Club World Cup 2025 prize money round-by-round breakdown

Club World Cup 2025 prize money round-by-round breakdown

Metro21 hours ago

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is only a few days away, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City battling to win in the USA.
The tournament kicks-off in the USA on Sunday as Al Ahly take on Lionel Messi's Inter Miami but it would be fair to say that players, clubs and fans aren't entirely sold on the revamped and expanded competition.
In order to ensure it succeeds, FIFA have broken the bank – literally – with the total prize pot they are offering standing at a staggering $1billion (that's roughly £739million).
But how exactly will this be split between all 32 teams competing? We break down the Club World Cup prize money and how it compares to other competitions like the Champions League:

According to FIFA, of the $1bn prize pot, $475m (£350m) will be distributed to clubs depending on how they perform at the tournament.
The eventual champions' reward will depend on their performance in the group stage but the maximum they can win is a cool £86.4m.
But they stand to gain more than that as the majority of the prize pot has already been handed out as a participation fee, the amount of which depends on what confederation they come from.
Oceania's sole representative Auckland City is getting £2.6m, while clubs from Africa, Asia and North American will get £7m each.
The South American sides get £11.2m but the figure varies for European teams depending on 'sporting and commercial criteria', with the lowest ranked getting £9.4m and the highest £28.2m.
Group stage win: £1.4million
Group stage draw: £739,000
Round of 16: £5.5million
Quarter-final: £9.6million
Semi-final: £15.5million
Final: £22.1million
Winners: £29.5million
If we assume that Chelsea and Manchester City fall into the latter category, they could leave the USA with over £114million – roughly the equivalent to one Florian Wirtz.
Additionally, the winning club will get to wear the special, gold Club World Cup badge on their shirts until the next edition of the competition in 2029 and of course they'll lift the brand new trophy.
The total prize pot for the Club World Cup may seem big but it's only about a third of the £2bn on offer in the UEFA Champions League.
That said, the winner of the UCL stands to receive less than the CWC victors, with the former earning up to £102.3m, depending on results. More Trending
The 2024/25 Champions League winners PSG would have received upwards of £95m after struggling to get through the league phase.
In any case, the figures dwarf how much Liverpool received in prize money for winning the Premier League last season (£56.4m) and Crystal Palace's reward for lifting their first FA Cup in May (£3.91m).
Additionally, Argentina received £32m for winning the 2022 World Cup.

Man City and Argentina legend Sergio Aguero mocks Cristiano Ronaldo's Nations League triumph while taunting Speed as he sticks up for Lionel Messi at Club World Cup

Former Manchester City star Sergio Aguero mocked Cristiano Ronaldo for not appearing at the Club World Cup. Despite the tournament getting underway in the United States on Saturday with 32 teams taking part, Ronaldo will not feature. Al-Nassr failed to earn a spot in the competition after falling short in the four-year cycle to determine which teams would take part. It briefly appeared that the 40-year-old could still play a part however, with even FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggesting earlier this month that Ronaldo could join a participating team. However, Ronaldo ultimately opted to remain at Al-Nassr, the club he has captained since his high-profile departure from Manchester United. One person Ronaldo's absence at the competition clearly has not been lost on is former Argentina striker Aguero, who made a number of pointed remarks in a recent stream. Aguero!!! Absolute savage mode 😂 Speed got cooked! 🔥🤣 — Leo Messi 🔟 Fan Club (@WeAreMessi) June 15, 2025 Aguero appeared in IShowSpeed's stream this weekend, as the American asked him to set up a meeting between him and Lionel Messi. 'You're a very big fan of Cristiano, no?' Aguero asked. After Speed responded that he still wanted to meet Messi, Aguero continued: 'I respect it, it's OK. He's a good player. I prefer Messi, of course.' He then sarcastically asked why Ronaldo wasn't featuring at the Club World Cup. 'Ronaldo is playing here now at the Club World Cup or no?' he quipped. 'Maybe he'll have to watch on TV.' After Speed insisted that Ronaldo would lead his country to victory at next summer's World Cup, Aguero made a reference to Portugal's Nations League triumph. '[Ronaldo] just won the [Euros] no? Ah the Nations League, congratulations.'

Bayern Munich star makes feelings clear on Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz

Joshua Kimmich pulled no punches when asked about Bayern Munich's transfer needs this summer after Florian Wirtz chose to join Liverpool instead of Bundesliga champions Joshua Kimmich has claimed Bayern Munich are now light in attack after the club lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign Germany star Florian Wirtz. And midfielder Kimmich claimed he has been taken aback by Leroy Sane's decision to leave the Bundesliga champions for Galatasaray, while Thomas Muller's departure also hurts them in the final third. ‌ Bayern face Auckland City in their Group C opener at the controversial Club World Cup on Sunday afternoon and asked before the game about Wirtz, who is set to complete a British record switch to Anfield in the coming days, Kimmich pulled no punches. ‌ "You'll have to ask the club what their plans are," he said. "Of course, you have the feeling that we could do something – with Flo (Wirtz) not coming, with Leroy leaving, with Thomas leaving. 'I was surprised that (Sane) is going to Turkey. I didn't expect that. But it's his decision and he'll have his reasons for it.' Kimmich's comments follow sporting director Max Eberl admitting that the Bavarians would not have been able to match the fee paid by Liverpool for 'outstanding' Wirtz. But Eberl insisted there is a clear strategy in place this summer and the free agent arrivals of Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah are a stride in the right direction. Eberl said: "I am sure that we will have a competitive team - and that we will also have the finances under control. If I'm honest, I don't know if we could have paid what Liverpool are apparently paying now. ‌ "Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player. We could have imagined signing him. But when a door closes, another opens. The focus is on the squad we have here. We've brought along some young players, and now we've added two Germany internationals in Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah, who have come in on free transfers. That's already a big step. 'We have a clear plan on how we want to implement things. But there's still a lot to do. I'm certain we will have a very strong squad."

Sunday's briefing: England U21s continue Euros defence as PSG begin CWC campaign

Under-21s boss Carsley expects more England Under-21s boss Carsley insisted his side still had plenty to improve on, despite a winning start at the European Championship. Goals from Harvey Elliott, Jonathan Rowe and Charlie Cresswell saw Croatia defeated 3-1, with Sunday's game against Slovenia providing a chance to cement their place in the knockout rounds. 'It might seem a bit clunky at times, unstructured, but I thought the players took on board what we tried to do, lots of positives, the Czechs had good chances as well so lots to improve,' said Carsley. 'The longer I feel we can stay in the competition, the more clean our play will become.' Dembele has Ballon d'Or dreams Champions League winner Ousmane Dembele is chasing the 'holy grail' of the Ballon d'Or. The forward's performances were integral to Paris St Germain's inaugural triumph in Europe's premier club competition but having conquered that challenge, the 28-year-old is looking to emulate his idol and former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi. 'Winning a Ballon d'Or when you're a footballer is obviously the holy grail on an individual level. It's something you dream of as a child,' Dembele told France Football. 'I've had difficult years with injuries, weak performances as well. This season I think I've been consistent, so we'll see what happens. 'It would be exceptional to have my name on the list and to be one of the favourites is already a great victory, although I hope to win it one day. Bright future ahead for FC United FC United want to continue being an 'antidote' to modern football as the breakaway club celebrate their 20th anniversary. The Glazer family's controversial takeover at Manchester United was the catalyst for the club's foundation on June 14, 2005, offering an affordable, inclusive and fan-owned alternative for disenfranchised supporters. FCUM reached the National League North and built a 4,900-capacity stadium within a decade and now the goal is for the Northern Premier League Premier Division side to kick on again. 'I think the future's bright. I think we're about to enter into our next grand phase,' chair Nick Boom told the PA news agency. 'We've spent a lot of time trying to kind of get the club into a position where it's financially stable and it feels like we now have got to a position where we can kind of invest.' What's on today? Champions League winners Paris St Germain take on Atletico Madrid in an early glamour tie in the Club World Cup. Bayern Munich against Auckland City offers less allure. England Under-21s could secure progress to the European Championship knockout stage with victory over Slovenia.
