Ajax hire Liverpool's John Heitinga as new manager in major reshuffle move
Ajax hired John Heitinga as head coach on Saturday to replace Francesco Farioli nearly two weeks after the Italian resigned following the team's late-season collapse.
Heitinga, who had a spell as Ajax's interim manager in 2023, spent the past season as an assistant coach to Arne Slot at Liverpool, which won the Premier League title.
The 41-year-old former Ajax center-back came through the Dutch club's youth program and made more than 150 appearances for the team. He also played 4 1/2 seasons at Everton.
The former Dutch international takes over a team that finished second to PSV Eindhoven after squandering a nine-point lead in the Eredivisie title race.
I am incredibly excited to start, said Heitinga, who was an assistant at West Ham two seasons ago. The last years in England have done me a lot of good. I've been able to develop further alongside David Moyes and Arne Slot, while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at two major clubs.

Tennis-Tiafoe says lack of serious sanction for Musetti ball abuse 'comical'
PARIS, - Beaten American Frances Tiafoe said it was comical that there was no serious punishment for Lorenzo Musetti and tennis rules lacked consistency after the Italian kicked a ball that struck a French Open line official in his quarter-final victory. The incident occurred in the second set of Tuesday's clash when Musetti was given balls to serve. He kicked one with his left leg and inadvertently hit a line judge, who barely flinched even though she was hit on her upper body. Musetti apologised and was immediately given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct by the chair umpire, but not defaulted, and the incident drew comparisons to another involving Novak Djokovic at the 2020 U.S. Open. FDI tunes into media: Q4 funding doubles with big bets on news, OTT, and football flair
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the information and broadcasting (I&B) sector, including print media, nearly doubled in the fourth quarter of FY25, though it slipped 14% for the full financial year, latest data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade ( DPIIT ) showed. The I&B sector attracted FDI worth ₹1,221 crore in Q4, compared to ₹621 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. For the full year, FDI fell to ₹6,007 crore in FY25 from ₹7,012 crore a year earlier. Inshorts India Advertising and Services received a fund infusion of ₹920 crore from its parent entity Inshorts, under the Reserve Bank of India's automatic route in Q4. The company, which operates online news aggregator InShorts, reported a net loss of ₹228 crore on an operating income of ₹181 crore in FY24. TV production company Balaji Telefilms received over ₹40 crore in FDI from investors including Gothic Corporation, The Duke Endowment, Gothic HSP Corporation, and the Employees Retirement Plan of Duke University, under the automatic route. In December 2024, Balaji Telefilms raised ₹131 crore through a preferential issue of equity shares to eight selected investors, including its promoter Ekta Kapoor, as well as Gothic Corporation, The Duke Endowment, Gothic HSP Corporation, and the Employees Retirement Plan of Duke University. Stage Technologies , which owns the STAGE OTT platform, raised ₹5.5 crore in FDI from NB Ventures and Manoj Sadhuram Shivnani, also via the automatic route.
