JI announces protests against Israeli aggression
Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly condemned Israeli military actions in Palestine, denouncing the international community, particularly Muslim countries, for being silent spectators.
Speaking during an emergency press conference held at the party's headquarters in Mansoora on Sunday, he announced a nationwide solidarity campaign with the Palestinian people, including a series of protest rallies to be held outside US diplomatic missions.
The demonstrations are scheduled for April 11 in Lahore, April 13 in Karachi, and April 20 in Islamabad, which he said are intended to "send a strong message" against Israeli atrocities.
"The true face of Western powers and Muslim regimes backing Israel has been exposed," he said, accusing some Muslim governments of aligning with the Zionist state under US patronage at the cost of regional stability and moral responsibility.
The JI emir denounced Muslim leaders for their "failure to respond decisively".
"Had there been any honour or courage left in the Muslim world, Israel would not have dared to commit such barbarism," he said.
He alleged that over 80,000 homes had been destroyed in the West Bank, thousands imprisoned and that Israel is carrying out a campaign of genocide.
He warned that those cooperating with Israel were betraying the Ummah and inflicting long-term damage. "It is the collective duty of the Muslim world to raise its voice for Al-Quds and the Palestinian people," he added.
Touching on the domestic issues, Hafiz Naeem dismissed the government's recent decision to reduce electricity bills as insufficient, adding that citizens continue to face high inflation and severe economic hardship while the government implements "cosmetic measures".
In response to a media question, he said Jamaat-e-Islami plans to send a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General in the coming months, documenting alleged Israeli aggression and seeking to awaken global conscience.
He also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify reports about a Pakistani delegation allegedly visiting Israel. If such individuals exist, he said, they should be detained and questioned about who authorised their trip, which he said contradicts Pakistan's official foreign policy.
He appealed to religious scholars, including Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Muneebur Rehman, to issue Shariah guidance regarding the concept of Jihad in the context of Israeli actions in Gaza.
He said such religious leadership could influence Muslim rulers to take concrete action in defence of Palestinians.

US can force India into 'dialogue with Pakistan'
Listen to article Head of a high-level parliamentary delegation Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said US President Donald Trump should encourage India to engage in a "comprehensive dialogue" with Pakistan. The delegation is visiting Washington DC to present Islamabad's position following a recent military standoff with New Delhi. Weeks after their worst military confrontation in decades, India and Pakistan have dispatched top lawmakers to press their cases in the United States, where President Donald Trump has shown eagerness for diplomacy between them. After crisscrossing the world, the delegations descended this week at the same time on Washington, which played a key mediatory role in a ceasefire after four days of fighting between the nuclear-armed adversaries in May. In strikingly similar strategies, the rival delegations are both led by veteran politicians who have been critical of their countries' governments and are known for their ease in speaking to Western audiences. Pakistan has embraced an active role for the Trump administration while India, which has close relations with Washington, has been more circumspect and has long refused outside mediation on the Kashmir dispute. "Just like the United States and President Trump played a role in encouraging us to achieve this ceasefire, I believe they should play their part in encouraging both sides to engage in a comprehensive dialogue," said former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, whose Pakistan People's Party says it belongs neither to the governing coalition nor opposition.
