Rangers vs. Mariners prediction: MLB picks, best bets for Saturday

New York Post2 days ago
You know, if everyone did what they were supposed to do, we would be riding in the black.
For instance, former two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom is supposed to outpitch Luis Castillo, and the Rangers are supposed to outscore the Mariners and win Saturday.
Not a very deGrom-like performance for Big Jake in his last start.
He allowed five runs over 5 ¹/₃ innings to the low-flying Halos.
Before that, deGrom had given up just three runs in his previous 12 innings.
Seattle's Castillo dominated the Athletics (one run over seven innings), but the Brewers blasted 10 hits and beat Luis in his previous outing.
We will play $50 on deGrom and the Rangers.

Not much interest in Mitchell Parker or Stitches at the trade deadline.
Parker made general managers around the league look good after giving up eight runs over four futile frames.

The Brewers zapped the Nats 16-9. Oh, the humanity! Down -592 hindenburgs.

Incredible But True Rangers Story: A New Yorker Starts A Blueshirt Trend

Nicky Fotiu was not your normal New Yorker since normal New Yorkers had never before earned a spot on the Blueshirts roster. But Fotiu was different. A native of Staten Island, he was determined to become the first native New Yorker to play for the team he rooted for since he was a kid. Nick cut his puck teeth after travelling all the way from Staten Island to the Skateland Rink in New Hyde Park. Slowly but relentlessly he made it to the World Hockey Association's New England Whalers in 1974 and, incredibly to the Rangers in the fall of 1976. Fotiu's first grand play honoring his NHL promotion took place on September 23, 1976 at The Garden. Nicky now was a Ranger and getting ready to start his first preseason game. The date was September 23, 1976 and the warmups had begun. Suddenly, Fotiu picked up a puck, looked skyward to a fan in the Blue Seats atop the arena. Those were the very Blue Seats that Nicky had occupied as a much younger Rangers fan. The Rangers Glass Bangers Standing near the Zamboni entrance for many years, The Maven has become fascinated with a relatively new, rooting cult which I have named "The Rangers Glass Bangers." Fotiu's gesture seemed nice enough and very little was made of it – except for Nicky. From that point on, the Staten Islander who wanted to be a Ranger continued his puck-tossing tradition until his Rangers' career ended! (Postscript: In that game against Boston, Nicky scored the game-winner in a 7-5 New York win. After the game, he told the media horde: "I'd like to have been in the stands watching me!")

Mariners' Cal Raleigh reveals most ‘surprising' thing about Home Run Derby win

The post Mariners' Cal Raleigh reveals most 'surprising' thing about Home Run Derby win appeared first on ClutchPoints. Ken Griffey Jr. is no longer the only Seattle Mariners player to ever win the MLB Home Run Derby. It is a two-man club now, as he is joined by catcher Cal Raleigh, who won the event on Monday night at Truist Park in Atlanta. Raleigh further proved he's the king of the long ball thus far in the 2025 MLB season, as he added the Derby title to his achievements this year, including, of course, the fact that he is the current home run leader in the big leagues. That seemingly added to the surprise of Raleigh about his win. 'Usually, the guy that's leading the league in homers doesn't win the whole thing,' Raleigh said after beating Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero in the championship round of the Home Run Derby (h/t Jesse Rogers of ESPN). 'That's as surprising to me as anybody else.' Raleigh nearly did not make it past the first round of the tournament, where he hit from both sides of the plate. His 17 home runs in that round were tied with Athletics star Brent Rooker, but a tie-breaker gave the Mariners star the edge. Matched up against Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the semifinals round, Raleigh blasted 19 home runs against Cruz's 13 to advance to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Caminero defeated Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton, 8-7, to secure a seat in the championship. When it was all said and done, Raleigh had hit a total of 54 home runs to his name, 10 more than anyone from the rest of the field. Caminero had 44 while Cruz racked up 34. New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. finished with the fewest blasts, with only three home runs during the first round. The 28-year-old Raleigh has been a terror at the plate this season for opposing pitchers, as he entered the MLB All-Star break with the most home runs in the big leagues. He concluded the first half of the season with 38 dingers, while hitting .259/.376/.634. Those 38 home runs are already a career-high for Raleigh, who had not recorded more than 34 homers in a season before 2025. MLB rumors: Rangers linked to Cardinals, Pirates relievers amid luxury tax questions

The post MLB rumors: Rangers linked to Cardinals, Pirates relievers amid luxury tax questions appeared first on ClutchPoints. Just two days remain until the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline. There are many teams in the hunt for outfielders and relievers, and these three teams mentioned in a recent article from The Athletic could become trade partners involving those two positions. The Texas Rangers are linked to closers from the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Adolis Garcia's name has been rumored. After a slow start to the campaign, the Rangers have flipped the script. Texas has won eight of their last 10 games and are now 56-51, four games out of first place in the AL West. They have established themselves as a playoff contender and could be buyers at the deadline. There is a good chance they go out and acquire relievers to boost the bullpen. According to Ken Rosenthal, trading Garcia is on the table. 'Winners of six straight games and nine of 10 entering Monday night, the Rangers were still day to day in determining how aggressively they should buy. If ownership gives the front office the flexibility to exceed the threshold, the Rangers might as well go significantly past the number. It would make little sense to end the season, say, $1 million over. A trade of right fielder Adolis García, who will be owed approximately $3 million at the deadline, would create additional room under the threshold. The Rangers also could move a pitcher such as right-hander Jon Gray or one of their catchers, Jonah Heim or Kyle Higashioka. But such trades would be self-defeating for a team trying to reach the postseason.' 'The Rangers want to add another right-handed hitter as well as a high-leverage reliever, such as the St. Louis Cardinals' Ryan Helsley or Pittsburgh Pirates' David Bednar. Trading García would subtract a right-handed bat, and like many of the Rangers' hitters, he is on the upswing. Through May 28, Garcia was batting .208 with a .626 OPS. Since then, he has been better, hitting .256 with a .728 OPS. He also is an excellent defender, and the Rangers consider him an important part of their club.' Ryan Helsley's name has surfaced in trade rumors for weeks. St. Louis is also a playoff contender and should not be in a position to trade an elite player; however, Helsley is a free agent at the end of the season and it seems his time as a Cardinal may be running out. David Bednar has appeared in 42 games and is 18th in saves with 17 on the season. He owns a 1.11 WHIP and 2.37 ERA; the Pirates would be dumb not to trade him and get something in return with his current value and the league-wide need for closers.
