‘Anti-India in spirit': BJP on Bhagwant Mann's ‘one nation one husband' remark over Operation Sindoor

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's recent remark mocking Operation Sindoor sparked a political controversy in the country and led to severe criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused him of insulting the Indian Armed Forces. At the centre of the controversy is Bhagwant Mann's bizarre quip during a press conference, where he referred to reports that the BJP would distribute Sindoor in households, saying, "Will you wear sindoor in Modi's name?" Is this "One Nation, One Husband" scheme? The phrase 'One Nation, One Husband' instantly ignited outrage online and in political circles. BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal shared the video of CM Mann's comments on X and said, "Bhagwant Mann crosses all limits! Mocking Operation Sindoor, he shamelessly asks: "Will you wear sindoor in Modi's name? Is this One Nation, One Husband?" Baliawal clarified that Operation Sindoor was a response to terrorists killing Hindus after checking their religion, with sindoor being a marker used to identify women. He also accused Mann of having "zero sensitivity" and criticised him for mocking the Indian Army, insulting Veer Naris, and turning sacred symbols into jokes. The BJP Punjab spokesperson also called for Bhagwant Mann's immediate resignation. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also echoed the sentiment, calling Mann's remarks 'anti-India in spirit.' "Shameful! Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ridicules Operation Sindoor. Once again, the opposition shows its true face -- Disrespecting our armed forces and belittling a successful military operation. If this isn't anti-India in spirit, then what is? Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was India's bold military retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists, which led to the brutal killing of 26 innocent people. Under the operation, Indian forces targeted nine terror camps and infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 militants linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After India's strike on terror infrastructure, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), as well as attempted drone attacks targeting civilian areas along the border regions. After an intense exchange of fire, a ceasefire understanding was announced on May 10 following Pakistan's request for a dialogue. (with PTI inputs)

‘Rahul, Ramesh, Revanth got SMS from their own leaders': BJP slams Congress over ‘Pakistan parasti'

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Tuesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Revanth Reddy for criticising the all-party delegation and raising questions on Operation Sindoor, saying that they have received an "SMS" from their own leaders to stop "Pakistan-Parasti." From his "SMS" remarks, Poonawalla referred to Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari and Salman Khurshid, who are part of an all-party delegation, visiting multiple key partner countries to put up India's firm stance against terrorism. The BJP leader advised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Revanth Reddy to prioritise the nation's welfare over party and family welfare. "Today RRR - Revanth, Rahul and Ramesh (Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh) got SMS - message from Salman Khurshid, Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor - that stop 'Pakistan Parasti' and don't keep the party and family's welfare over nation's welfare... Triple R are criticising the delegation and Operation Sindoor and insulting the army and Parliamentarians. Salman Khurshid showed the mirror to Rahul Gandhi, saying that no mediation was done from America..." Poonawala told ANI. These remarks came after Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed disappointment over political infighting while the delegation works on a national mission. In a social media post on X, Khurshid wrote, 'When on mission against terrorism, to carry India's message to the world, it's distressing that people at home are calculating political allegiances. Is it so difficult to be patriotic?' On May 29, Jairam Ramesh took a jibe at the Central government for sending out parliamentarians across the world while the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack are "roaming around." "It has been a month since the Pahalgam attack on April 22. Today, those terrorists are roaming around. They had a role in the December 2023 Poonch terror attack; the Ganderbal attack in October 2024; and in the same month, another attack took place--they had their role in that too. This means that the Pahalgam terrorists are responsible for four attacks in 18 months, and they are roaming around. Our MPs are roaming around, and our terrorists are roaming around too," Ramesh told ANI. Seven groups of MPs have been sent to various countries to present India's stance against terrorism and expose Pakistan's links to it. The delegation of MPs is meeting various political leaders, think tanks and the Indian diaspora in various countries. Earlier, Congress' Udit Raj criticised Shashi Tharoor over his statement in Panama as part of the multi-party delegation and called him a "spokesperson for the publicity stunts of the BJP". Similar criticism had come from Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera also.

For govt, Operation Sindoor was not about retribution but drawing limits of tolerance: CDS Anil Chauhan

The government's objective behind Operation Sindoor was not retribution but to draw the limits of tolerance with Pakistan, said Chief of the Defence Staff Anil Chauhan on Tuesday. Delivering a talk titled 'Future Wars and Warfare' at the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Chauhan said: 'Let me talk about reason… Operation Sindoor, as per the government is concerned, is not about retribution. I think it was about drawing these limits of tolerance. Thus, and not far. This state-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan had to stop, and Pakistan should not be able to hold India hostage to terror activities.' Another point made by the operation was that India was not going to live under the shadow of terror or nuclear blackmail, he said. Immediately before this, Chauhan said: 'The emotion that was being evoked among the people of India was revenge and retribution… and to get the perpetrators to justice. That, I think, was playing in everyone's mind; that is the kind of emotion and public sentiment that was happening. And at the end of it, there was probably some sort of satisfaction, (and also) anxiety. Anxiety during the operation…' #WATCH | Pune: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan says, 'Operation Sindoor is not over as yet. It continues. It's a temporary cessation of hostilities. There is a need to keep our guard up…' He also says, 'From our side, we didn't want to get into a long-drawn… — ANI (@ANI) June 3, 2025 He also talked about the risks involved during military operations. 'You can't be 100 per cent prepared for every kind of contingency, and you can't have 100 per cent of the information about that. So you are always groping around in the dark when you are carrying out military operations. In every military operation, there is an element of risk involved. The only thing is that it should be a calculated kind of risk.' Chauhan reiterated that Operation Sindoor was not over and that there was only a temporary cessation of operations. He added that post-Balakot, 'we thought we should be able to strike deep inside, so we have built those kinds of capabilities. None of the capabilities we employed had been tested on the battlefield. Therefore, risk was involved… In a war, even if there are setbacks, we have to adapt, understand what went wrong and go out again.' He added that as an organisation, one must have an offensive spirit. 'That's why I said in a couple of my interviews that losses are not important, the outcome is,' he said.
