Indian boxers add 4 more gold medals, finish 2nd in Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships
Indian boxers wrapped up their campaign at the inaugural Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships in style, adding four gold medals on the final day to finish second overall.
India's tally included 15 gold, 6 silver, and 22 bronze medals, placing them behind table-toppers Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan finished third.
The final day of the tournament saw the Indian U-17 contingent bag four more gold medals — all from the girls' division.
Khushi Chand (46kg) edged past Mongolia's Altanzul Altangadas in a hard-fought 3:2 win, while Ahaana Sharma (50 kg) and Jannat (54kg) delivered dominant 5:0 victories over opponents from Uzbekistan.
The final gold came through Anshika (80+kg), who ended her bout against Jordan's Jana Alalawneh with a first-round RSC to seal India's 15th title of the championships.
"A proud and satisfying performance by our young boxers at the continental stage! These young boxers are the future of Indian boxing. With this foundation, I have no doubt we'll see many of them on the Olympic stage in the years to come," Indian Boxing's Interim Committee Chairman Ajay Singh said.
In the boys' U-17 section, Devansh (80kg) settled for silver after a 0:5 loss to Kazakhstan's Mukhamedali Rustembek. The Indian U-17 boy's team concluded the tournament with one silver and six bronze medals.
Simranjeet Kaur (60kg) and Harsika (63kg) added two more silvers to the tally, as the Indian U-17 girls finished with four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.

Satwik-Chirag bow out of Indonesia Open
Jakarta: India's top men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament after losing to Malaysia's Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun in the quarterfinals here on Friday. The former world No. 1 Indian duo, who won the title in 2023, went down 19-21, 16-21 in a 43-minute contest against the flat-hitting Malaysian pair, who notched up their first win over the Indians in five meetings. Satwik-Chirag's loss ended the Indian challenge in the competition. The Indians looked rusty as they struggled with their serve and return against Man and Wee, who won the Malaysia Masters last month and Indonesia Masters in January. India eyeing maximum points from Pro League to secure direct WC berth
Amstelveen: The Indian men's hockey team will look to produce its best and earn maximum points from the European leg of the FIH Pro League in a bid to secure a direct qualification to next year's World Cup. The next World Cup will be jointly hosted by Belgium and Netherlands. The Harmanpreet Singh-led side is currently placed third in the FIH Pro League standings with 15 points from eight matches, behind Belgium (16) and England (16). Good results in the upcoming eight matches of the European leg can propel India to the top, which means a direct berth in the World Cup. India played the home leg of the ongoing Pro League in Bhubaneswar earlier this year, where they raked up 15 points with five wins in eight games. In the European leg, first up for India is hosts Netherlands here on Saturday followed by the return leg match on June 9. The Indians will next play Argentina here on June 11 and 12, followed by matches against Australia (June 14, 15) and Belgium (June 21, 22). India will be led by talismanic dragflicker Harmanpreet, while midfield mainstay Hardik Singh will be his deputy. The Indians will take on Belgium at their home turf in Antwerp. Keeping the magnitude of the matches in mind, India have fielded an experienced 24-member squad for the leg. The Indian goal will be manned by Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera, while the defence will be handled by the likes of Amit Rohidas, Harmanpreet, Jugraj Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay and Nilam Sanjeep Xess among others. The midfield will be led by former skipper Manpreet Singh with current vice-captain Hardik, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Nilakanta Sharma, Shamsher Singh, Raj Kumar Pal and Rajinder Singh also doing duty in the middle. Chief coach Craig Fulton has opted for experience instead of trying out youngsters.
