLA and recontest. I challenge the BJP to give him a ticket and try to win Botad,' he said. AAP spokesperson Yogesh Jadvani rejected Makwana's allegations of bias, saying the party had given him multiple opportunities. 'Within 15 days of joining AAP, he was made head of the OBC/SC/ST cell, later became a state spokesperson, then an MLA in 2022, national joint secretary, and Whip. He was also fielded from Bhavnagar in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. AAP gave Umeshbhai his political identity,' Jadvani said. He added, 'When the Koli community needed him, he was often absent. Other AAP leaders, from both upper and backward castes, stepped in. He is now speaking the BJP's language.' On the allegation that AAP neglected its candidate in Kadi, Jadvani said, 'The Kadi candidate hasn't made any complaint. Umeshbhai was assigned responsibility for Kadi, but he did not remain present during the campaign.' Responding to Gadhvi's accusations, BJP Gujarat media convener Yagnesh Dave said, 'Isudanbhai is in the habit of blaming BJP for everything. He should look inward and understand why people are leaving his party. BJP has 162 seats and doesn't need to poach MLAs. He should hold himself accountable.'

Two held in Bihar with 1 kg heroin valued at Rs 1 crore
Patna: In a significant crackdown in Bihar on narcotics trafficking, the Kishanganj Police, in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), arrested two individuals near the railway station on Thursday and seized one kg heroin from their possession, an official said. The estimated market value of the seized substance is around Rs 1 crore. Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Sagar Kumar described the seizure and arrest a major achievement, stating that the joint team has successfully busted an inter-state drug trafficking network. The arrested individuals have been identified as Baliram Chaurasia, a resident of Shivrampur, Ballia district (Uttar Pradesh) and Lalita Devi, a resident of Muzaffarpur district (Bihar). According to SP Sagar Kumar, the police acted on specific intelligence input about the smuggling of banned substances through the district. A special team led by SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar was constituted to monitor suspicious activity in the area. 'The team intensified surveillance near the railway station, where they spotted the two suspects. Upon searching them, we recovered the banned substance,' said SP Kumar. During questioning, the accused revealed that they were tasked by a person from Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) to travel to Manipur and smuggle heroin back. The arrested individuals were en route from Manipur when they were apprehended in Kishanganj, Bihar. 'At this point, we are withholding the name of the person who assigned them this task due to an ongoing investigation,' added the SP. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Town Police Station of the district against them. The police are now working to identify and apprehend other members of the smuggling network. A team will soon go to Ratlam to apprehend the kingpin of the racket. The district police are also verifying how they obtained heroin in Manipur. SP Sagar Kumar emphasised that the crackdown on drug trafficking will continue, and such operations are part of a larger campaign to curb the illegal narcotics trade in the region.
