CONI selectes AIM Group for travel, events management
The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has chosen AIM Group International to provide travel agency services and integrated management of transfers and events, following a public tender. The four-year contract, with the possibility of a 12-month extension, begins in March 2025.
The contract includes support for major international sporting events as well as national events promoted by CONI and its regional branches. AIM Group International will coordinate the travel of athletes and their respective staff from different sports federations, ensuring an efficient and structured service.
"We are very happy to start this new adventure with AIM Group," said CONI President Giovanni Malagò. "We are facing a four-year period full of prestigious sporting events, both in Italy and abroad, and I am sure that the added value of this company will be very useful for us to win new challenges, thanks to its recognised expertise, which will further boost the development of our activities."
"We are delighted to support CONI in the management of transfers, offering an innovative and personalised service to optimise processes and costs," said Gianluca Scavo, CEO of AIM Group International. "This collaboration represents a further strategic step for our Group, consolidating our expertise in the sports sector and reinforcing our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for major international events."
The service plan aims to provide users with an intuitive and highly efficient experience, adopting the best market standards and cutting-edge digital tools, in line with CONI's travel policy.
Among the most important events to be managed in 2025 are the CONI Trophies (involving thousands of schoolchildren), the IWGA World Games in Chengdu (China, 7-17 August) and the European Youth Olympic Festival (Macedonia, 20-26 July). In 2026, the Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina (6-22 February) and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto (21 August - 3 September) are on the agenda.
"This contract reinforces our commitment to sport, following the prestigious experience of the 2023 Giro d'Italia and the ongoing support of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games Foundation in the accommodation sector," said Armando Mastrapasqua, General Manager of AIM Group's Events and Sports Division. "The great Olympic event is approaching and AIM Group is ready to play its part".

Bahrain Basketball Establishes Legacy, Muharraq Takes Top Prize
TDT | Manama When it came down to the wire, Muharraq showed why they're a force to be reckoned with. The five-game thriller against Al Ahli didn't feature flashy stat lines or overwhelming dominance, but instead, showed patience, resilience, and championship poise. Winning 3–2, Muharraq proved steady under pressure, delivering when it mattered most. The fifth and decisive game was played in front of a packed Khalifa Sports City Hall on Saturday night, with thousands of fans turning the arena into a cauldron of noise. The occasion, from the play on court to the presentation ceremony, was as much a celebration of the game as it was of the winners. Final Fitting of the Rivalry There were no blowouts, no easy quarters. Just two of Bahrain's top sides going at it with poise and pride. The series, tied 2–2 going into Saturday, had already proven its worth — momentum swings, tight finishes, and standout moments across all four previous games. Muharraq leaned on their defensive structure and bench depth, weathering Al Ahli's perimeter shooting and transition offense. The final game saw both teams lock in early, but it was Muharraq's ability to stay composed in the clutch, especially in the final quarter, that tilted the outcome. From Ceremony to Legacy The evening's climax came with the trophy presentation, where His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, awarded Muharraq players with gold medals, while Al Ahli received their silvers. In his remarks, Shaikh Isa praised both teams for delivering a high-calibre series that showed the growth of Bahraini basketball. 'Such finals highlight the level our basketball has reached, in play and in passion,' said Shaikh Isa. 'The energy in the stands and the competitiveness on the court are a sign that the sport here is thriving.' Also in attendance were Alaa Modara, President of the Bahrain Basketball Association, and Ammar Al Kutbi, Acting CEO of Zain Bahrain, whose sponsorship continues to elevate the league's profile. More Than a Game This title win adds another chapter to Muharraq's rich history, but the broader win is for the game itself. The five-match saga reaffirmed the league's credibility as a platform for high-level, locally nurtured basketball. The turnout, the noise, the tension all confirmed one thing: Bahrain's basketball culture is no longer just emerging, it's established. With the national league growing in reach and the Olympic Committee's ongoing support, Bahraini basketball looks set to continue its upward trajectory. The season may be over, but the message is clear — this is a league worth watching.

Serie A Fixtures Rescheduled Following Pope Francis' Funeral
Serie A has announced a reshuffling of this weekend's fixtures following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88. The Vatican has scheduled the funeral for Saturday in St Peter's Square, prompting the Italian league to delay three of its matches by at least a day. The decision aligns with guidance from Italy's National Olympic Committee (CONI), which urged the suspension of all sporting events during the funeral. Inter vs Roma moved to Sunday Among the postponed fixtures is Inter Milan's high-stakes clash against AS Roma, originally scheduled for Saturday. Despite speculation that the league might allow Inter an early fixture for added recovery before their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona next week, the match has been rescheduled for Sunday at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT). Revised schedule across the league Lazio's fixture against Parma, which was to be played in Rome on the day of the funeral, has been pushed to Monday evening, with kick-off now set for 20:45 (18:45 GMT). Meanwhile, Como's home game against Genoa will take place on Sunday at 12:30 (10:30 GMT). Earlier this week, Serie A had already moved Monday's matches to Wednesday following the Pope's death. A moment of national reflection Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff and a widely revered figure in global religious and humanitarian circles, will be laid to rest at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore following the funeral service at St Peter's Basilica. The Italian football federation's swift response to the announcement underlines the significance of the occasion, as the nation collectively prepares to honour the memory of a transformative leader.
