The loneliness of remote work: 7 signs Gen Z and millennials are quietly struggling
When remote work became mainstream, it felt like a generational win — especially for Gen Z and Millennials, who had long questioned rigid office culture. Finally, we had the freedom to work from anywhere, wear what we wanted, and reclaim time for ourselves.
But several years in, the happy-phase is over.
What many young professionals are now experiencing isn't just burnout — it's the slow, quiet ache of disconnection. There are no watercooler chats, no after-work plans, and often, no real sense of community. Remote work has solved many problems, but it has also created new ones — and for Gen Z and Millennials, those problems often go unseen.
Here are 7 signs remote work is quietly taking a toll — and what you can actually do to push back.
You're communicating constantly, but still feel disconnected
Sure, you ping coworkers with memes or drop emojis in Slack threads. But without real, unplanned human interactions — quick coffee breaks, casual brainstorming, or shared side-eyes during meetings — remote communication can feel mechanical, even isolating.
Zoom fatigue doesn't help either. When every interaction is scheduled, performative, or boxed into a rectangle, connection starts to feel like a chore.
What to do:
Start small: DM a teammate just to check in, without a work agenda.
Join casual online spaces like hobby channels, meme groups, or book clubs.
Opt for voice or walk-and-talk calls to reduce screen fatigue.
You're working hard, but feel like no one notices
You hit deadlines.

You're responsive. You're 'on.' But somehow, you feel invisible.
In remote settings, visibility isn't automatic. If you're introverted, new, or not physically in the room, it's easy to be overlooked for mentorship, projects, or praise — even if you're delivering results.
What to do:
Share your wins in team channels to keep your work visible.
Ask your manager for feedback and clarify your growth path.
Volunteer for cross-functional or public-facing projects.
You're never truly off the clock
Your bedroom doubles as your office. Emails bleed into dinner. Slack notifications buzz long after dark. 'Work from anywhere' can quickly become 'work all the time.'
Without boundaries, rest becomes optional — and guilt about 'not doing enough' becomes constant.
What to do:
Create hard stops: shut your laptop, switch locations, change clothes.
Block time for meals, breaks, and walks — and treat them like meetings.
Use structure tools like Pomodoro timers or focus apps to reclaim routine.
You feel stuck in your career before it even begins
Many Gen Z professionals started their careers remotely — with no real office, onboarding, or mentor presence. That means missing the unspoken stuff: observing how meetings work, learning through casual chats, or being pulled into conversations you didn't know you needed.
Without these moments, early-career growth can stall — or feel like a lonely uphill climb.
What to do:
Ask to shadow teams or join optional calls just to learn.
Schedule regular 1:1s with leaders, even for informal chats.
Seek out internal mentorship or buddy programs.
You're struggling mentally, but no one sees it
Remote work lets you hide in plain sight. You can smile on camera, type 'All good!' in chat, and disappear when it gets hard. And because others don't see your body language, mood, or silence, you might suffer for weeks without anyone checking in.
The worst part? You may start thinking you should be okay — that flexibility should cancel out everything else.
What to do:
Normalize emotional check-ins, even with close coworkers.
Use therapy apps, journaling tools, or peer support groups.
Take personal days — you don't need to justify rest.
You feel ungrounded, even if you're free to roam
Remote work gives the illusion of freedom — digital nomads, travel, independence.
But in reality, many feel emotionally untethered. Without a consistent environment or local network, it's hard to build routine or belonging.
Eventually, you start asking:
Where do I actually belong?
What to do:
Stay in one place long enough to form local routines.
Anchor your week with habits — co-working days, recurring meetups, favorite cafés.
You miss real community
The office once gave us built-in friendships, mentors, even roommates. Now? Community isn't handed to you — you have to create it. Across platforms, across time zones, with intention and courage.
It's hard work.
But without it, remote life can feel emotionally starved.
What to do:
Host recurring virtual or real life gatherings — game nights, dinner parties, clubs.
Join alumni meetups, coworking mixers, or professional Slack communities.
Don't wait for invites. Be the person who reaches out.
Remote work still offers freedom, flexibility, and autonomy. But it also demands more from us — more self-advocacy, more structure, and more effort to stay connected.
If you're feeling lonely, stuck, or unseen, you're not doing it wrong. You're just discovering what remote work doesn't automatically provide: real connection, mentorship, emotional safety, and a sense of place.
The question isn't how to be more productive from home — it's how to feel more human while doing it.

Bangladesh slashes Adani Power dues with $384 million payment, $500 million still outstanding
Bangladesh paid USD 384 million to Adani Power in June, significantly reducing its outstanding dues under a power supply agreement with the Indian firm, according to sources. In June (till June 27), Bangladesh has paid USD 384 million of the committed USD 437 million to be paid during the month, two sources aware of the matter said. This would clear Bangladesh's "admitted" claims till March 31. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo With this, Adani's "claimed" dues, while still substantial, will come down to around USD 500 million (assuming Bangladesh meets its month-end commitment), they said. Bangladesh has struggled to meet its payment obligations under the 2017 deal, as rising import costs following the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 and domestic political turmoil - which led to the ouster of prime minister Sheikh Hasina - strained the country's finances. Live Events As a result, Adani had halved supply last year and full supplies were resumed in March 2025 after the country's monthly payments started covering some of the dues. With the latest payments, Bangladesh has paid nearly USD 1.5 billion of the roughly USD 2 billion total billed amount. Adani has reportedly agreed to waive late payment surcharge (LPS) for January-June period, amounting to about USD 20 million, if Bangladesh keeps its payment commitment. Sources said both parties are engaged in discussion to resolve some issues related to coal cost and plant capacity calculations. These are the key reasons behind the difference between "claimed" and "admitted" dues. When contacted, an Adani Power spokesperson confirmed the payments but didn't share details on "claimed" and "agreed" dues stating these discussions are private. The 2017 power supply deal between Adani Power and Bangladesh had come in for scrutiny after the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led government last year. Interim government, led by Nobel Peace prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, called for the formation of a high-level committee, comprising energy and legal experts, to re-examine the power purchase agreement (PPA). Under the 2017 deal, Adani Power's Godda power plant in Jharkhand was to supply 100 per cent of the electricity generated from burning coal, to Bangladesh for a period of 25 years. After payment defaults, Adani had cut supplies by half in November 2024. It restored full electricity supply, which is around 1,600 MW, in March after the country reduced liabilities. Bangladesh stepped up repayments from July last year, clearing monthly dues. This came after the country suffered from increased power shortages in rural areas. Bangladesh has been struggling to generate sufficient dollar revenues to cover the cost of essential imports such as electricity, coal, and oil. Its foreign currency reserves declined amid months of student-led protests and political unrest, which culminated in the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024. The interim government that succeeded her sought an additional USD 3 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on top of the existing USD 4.7 billion bailout package. Adani's power deal with Bangladesh was one of the many under Sheikh Hasina, which the current interim government has called opaque. Besides Adani Power, other Indian state-owned firms also sell power to Bangladesh, including NTPC and PTC India Ltd .

Jeff Bezos weds Lauren Sanchez: Bride's wedding dress took 900 hours to make and it's absolutely jaw-dropping
Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos exchanged vows on June 27, 2025, in a lavish Venetian ceremony held at San Giorgio Maggiore. Sanchez donned a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown, while Bezos sported a classic tux. The three-day celebration, attended by A-list celebrities, reportedly cost $55 million, solidifying its place as one of the year's most extravagant weddings. So, big news: Lauren Sanchez married Jeff Bezos on June 27, 2025, in a jaw-dropping ceremony on San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice. And yes, it was pretty much the wedding of the decade. Lauren stole the show in a breathtaking Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown - get this, it took over 900 hours of artisan craftsmanship to bring to life, according to Harper's Bazaar. The dress featured long sleeves, a sleek corseted waist that played up her figure, and a turtleneck that gave it that classy, old-world vibe. But the real showstopper? A mermaid-style skirt paired with 180 silk-covered buttons trailing down the floor-length train. Talk about fairytale bridal. Lauren shared BTS snaps of the dress on her social channels, calling it 'not just a gown, a piece of poetry.' And honestly, the moment spoke for itself, it was the perfect dress for a ceremony so grand and romantic. Jeff looked just as sharp in a classic black Dolce & Gabbana tux. Together, they made quite the power couple - fancy, timeless, and ultra-coordinated. Their first official wedding snap? Pure elegance. The wedding itself went down on San Giorgio Maggiore, a stunning island spot right across from St. Mark's Square. It was a massive three-day affair filled with A-listers: Bill Gates, Kim & Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Ivanka Trump, Orlando Bloom… the list goes on. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Worth every bit of the reportedly $55 million price tag, making it one of the priciest weddings we've seen this year. The ceremony kicked off beautifully with Matteo Bocelli serenading guests with 'Can't Help Falling in Love.' Such a romantic vibe for a love story that's pretty much modern legend. Earlier in the day, before the main event, Lauren was spotted in a cool throwback-chic, all-white suit and silk headscarf as she left the Aman Hotel. Jeff rocked a sharp black tux and aviators, low-key prelude to the big wedding finale. Fun twist: the couple originally planned to wed on June 28 at Scuola Grande della Misericordia but had to switch venues last minute due to protests. Seems like the glam life doesn't come without its drama. All in all, from the couture-level dress and star-studded guest list to the dreamy Venetian backdrop, this wedding had it all. Lauren and Jeff? Definitely know how to pull off a wedding for the social media (and history) books.
