1 killed, 3 hurt in West Garfield Park traffic crash, police say
The crash happened just before 4 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Lake Street.
Chicago police said a blue Ford sedan, driven by a 20-year-old man, with three passengers, including a 22-year-old man, and two other 20-year-old men, was heading eastbound when the driver disregarded a traffic light and hit a red Chevy sedan.
The 22-year-old was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The three 20-year-olds were taken to Stroger Hospital with unknown injuries in fair condition.
The Chevy driver, a 37-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 35-year-old woman, refused medical treatment at the scene.
Citations are pending.
Investigation into the crash remains ongoing by the Major Accidents Investigation Unit.

A young boy who suffered two broken hips in a hit-and-run crash while riding an e-scooter has said: "I thought I was going to die." Bradley Hooper, 11, was riding his cousin's e-scooter when he was hit by a black Vauxhall coming from Sullivan Road into Montague Avenue, Sholing. His mum Hollie Hooper, 30, was told by a witness he went "down like a ragdoll' in the incident on Wednesday just after 7.20pm. Speaking while still in hospital, Bradley said the people in the car 'drove off and left me'. He said: 'I thought I was going to die and thought: 'I love my family, and my mum is my angel'. 'I have scary dreams of them coming to get me and running me over again." Bradley added: 'Thank you to everyone who cares for me and loves me.' Devastated mum-of-four Hollie said Bradley is waiting to see if he needs surgery. She said he is worried about returning home to Sholing in case the drive comes back. 'Bradley went flying off the scooter and was screaming in pain. He moved out of the road and onto the pavement where he collapsed. It happened so fast.' 'I rushed there as soon as I could when they told me and the police were on the scene straight away', she said. 'The driver nearly killed Bradley and I am disgusted and mortified.' 'It is horrific that someone could leave a child for dead – they left before realising Bradley was alive. 'I want to thank the Sholing and Thornhill community and everyone who has helped us so far.' Hampshire Constabulary confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway. A spokesperson said: 'We were called at 7.21pm on July 30 with reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian on Montague Avenue. 'The pedestrian, an 11-year-old boy, sustained fractures to his hips. 'The car involved did not remain at the scene. 'Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to report this directly to police on 101, quoting 44250342256. 26 dogs removed from Chicago Lawn home amid animal cruelty investigation
More than two dozen dogs were removed from a home on Friday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, after police responded to a report of animal cruelty. Police said officers were called to a home in the 3300 block of West 65th Place around 4:30 p.m. for a report of animal cruelty, and found multiple dogs in the back yard and garage. At least one of the dogs was injured. Chicago Animal Care and Control officials confirmed 26 dogs were removed from a home. Officials said the situation would place an additional strain on the city's animal shelter, which is already near capacity. In July, the city's animal shelter took in an average of more than 50 cats and dogs per day. "While animals involved in this case will not be immediately available, we have hundreds of other pets currently waiting for loving homes. Adoption fees are waived for the entire month of August, and we encourage the public to visit the shelter. For those unable to adopt, fostering is also a vital way to help, and we work with multiple rescue partners who offer foster programs," a Chicago Animal Care and Control spokesperson said. "We appreciate the public's continued support and compassion for the animals in our care." Area 1 detectives were conducting an investigation into the animal cruelty allegations.

Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson arrested for incident at Washington airport involving boyfriend
Reigning world champion 100-meter sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson was charged Sunday with fourth degree domestic violence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press. On Thursday, she ran in the opening round the women's 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion. 'USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,' USA Track and Field said in a statement. Richardson's agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment. The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between the 25-year-old Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman. The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall. The report later said that Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, which the TSA indicated may have been headphones. In the police report, the officer said: 'I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim.' Richardson won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and finished with the silver at the Paris Games last summer.
