This has been a long-awaited moment for tech fans and users who have been requesting the feature for years.
The original post to X from a user wrote in April: "they should add whatsapp on iPad".
The company just responded with the single emoji, which has sparked several reactions in the comments.
One wrote: "Please do it!

"Make WhatsApp on iPad I need it for work."
Another added: "I can't believe it's not on iPad yet.
"If it can port to the Mac, I have no idea how it's not yet on the biggest selling tablet?"
WhatsApp has been available on the phone, computer, and even smart fridge.

However, despite being one of the world's most popular messaging apps, it has never had an iPad-specific app available.
A native WhatsApp app for the iPadOS has been in beta testing for nearly two years, via Apple's TestFlight programme.
WhatsApp users can now message ChatGPT directly within app
New testers have not been able to join though as the beta program is currently at capacity, and the testing period was extended.
Those who have had access report a predominantly stable and successful experience.
The new app for iPad includes an exciting "companion mode" which is expected to provide users the ability to access their WhatsApp conversations independently, even if their iPhone is not connected to the internet.
As a result, it will work on its own and retain end-to-end encryption for all calls and chats.
An interface optimised for the iPad's larger display is also expected, with a more intuitive and visually appealing experience than using the phone, computer or web version.
As no official release has been announced, an exact launch date cannot be confirmed for the iPad app.
However, the social media update is a good suggestion of a marketing response that is coming from Meta regarding the app's potential.
It also comes after WhatsApp also recently made an
The feature allows members of a group chat to seamlessly hop in and out by connecting live over audio without having to switch to a call or leave the group.

List of 60 phones WhatsApp will stop working on this month

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info WhatsApp is set to become obsolete on a range of older smartphones starting this month. The update, which kicked in from June 1, will see the app cease to function on devices over a decade old. Due to updates in WhatsApp's system requirements for operating systems, several aged smartphones will lose access to the widely-used messaging service amid security concerns. Originally slated for May, the implementation was deferred to June. iPhones that came out before or in 2014 and can't be updated to iOS version 15.1 are among those affected. For Android users, the cut-off is now OS 5.0, also from 2014. WhatsApp has been proactive, sending out notifications urging users to "update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp." These messages targeted individuals with iPhones running on any system older than iOS 15.1, reports the Liverpool Echo. Owners of iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus, as well as previous models, will find themselves unable to meet the new iOS 18 requirement, rendering WhatsApp unusable on their phones post-update. Certain Android handsets, including Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One X, and Sony Xperia Z, will also lose the ability to support Meta's messaging platform. As per 9to5Mac, Meta's FAQ page explains that the discontinuation of support for these older models stems from their lack of recent security enhancements and features necessary for WhatsApp's operation. Apple deemed the iPhone 6 "obsolete" a little over a year ago, indicating that the company will cease to provide repairs or service for the device, and third-party service providers are unable to purchase parts for these products. Earlier in April, WhatsApp revealed twelve new features users could utilise. As the world's most popular messaging app, WhatsApp has an impressive user base of over two billion. WhatsApp mentioned in a blog on their website: "To keep you in the loop, we'll be sharing regular roundups of the latest updates, tools, and settings." A newly published roundup showcases recently introduced features that may have gone unnoticed. These updates include: Chats Real-time online indicator in group conversations: To let you know when others are available for a chat, the number of people currently 'online' is displayed under the group name in real-time. Customisable notification highlights within groups: Using the 'Notify for' feature and selecting 'Highlights,' you can limit notifications to @mentions, replies, and messages from favourite contacts. Opting for 'All' will let you receive all notifications. Event updates It is now possible to create events within 1:1 conversations on WhatsApp. Furthermore, users can RSVP with a 'maybe,' invite someone to join them, specify the end date and time of longer events, and have the option to pin an event to the chat. Tappable reactions Viewing everyone's reactions at once and choosing yours with just a tap is now possible. Document Scanning on iPhone You can now scan and send documents directly from WhatsApp on your iPhone. Simply select 'Scan document' from the attachment section and follow the instructions to scan, crop, and save the document. Default App for iPhone With the most recent iOS update, you can set WhatsApp as your default messaging and calling app on your iPhone. To do this, navigate to Settings > Default Apps and choose WhatsApp. Pinch to Zoom in Video Calls iPhone users can now use the pinch to zoom feature during a video call to get a closer look at their own or another person's video. Add to Call from a Chat You can add someone to an ongoing call directly from a chat thread by tapping the call icon at the top and selecting 'Add to call'. Enjoy Smoother Video Calls Efforts have been made to reduce dropped calls and video freezing. Improved bandwidth detection swiftly upgrades your video to HD quality for a more enjoyable experience. Video Notes for Channels Channel admins can now instantly record and share short videos (60 seconds or less) with followers, similar to chats. Voice Message Transcripts on Channels You can now receive a written summary of voice message updates from channels when you're on the move and unable to listen to them. QR Codes As a channel admin, you can now share a unique QR code that links directly to your channel, making it easier to share with others and expand your audience.
