‘Just hit him?' Former Red Sox debate whether Boston should throw at Rafael Devers
Things ended on a sour note between Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox. But did things get so back that the team would opt to hit their former star with a pitch when they meet this weekend?
That was the topic tossed around by a pair of ex-Red Sox players on the show, 'Foul Territory.'

Appearing as a guest, former Boston closer Jonathan Papbelbon said he doesn't expect any smiles and handshakes with Devers when his old team comes to town to face his Papelbon on Friday.
'I think that they've cut the ties and I think all relationships are severed between everyone in that dugout, in the clubhouse and the front office with Raffy Defers,' Papelbon said. 'So I don't think there's going to be any smiles at all.'
Co-host A.J. Pierzynski, who played for the Red Sox in 2014, took it a step forward by asking if Boston would consider plunking Devers with a pitch.
Papelbon didn't think it would happen – not in today's game at least.

'They don't do that anymore. Guys don't do it,' Papelbon said.
Pierzynski and Papelbon agreed that, in years past, the possibility of the Red Sox throwing at a former disgruntled player would be on the table.
Pierzynsky said that, if Red Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez was around, then there 'would have been some action.'
Papelbon said he'd been part of that type of scenario himself. The former closer said that then-manager Terry Francona told him to throw at Manny Ramirez after the slugger had been traded to the Chicago White Sox in 2010.
'I don't know if it's gonna happen or not. Maybe Alex Cora calls in somebody to drill him or not. I don't know, but I highly doubt it,' Papelbon said.

Pierzynski, who had a reputation for stirring the pot as a player, floated a scenario where the Red Sox 'accidentally' hit Devers in his first at-bat against his old team.
Both players agreed that it would trigger a brawl, regardless of whether it was on purpose.
'Even if it's not accidental or not, (it) just hit him. Maybe on purpose or maybe not,' Papelbon said,
We'll see how Devers and the Red Sox handle their reunion when the team takes on San Francisco Friday night.

Torrey Craig gives an update on Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum's Achilles rehab
Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been keeping a low profile since he went down with a torn Achilles tendon against the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. And given the anguish that injury created for the St. Louis native, we can hardly blame him. But Tatum has been, by all accounts, hard at work rehabbing that ankle so he can get back on the court as soon as possible and better than ever. Veteran teammate Torrey Craig has been in Auerbach Center this summer as well, and has seen the Duke alum grinding. "He loves the game so much and basketball means so much to him," said Craig in a recent interview with CLNS Media's Noa Dalzell and Bobby Manning. "He puts so much hard work into it, and dedication and sacrifice, and all of the above. For something like this to happen at that moment, in the playoffs, it's just gut-blowing." Who are the best fits for the Boston Celtics in the 2025 NBA draft?
Who are the best fits for the Boston Celtics in the 2025 NBA draft? The Celtics will likely need to add depth to their backcourt and big man rotations if cost-cutting trades are made by the front office to address a potentially historic tax bill. And with Boston controlling the Nos. 28 and 32 picks overall in the first and second rounds overall, respectively, the Celtics have a good shot of finding help at those spots in the draft, but which prospects are the best fit for the team moving forward? The cohost of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, took some time to sit down with "NBA Big Board" podcast host and draft expert Rafael Barlow to talk through which players in a range Boston could get to that would be the best fit for the team's needs and culture. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about who they think the Celtics ought to draft. Giants land Rafael Devers in stunning Red Sox trade
The post Giants land Rafael Devers in stunning Red Sox trade appeared first on ClutchPoints. Drama has enveloped the Boston Red Sox and Rafael Devers at points in the 2025 MLB season. Now, the two sides have separated in rather stunning fashion. The Red Sox are trading their designated hitter to the San Francisco Giants, as first reported by FanSided insider Robert Murray. Advertisement The Red Sox are receiving a package of players in return. What the entire package entails is currently unknown. However, there is some information. Boston is receiving right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks and left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, according to Murray. The other parts of this package are outfield prospect James Tibbs and pitching prospect Jose Bello. Harrison was meant to be the Giants' starter on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, he was scratched from the start due to his involvement in this blockbuster trade. It appears as if Sean Hjelle will take the mound instead, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Why Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to Giants John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images Boston has experienced an inescapable storyline this season over where Devers plays. This began when the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman in free agency. Devers immediately remarked to the media that he would remain the third baseman moving forward. Advertisement However, he did not take the glove on Opening Day. Bregman took over as the third baseman for Boston to begin the year. Devers accepted the designated hitter's role, though the situation became more complicated in early May when first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury. Devers again declined to move positions, this time to first base. He did recently begin participating in infield drills, Red Sox manager Alex Cora shut down talk of the All-Star slugger taking the field in 2025. 'We talk, but he's my DH,' the Boston skipper said, via reporter Conor Roche, 'Let's leave it at that.' Whether Devers has the opportunity to take the field with the Giants remains to be seen. In any event, San Francisco has bolstered its lineup in a big way. The Red Sox, meanwhile, are left to build their lineup without one of their usual All-Star presences in the middle of the order.
