Ace AC runner Lorcan Forde Dunne boosts Euro qualification prospects

Competing against a high-quality field, Forde Dunne clocked a personal best time of 3:50.15.
This performance marked his second qualification time for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), which will be held in North Macedonia this July. Not everyone that meets the qualification standards will automatically be selected, but Forde Dunne's recent times put him in a strong position, so his hopes and those of his club will be high.
Meanwhile, closer to home in Carlow, Aoife O'Connor competed at the U16 Leinster Combined Events competition, which involved five events - the 80m hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and 800m.
O'Connor finished fourth, just missing out on a medal, but her consistent performances throughout the day were a strong indication of her ability in multiple events.
Ace AC training continues on Tuesdays at 6.30pm in St Oliver's CC, Thursdays at 6pm in Lourdes Stadium and Saturdays at 10am in Oldbridge and later on at noon in Lourdes Stadium for sprinters and younger athletes. New members are always welcome.

U8 runner Finn Murphy started the day with silver in the 60 metres and followed it up with another silver in the 300m after a late surge from fourth place. In the U9 age group Harry Reilly ran his first ever race in the 80m and performed well, while Millie Roche - one of the club's most improved runners - earned her first medal with bronze in the girls 300m. In the Girls U10 80m Catherine Cumming and Clara Plunkett secured medals for the club, with Catherine in second and Clara third. Catherine then impressed in the 400m with a brilliant gold in a tactical race. In the U13 80m there was bronze for Caoimhe Carolan, while Ollie Marron ran in the 600m in that age group and struck gold at the end of a well-timed race, moving from fourth at the half-way mark to first in the closing metres. The U14 Boys 800m saw Ace AC take three of the top four places, with victory for Tayo Lawrence, silver for Oisin Murphy and fourth place for Adam Cumming. Oisin had only an hour earlier claimed his first ever individual medal with bronze in the 100m. There was bronze too for the U15 Boys relay team and Caoimhe Carolan added to her earlier sprint bronze with a classy gold in the U13 600m. The U16 and U17 800m was run together and Chloe Cooney won in a steady time of 2:18 as she continued her return to full fitness ahead of the cross-country season. Meanwhile, at the Community Games Regional Finals in Athlone IT, Ace AC had two representatives lining out for Louth. U12 athlete Smirthi Prasad competed in the Girls 100m, finishing fifth in her heat, while Caoimhe Carolan moved up an age group to run in the Girls U14 200m and won both her heat and the final to secure her place at the All-Irelands in Carlow. Caoimhe will be joined by Ace AC clubmate Finn Murphy (U8) who had already qualified by winning his race at the Louth Community Games earlier in the summer.

Louth athlete Lorcan Forde Dunne shines on European stage in scorching Skopje heat

The youngster represented Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia, where he had to cope with exceptionally hot conditions of 35 degrees. Nevertheless, he produced a superb performance when finishing eighth against some of Europe's top young athletes - a proud moment for Lorcan, his family and the club. Meanwhile, back home last week in Drogheda's Lourdes Stadium at the Louth U20 and Senior Championships, Ace AC's Adam Russell took on both the 200m and 400m events in the Senior Men's programme. His efforts were rewarded with a bronze medal in the 400m, a fantastic achievement at Louth senior level. Sean Daly also competed well in the Senior Men's 100m, continuing to show strong form. Jamie O'Reilly won the U20 1500m and placed third overall in the Senior race after a well timed and disciplined run. In the Women's 800m, Ace AC athletes dominated from start to finish after U18 athlete Sholah Lawrence won both the U20 title and the overall race, followed by U17 athlete Chloe Cooney in second and Ciara O'Connor - also only U18 - impressing in third, making it a clean sweep for the club. In the Men's 800m Adrian Black took bronze in the O45 category. Adrian has now medalled in this event three years in a row, testament to his consistency and dedication. Neil Culhane and Shea O'Donnell represented Ace AC in the 1500m at the National AAI Games last week and both athletes competed strongly, with Neil securing a podium finish in third place with a time of 3:59.68. Shea followed closely behind in fifth, crossing the line in 4:01.65 after a determined race. On Sunday in Tullamore, the National Senior Inter-County Championships brought success for a youthful Louth Senior Women's team, who secured a national bronze team medal. Ace AC athletes Daniela Adebola, Sholah Lawrence, Chloe Cooney and Eimear Cooney all played their part, competing across various events and representing the club with distinction.
