Israel's Netanyahu orders immediate talks to ‘end war, release all hostages' amid Gaza take over plan
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued to hammer the region's largest city ahead of a major planned offensive.
"I have come to approve the IDF's (military's) plans to take control of Gaza City and defeat Hamas," Netanyahu said in a video statement. He added, "At the same time, I have instructed to immediately begin negotiations for the release of all our hostages and the end of the war under conditions acceptable to Israel."
The calls for renewed negotiations come just a day after the defence ministry approved a plan to call around 60,000 reservists to help take over Gaza City, the final stronghold of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Without providing any details of what the talks would entail, the Israeli PM said, "These two matters -- defeating Hamas and releasing all our hostages -- go hand in hand."
Mediators have been awaiting an official Israeli response after Hamas accepted the latest ceasefire proposal earlier this week. The new deal comprises the staggered release of hostages, while Israel has insisted that any deal should see all the captives released at once, news agency AFP reported, citing Palestinian sources.

Hamas on Wednesday condemned Israel's Gaza take over plan and said that it showed its "blatant disregard" for the efforts of the mediators to broker a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
"Today's announcement by the terrorist occupation army of the start of an operation against Gaza City and its nearly one million residents and displaced persons... demonstrates... a blatant disregard for the efforts made by the mediators," the militant group said in a statement.
The Red Cross also joined the international condemnation of Israel's move and called its actions "intolerable".
Meanwhile, the Israeli reservists said that the call-up of reservists would begin in early September, adding that the second phase of operation "Gideon's Chariots" had begun.
An air struck on the northern outskirts of Gaza City on Thursday, with a massive explosion leaving behind large plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
Strikes reportedly increased late in the afternoon as several large explosions were heard near the border.
"We are advancing with the efforts toward operations in Gaza City," military chief Eyal Zamir told troops on Thursday.
"We already have troops operating on the outskirts of the city, and more forces will join them later on," he added.
The Israeli military said that it also began informing medical personnel and air groups in northern Gaza this week to start making evacuation plans and transferring their equipment to the south.
However, the Gaza health ministry rejected the Israeli army's call on Thursday and said it would not agree to "any step that would undermine what remains of the health system after the systematic destruction carried out by the occupation authorities".
The UN humanitarian agency has warned that Israel's plan to expand military operations in Gaza City would have a "horrific humanitarian impact" on the already exhausted population.

Trump Administration Reviews 55 Million US Visa Holders For Deportation Violations
The State Department said Thursday that it's reviewing the records of more than 55 million foreigners who hold valid U.S. visas for potential revocation or deportable violations of immigration rules. In a written answer to a question posed by The Associated Press, the department said that all U.S. visa holders are subject to "continuous vetting" with an eye toward any indication that they could be ineligible for the document. Should such information be found, the visa will be revoked and, if the visa holder is in the United States, he or she would be subject to deportation. The department said it was looking for indicators of ineligibility, including visa overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization. "We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility," the department said. Since President Donald Trump took office in January, his administration has thus far focused on deporting migrants illegally in the United States as well as holders of student and visitor exchange visas. The State Department's new language suggests that the re-vetting process, which officials acknowledge is time-consuming, is far more widespread. The administration has steadily imposed more and more restrictions and requirements on visa applicants, including requiring all visa seekers to submit to in-person interviews. But the review of all visa holders appears to be a significant expansion of what had initially been a re-vetting process focused mainly on students who have been involved in pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel activity. Officials say the reviews will include all the visa holders' social media accounts, law enforcement and immigration records in their home countries, along with any actionable violations of U.S. law committed while they were in the United States. "As part of the Trump Administration's commitment to protect U.S. national security and public safety, since Inauguration Day the State Department has revoked more than twice as many visas, including nearly four times as many student visas, as during the same time period last year," the department said. Earlier this week, the department said that since Trump returned to the White House, it has revoked more than 6,000 student visas for overstays and violations of local, state and federal law, the vast majority of which were assault, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and support for terrorism. Israeli PM slams Australian premier Anthony Albanese for ‘appeasement' of terrorists, calls him a ‘weak leader'
Jerusalem, Aug 21 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attacking his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese for his decision to formally recognise Palestine, slammed Canberra's 'appeasement' of terror groups and their supporters in the West. Vowing to continue with the military offensive launched in Gaza, the Israeli premier maintained that he will press on with the current course of action, and occupy Gaza militarily, regardless of whether Hamas surrenders or agrees to release hostages, reports Times Of Israel. 'We're going to do that anyway. That there was never a question that we're not going to leave Hamas there,' he said, adding that the war 'could end today' if the terror group 'lays down its arms and releases the remaining 50 hostages, at least 20 of which are alive.' 'I'm sure he has a reputable record as a public servant, but I think his record is forever tarnished by the weakness that he showed in the face of these Hamas terrorist monsters,' Netanyahu said of Albanese in an interview with Sky News Australia.
