Louth athlete Lorcan Forde Dunne takes Germany race by storm as he wins for Ireland

Leading the way was U18 athlete Lorcan Forde Dunne - the current Louth Junior Athlete of the Year - as he claimed gold for Ireland in the 1500m at the German EYOF Trials on Saturday morning in Wetzlar, Germany. His win puts him in a strong position to qualify for the European Youth Olympic Festival and marks another step forward in his development. Lorcan qualified for the U18 European Championships last year but was forced to pull out with injury, but after a long period on the sidelines his remarkable run of form has now seen him gain two qualifying-standard times for the Youth Olympics. Back home, the club was well represented at the Louth Community Games held at Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda. Finn Murphy, competing in the U8 80m sprint, won his event and was crowned Louth champion and he now qualifies for the National Finals later this summer. Shmirthi Prasad and Caoimhe Carolan, also reached the podium with silver medals in their sprint events, while Hannah Black performed well in the 800m, showing good form throughout. Later that evening in Bohermeen, it was a family effort in the local 5K race. Fergus Nolan finished fourth in the junior category with a personal best time of 18:46,while his mother Angela Kearney placed third in her category, running 22:14. To cap off a good weekend, Jaheim Humphrey was a guest at the Dublin Juvenile Championships where he competed in the discus and emerged as the winner with an impressive PB of 42.25m.

Ace AC runner Lorcan Forde Dunne boosts Euro qualification prospects

Competing against a high-quality field, Forde Dunne clocked a personal best time of 3:50.15. This performance marked his second qualification time for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), which will be held in North Macedonia this July. Not everyone that meets the qualification standards will automatically be selected, but Forde Dunne's recent times put him in a strong position, so his hopes and those of his club will be high. Meanwhile, closer to home in Carlow, Aoife O'Connor competed at the U16 Leinster Combined Events competition, which involved five events - the 80m hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and 800m. O'Connor finished fourth, just missing out on a medal, but her consistent performances throughout the day were a strong indication of her ability in multiple events. Ace AC training continues on Tuesdays at 6.30pm in St Oliver's CC, Thursdays at 6pm in Lourdes Stadium and Saturdays at 10am in Oldbridge and later on at noon in Lourdes Stadium for sprinters and younger athletes. New members are always welcome.

CONI selectes AIM Group for travel, events management

The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has chosen AIM Group International to provide travel agency services and integrated management of transfers and events, following a public tender. The four-year contract, with the possibility of a 12-month extension, begins in March 2025. The contract includes support for major international sporting events as well as national events promoted by CONI and its regional branches. AIM Group International will coordinate the travel of athletes and their respective staff from different sports federations, ensuring an efficient and structured service. "We are very happy to start this new adventure with AIM Group," said CONI President Giovanni Malagò. "We are facing a four-year period full of prestigious sporting events, both in Italy and abroad, and I am sure that the added value of this company will be very useful for us to win new challenges, thanks to its recognised expertise, which will further boost the development of our activities." "We are delighted to support CONI in the management of transfers, offering an innovative and personalised service to optimise processes and costs," said Gianluca Scavo, CEO of AIM Group International. "This collaboration represents a further strategic step for our Group, consolidating our expertise in the sports sector and reinforcing our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for major international events." The service plan aims to provide users with an intuitive and highly efficient experience, adopting the best market standards and cutting-edge digital tools, in line with CONI's travel policy. Among the most important events to be managed in 2025 are the CONI Trophies (involving thousands of schoolchildren), the IWGA World Games in Chengdu (China, 7-17 August) and the European Youth Olympic Festival (Macedonia, 20-26 July). In 2026, the Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina (6-22 February) and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto (21 August - 3 September) are on the agenda. "This contract reinforces our commitment to sport, following the prestigious experience of the 2023 Giro d'Italia and the ongoing support of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games Foundation in the accommodation sector," said Armando Mastrapasqua, General Manager of AIM Group's Events and Sports Division. "The great Olympic event is approaching and AIM Group is ready to play its part".
