This 14-team CFP proposal from SEC & Big Ten could alter college football FOREVER
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI's Pat Forde look ahead to this week's meeting between the SEC & Big Ten conferences which may change college football as we know it. After only one season of the 12-team College Football Playoff, the SEC & Big Ten conferences have already determined it's time for a change.
The conferences are likely to propose a 14 or even 16-team playoff next week that would grant four automatic qualifiers each to the SEC and Big Ten; two each to the ACC and Big 12; and one to the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. Dan, Ross & Pat take a deep dive into all the ways this proposal could alter the college football landscape including the devaluation of conference championship games, non-conference games becoming all but irrelevant, and scheduling disparities that would alienate many conferences.

Rocket Classic field 2025: Who is playing in PGA Tour's Detroit stop
Cam Davis is the undisputed king of the Rocket Classic. The Australian is the only person to ever win the tournament twice. It's also the only place he's ever won on the PGA Tour. Davis will look for a third title and his second in a row at the 2025 Rocket Classic, when the PGA Tour returns to Detroit Golf Club for the seventh time June 26-29. Advertisement Though the tournament has only existed since 2019, it has already featured two playoffs. In 2021, Davis defeated Tony Merritt and Joaquín Niemann to claim his first title. In 2023, Rickie Fowler birdied the first hole of the playoff to hold off Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin. All prior champions of the tournament, with the exception of Bryson DeChambeau, who joined LIV Golf, have announced their participation in the tournament. The PGA Tour has been announcing new entrants as we get closer to tournament time. Among the commitments is Ryan Brehm, from Mount Pleasant, who helped Michigan State win three Big Ten championships from 2004-08. McCullough is the career leader in scoring average for the Spartans with a mark of 71.59. Fans can purchase tickets at Grounds tickets start at $65 per day. His SP+ rankings use returning production, recent recruiting and recent history to project what could happen next season. The Tigers haven't won their opening game in each of the last five seasons, so a hot start would go a long way to set the right tone this year. It was the first championship for the 46-year-old Day and the ninth in program history. Advertisement While the Buckeyes dominated the college football scene during the playoff, their rivals took the opportunity to take a subtle dig at the national champs on X. In a new video promoting EA Sports College Football 26 posted to the Wolverines' X account on Thursday, a video game version of Underwood can be seen scrambling around the pocket before spinning past a Buckeyes defender and getting open to sling the ball down the field. While College Football 26 will be enjoyed by fans around the world, the next time the Buckeyes and Wolverines face off outside of a video game will be Nov. 29 at Michigan Stadium. Despite the joy of watching their team win the national title, Ohio State fans are desperate to see their team defeat rival Michigan for the first time since 2019.
