English amateur Woad, 21, romps to Women's Irish Open win
English amateur Lottie Woad carded a four-under final-round 69 to claim her first Ladies European Tour title in dominant fashion with a six-shot victory at the Women's Irish Open.Woad, the world number one amateur, hit the front in windy conditions on Friday, extended her lead to seven strokes in Saturday's third round and made six birdies and two bogeys on Sunday to cruise home at Carton House. The 21-year-old - who broke 70 in all four rounds - becomes the first non-professional to win on the Ladies European Tour since Czech player Jana Melichova at the 2022 Czech Ladies Open.Woad, who won the 2024 Augusta National Women's Amateur title and finished tied 10th in last year's Women's Open, carded just three bogeys all week in a hugely impressive performance in County Kildare.Sweden's four-time Solheim Cup player Madelene Sagstrom (68) finished second with England's world number 19 Charley Hull (69) in fourth.
Because Load is an amateur, she will not receive any prize money, with the 67,500 euro (£58,000) winner's cheque going to Sagstrom. Anna Foster (72) was the leading Irish player in a share of 12th on eight under, while her fellow countrywoman Canice Screene carded a bogey-free seven-under 66 - the joint-lowest round of the day - to finish inside the top 40. Having established a comfortable 54-hole cushion, Woad picked up two birdies in her first four holes on Sunday before dropping a shot at the par-four fifth. Surrey's Woad regained that shot with a birdie three at the eighth and picked up another at the 13th. The Florida State University player dropped a shot at the par-five 15th, but bounced back with birdies on her next two holes, a four at the par-five 17th coming after she nearly holed her approach. While Woad nearly produced a grandstand finish by holing a long birdie putt at the last, a par secured a winning score of 271. England's Hannah Screen hit a 67 to share fifth place, but home favourite Leona Maguire closed with a disappointing 75 to finish in a tie for 48th.

Glamorous golf star Charley Hull shows off brutal injury after freak accident in parking lot
Charley Hull has showed off the result of the freak ankle injury that forced her to pull out of an event earlier this month. The English golfer withdrew from the PIF London Championship after tripping over a curb in the parking lot, as she said she heard her ankle pop and 'nearly fainted' in the immediate aftermath. And after being sidelined by the injury, Hull has shared pictures to social media of herself in a walking boot. On Monday, the 29-year-old posted a picture to her Instagram story wearing the 'moon boot' in a weight room. She had previously posted another photo of the walking boot as she held a baby and posed for the camera. 'Life lately = family, friends, puppy cuddles and a moon boot,' she captioned that Instagram carousel post. After missing the PIF London Championship, Hull said she was 'devastated' not to be competing. She explained that she had a 'skip in her step' as she tried to make her way to practice before the freak injury occurred. 'The security guard was watching me and I heard my ankle pop. I thought I broke it. Someone picked me up and put me in the car,' she told reporters. 'I went down so quickly, I nearly fainted. I was not sure if I was overreacting. I started moving my ankle and it's nowhere near as bad as I thought. 'I don't do it on purpose, I'm naturally clumsy,' she continued. 'My sister is the clumsiest person I know, and I used to make fun of her for it. 'I fell over in the middle of the road about two years ago. It runs in my dad's genes.' The injury came after another unfortunate setback for Hull, who was forced to withdraw from the Evian Championship in July after collapsing twice on the course. She had been battling a virus and was ultimately unable to continue as she was stretchered off during the first round of the tournament. Hull followed up that disappointment by finishing tied for second in the AIG Women's Open. Hull also recently mourned the loss of her German Shepherd, Esmee. The golfer had previously lost her German Shepherd, Bella, in 2023. 'Rest in peace, my beautiful baby girl Esmee. You was the best, so sad,' Hull wrote as she shared a picture of the dogs on social media. 'Now you're back reunited with Bella, just like this picture. Have fun up there in doggy heaven.'

Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton nab Team Europe Ryder Cup spots
August 18 - Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and England's Tyrrell Hatton clinched spots on Team Europe's Ryder Cup squad with their weekend performances. MacIntyre jumped from fourth to second on the European Ryder Cup points list -- trailing only Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy -- after claiming second place at the PGA Tour's BMW Championship. Hatton maintained his fifth-place position after sharing 32nd at LIV's event in Indianapolis. McIlroy, MacIntyre, Hatton, England's Tommy Fleetwood and England's Justin Rose are assured of playing for Team Europe captain Luke Donald when the squad defends its Ryder Cup title Sept. 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. Donald's squad has one more automatic spot available, which is down to either Ireland's Shane Lowry or Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard. Hojgaard plays this week at the British Masters in his final chance to earn Ryder Cup points. If he ties for 29th or better, he will move past Lowry for the final automatic qualification spot. Lowry does not have any points opportunities remaining. Team USA already has all six of its automatic qualifiers lined up. Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele already owned spots before last weekend's play. Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau clinched their places on Sunday. Donald and Team USA captain Keegan Bradley each are expected to announce an additional six captain's picks next week. --Field Level Media
