Saints trade DT Khalen Saunders to the Jaguars following the teams' preseason game, AP source says
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither team immediately confirmed the swap. The teams played to a 17-all tie in the Superdome earlier in the day. The trade was expected to become official once Saunders passes a physical in Jacksonville, the person said.
Saunders started 27 games for the Saints over the last two seasons after a four-year stint in Kansas City that included two championships. He became expendable in New Orleans after the Saints switched to a 3-4 defense under coordinator Brandon Staley and signed free agent Davon Godchaux from New England.
Saunders, a third-round draft pick in 2019, has 181 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks in 68 career games. He notably intercepted a pass from former teammate Patrick Mahomes in a loss at Kansas City last season.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, have been looking for help at interior defensive line since training camp opened. Defensive tackles Arik Armstead (back) and Maason Smith (calf) have yet to play, and young backups like Tyler Lacy and Jordan Jefferson have been far from stout up front.
Jacksonville recently signed veterans Dawuane Smoot and Austin Johnson in hopes of finding a solution.

Mike Green is showing the positive signs expected from a finding a Super Bowl-winning mentor. As the page was turned from the most recent NFL playoff stretch to the new league year and the Baltimore Ravens' offseason, one name that kept being mentioned belonged to edge rusher Mike Green. It's one of those things where the 'big fish' dominates in the small pond setting. Let's be honest. Few of us pay attention to the Sun Belt Conference's game-day offerings, so the former Marshall star's best efforts weren't seen live. 'Film study' was substituted for YouTube searches. Thankfully, Baltimore's scouting staff does a much more thorough job. They spent hours weighing the positives of a skill set often displayed against what some might view as competition. When Green's character was questioned and other teams dismissed him, the Ravens determined they would be the organization to give him a chance. He seems to be settling in very well. All that most have for measurement is his small sample size. We've seen him at a few handfuls of practices and in two preseasons to date. Zach Orr's defense may have something here. Green has lived up to the hype, and he has found a mentor that every fan and media member will approve of. Mike Green may have found a big brother in a Ravens Super Bowl winner No seventh-round draft would have any issue with growing up in the NFL and duplicating the run of one Mike Green. The 170th player taken in the 1993 draft, Michael McCrary, spent his first four professional seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before signing with the Ravens ahead of the 1997 season. He teamed with franchise legends like Tony Siragusa, Peter Boulware, and Ray Lewis. He was twice named a Pro Bowler (1998, 1999). He was also named the Whizzer" White NFL Man of the Year, but joined the Ravens immortals by winning a Super Bowl as a member of the Ravens 2000 roster. McCrary placed his arm around Green recently. They were recently seen working out together following a recent Ravens training camp practice. Is this a one-off or the beginning of a solid friendship? How cool would it be if the latter scenario were true? McCrary racked up 51 sacks as a Raven during his time here. Green hopes to earn his first vs. the reigning NFL MVP when Baltimore tackles the Buffalo Bills in a primetime game. How cool might that be if he were able to pull that off? Again, the extent of McCrary and Green's relationship is unknown, but anytime you see the O.G.s working out with the youngsters, it's easy to allow a smile to creep across one's face. Hopefully, this isn't a one-off, but credit McCrary for offering some advice and Green for being willing to listen. Green is the owner of immense physical talent. He has shone brightly since his arrival, but with guidance and the humility to be coachable, there are genuinely no heights that this Raven can't soar to.
