Ombudsman Team Visits Jau Prison to Monitor Ashura Religious Practices
The visit focused on observing the conditions of inmates and ensuring they were able to practice their religious rituals during the Ashura season. This is in line with the team's responsibilities outlined in Article 12 of Decree No. (35) of 2013, and aimed to verify that inmates are treated in accordance with national legal standards.
During the visit, the team met with a group of inmates selected at random. In private conversations, the inmates expressed that they were able to freely participate in Ashura-related religious practices. The team also reviewed CCTV footage across different buildings and prayer halls, confirming that groups of inmates had been gathering both in the morning and evening to hold religious ceremonies and gatherings. These activities were conducted without violating internal prison rules or safety requirements.
The Ombudsman team also reviewed relevant documents and plans prepared by the prison administration to facilitate the rituals. The review showed clear coordination and cooperation by prison staff to ensure a smooth and respectful environment for religious observance, while maintaining security.
The General Secretariat of the Ombudsman affirmed its continued commitment to monitoring the situation in reform and rehabilitation centers—especially during major religious events such as Ramadan and Ashura. These efforts reflect the organization's role in promoting transparency, accountability, and the protection of constitutional and legal rights within the Kingdom of Bahrain.

'From our perspective, given where this individual fits, given his connection to the supreme leader and his father's previous sanctions activities, given the Iran-related authorities, it's critically important to emphasize that this is an Iran action that is meaningful and very impactful,' the official said. The EU sanctioned Shamkhani earlier in July for his role in the Russian oil trade, and his father, Ali Shamkhani, was sanctioned by the US in 2020. Tehran condemned the decision as a hostile move, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei calling it a 'blatant assault on the Iranian people and their national dignity,' adding that it reflected 'the hostility of American policymakers towards the Iranian people.' He accused Washington of seeking to 'cripple Iran's development, sow internal discord, and erode the rights and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.' 'The Iranian people, fully aware of the malicious intent of the aggressive sanctioning party …, will stand firm with all their might to safeguard their dignity and interests,' Baghaei said. He criticized the US's 'addiction' to unilateralism and said its measures repeatedly violated 'international law, human rights, and freedom of sovereign trade.' He called for international accountability and reaffirmed Iran's 'unshakeable resolve' to defend its sovereignty and continue its development goals. Sanctioned entities include Sepehr Energy Jahan Nama Pars Company, linked to Iran's Armed Forces General Staff. Among the targeted vessels are Bendigo, Carnatic, Luna Prime, Goodwin, Davina, and Spirit of Casper.

Trump Teases 'Major Statement' On Russia Coming In Days
President Donald Trump has stated that America's NATO allies will be required to pay the full cost for US-made weapons while hinting that some of those arms may eventually be transferred to Ukraine. As is well known, Trump has long pushed European NATO members to take on greater defense const-sharing burden, and in new remarks given to NBC published Friday he said 'We send weapons to NATO, and NATO is going to reimburse the full cost of those weapons.' He emphasized, 'NATO is paying for those weapons, 100%.' He went on to preview that once the weapons are purchased by NATO allies, 'then NATO is going to be giving those weapons' to Ukraine. He described that the deal was struck in June at the NATO summit in the Netherlands: 'We're sending weapons to NATO, and NATO is paying for those weapons, 100%. So what we're doing is the weapons that are going out are going to NATO, and then NATO is going to be giving those weapons [to Ukraine], and NATO is paying for those weapons,' Trump said. Another very interesting part of the interview came when he teased a major Russia-related announcement planned for Monday. Could it be new sanctions, which Ukraine's Zelensky and others have been aggressively lobbying for? 'I'm disappointed in Russia, but we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks,' Trump said. 'I think I'll have a major statement to make on Russia on Monday,' he added without elaborating. As for new weapons systems for Ukraine, a fresh Reuters report has said this could total up to $300 million in new arms. Alarmingly, the Pentagon has been running low on its own stockpiles, with Patriot missiles in particular in short supply and high demand, and slow to replace. Secretary of Defense Marco Rubio told reporters while in Malaysia this week of the Patriots, 'Well, the Spaniards have them. They're really far from Ukraine and they have one. The Germans have, others have them — I'm not singling them out, but I'm just telling you those are two that I know.' 'There are other Patriot batteries, and there are other opportunities,' he added. 'Countries that have ordered Patriot batteries that are about to receive shipments of them, it'd be great if one of them volunteered to defer that shipment and send it to Ukraine instead,' Rubio said. Rubio has been teasing a 'new' approach and potential strategy toward resolving the Russia-Ukraine war, after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov this week.

Interior Minister Praises Success of Ashura Season and Commends Community Cooperation
Interior Minister His Excellency General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa welcomed senior ministry officials including the Deputy Minister of Interior, the Chief of Public Security, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Governors, and General Directors to celebrate the successful completion of this year's Ashura season. At the start of the meeting, the Minister conveyed warm greetings from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He emphasized how proud His Majesty is of the Interior Ministry's efforts, both in security and community service, which played a vital role in ensuring the smooth and peaceful observance of Ashura. 'This recognition from His Majesty is a source of pride and a powerful reminder of the great responsibility we hold in safeguarding public safety and order,' said the Minister. He also expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing support of the government, led by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, especially in responding to community needs and ensuring all requirements were met.
