Other notable trustees of the British Museum include artist Tracey Emin, George Weston, whose family previously owned Selfridges, and TV host Claudia Winkleman.
George Osborne, chair of trustees at the British Museum, said: 'There is no one on Earth better equipped' to help the British Museum bring great design and the latest technology together to transform its galleries.
'We're incredibly fortunate to have one of the founders of the modern age join our board. Ive fuses design and technology in a way that has changed our world — and with his work at the frontier of AI, continues to do so,' added Osborne.
Ive, who recently signed a $6.5 billion deal with OpenAI to create physical products, said: 'I have adored the museum since I first visited as a child over 50 years ago. It is a remarkable and singular institution that ultimately fosters curiosity and understanding across cultures and time.
'Like most designers, I am a keen historian, and the British Museum is a masterpiece of public cultural experience. I am thrilled to be working with such a wonderful team, and look forward to supporting the museum's appropriately ambitious masterplan for transformation,' he added.

Director Sarah Friedland and Actor Kathleen Chalfant on ‘Familiar Touch,' Their Exquisite Portrait of ‘Coming of Old Age'

Writer-director Sarah Friedland remembers her grandmother, a poetry editor, as a 'badass lefty intellectual' who wielded language with precision. When she later developed dementia and became nonverbal, Friedland, then studying dance, was struck by her symphony of movements. 'She would rock and tap certain rhythms and was so physically expressive,' the filmmaker recalls—although by that point, her family had been speaking of her in the past tense. 'That gap between the person that we were describing as no longer there and the person who was very much still in front of me haunted me for many years.' Friedland has drawn upon those experiences for her tender and heartrending debut feature, Familiar Touch. The film—which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, winning best debut, best director, and best actress in the Orizzonti section—explores dementia and identity through Ruth (the regal, luminous Kathleen Chalfant), an octogenarian former cook whose life gently unravels and reconfigures when she moves into assisted living. Friedland calls it a 'coming of old age' film. 'I wanted to push back against that narrative of decline—the idea that older adults are diminishing,' she says. 'In the coming-of-age film, you see a character change, becoming a new or different version of themselves. There's this idea that our selfhood can shift and yet there's a continuity to it.' Friedland references the 2013 book Out of Time: The Pleasures and Perils of Ageing and author Lynne Segal's idea of temporal vertigo: 'As we grow older, you can access all of the selves you've been up until that moment. And as such, they kind of mingle and create this sense of vertigo.' Chalfant illustrates this in the film with exquisite subtlety, assuming by turns the disposition of a coy flirt and a take-charge kitchen taskmaster. A distinguished New York theater actor known for doing Angels in America on Broadway in 1994 and Wit off-Broadway in 1998, Chalfant was drawn to the role after her best friend, playwright Sybille Pearson, began to show signs of dementia seven years ago. 'At the time that I was given Familiar Touch to read, Sybille was in about the same place as Ruth,' Chalfant says. 'So the role was, in a way, a gift to Sybille, but even more, the character of Ruth was Sybille's gift to me. When I saw the movie for the first time, I realized how much of Sybille was on the screen.'

Jeff Bezos' Reportedly Marries Lauren Sanchez Next Week: What We Know About Venice Extravaganza

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former journalist Lauren Sánchez will reportedly get hitched next week in what is expected to be an opulent and controversial ceremony hosted in Venice, Italy, reportedly costing millions of dollars and mostly kept under wraps. Bezos and Sánchez will reportedly tie the knot this month. (Photo by Taylor Hill/FilmMagic) FilmMagic Many details reported about the wedding are speculative, though Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro confirmed the event will take place in the floating city, telling Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera the wedding 'will have economic repercussions worth millions of euros for our city.' The wedding will be a 'multiday celebration,' according to The Wall Street Journal, noting the cost of the wedding will reach into the millions. Bezos and Sánchez are reportedly getting married on a Venetian island, according to the Journal. The geography of the small city is spread out across over 110 small islands, with the historical center taking up approximately two square miles. However, a spokesperson for Brugnaro told CNN in March the wedding will take place on Bezos' $500 million superyacht known as the Koru. The Koru is a 417-foot sailing yacht, the second-largest of its kind in the world, meaning it would need to be anchored away from Venice's Grand Canal due to its size. Conversely, 'No Space for Bezos,' a local group protesting the event, has said the wedding will take place in the historic Church of the Abbey of Misericordia, according to the BBC. Some locals in Venice, which has dealt with overtourism that has strained the city's infrastructure and services for years, will protest the wedding over concerns its scale will worsen some of the issues created by excessive tourist crowds. Activists have organized a 'No Space for Bezos' campaign opposing the wedding, posting banners and stickers throughout the city. Federica Toninelli, a Venetian activist with 'No Space for Bezos,' told Reuters the wedding is also a 'symbol of the exploitation of the city by outsiders.' Protesters have threatened to block access to canals and city streets in an effort to block wedding attendees from reaching party venues in the city, according to Variety. Another protester told The Independent allowing the wedding to proceed creates the idea 'a city can be sold to the highest bidder with the most money.' Brugnaro has spoken out against the protesters and tried to reassure them the city is capable of handling the event, citing its hosting of the Venice Film Festival and G7 Summit. Brugnaro said he was 'ashamed of those who behave like this,' Variety reported. Protest organizers have criticized Brugnaro, insisting demonstrations will be peaceful. How Many People Are Attending The Wedding And Who Is On The Guest List? Venice officials have said the guest list for Bezos and Sánchez's wedding is limited to 200 people. It is not known for certain who will be attending the wedding, but TMZ reported a handful of celebrities received invites including Eva Longoria, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Jewel Kilcher, noting Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, in addition to Karlie Kloss and husband Joshua Kushner also made the list. Many people on the purported list, such as Longoria and Perry, are friends with Bezos and/or Sánchez. Guests who attended Sánchez's bachelorette party in Paris in May included Jenner, Kardashian, Perry, Longoria, entrepreneur Elsa Marie Collins, philanthropist Natasha Poonawalla and Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson. When Is The Wedding? The wedding will take place from June 24 to June 26, CNN reported, citing Brugnaro's spokesperson, though some reports have claimed a June 26 to June 29 celebration. How Much Will The Wedding Cost? Multiple reports have said the wedding will predictably cost millions of dollars. The Journal reported a luxury wedding with 200 guests such as Bezos' costs about $4 million, citing Jamie Simon, director of events at luxury planning firm Banana Split, which organized the multiday wedding between Sofia Richie Grainge and Atlantic Records CEO Elliot Grainge in 2023. The Journal reported Lanza & Baucina, a London-based group that planned George and Amal Clooney's 2014 wedding in Venice, has been hired by Bezos and Sánchez. A representative for the group told the Journal its principles and the instructions of Bezos call for the 'minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.' Forbes Valuation We estimate Bezos' net worth at $225 billion as of Friday, making him the fourth-wealthiest person in the world behind Mark Zuckerberg ($236.5 billion), Larry Ellison ($251.9 billion) and Elon Musk ($407.4 billion), Key Background Bezos and Sánchez met almost ten years ago and began making public appearances together around 2019, when the two began dating. They became engaged in 2023 aboard the Koru superyacht, with Bezos offering Sánchez a 30-carat cushion cut pink diamond set in platinum, according to Vanity Fair. The couple's upcoming wedding in Venice is not unprecedented, as the floating city also hosted the wedding of George and Amal Clooney in 2014, when the two tied the knot at the Venice Town Hall. The wedding had a generally positive perception, with locals lauding Clooney for his consideration and respect for Venice. Aaron Taylor-Johnson Explains Why 28 YEARS LATER Is 'More Horrific' Than Most Zombie Movies — GeekTyrant

It turns out the most terrifying thing about 28 Years Later isn't the flesh-eating infected, it's the emotions. In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, star Aaron Taylor-Johnson described the upcoming sequel not as a straight-up horror movie, but as something more intimate and disturbing… a family drama set against the backdrop of a collapsed world. Taylor-Johnson said: 'We played the reality of the family drama, didn't we? We just kind of leant into what our family was sort of feeling and going through in this post-apocalyptic world. 'So the story itself feels very intimate within this big landscape. So you don't really play into the sort of horror theme in a way? You're just playing the reality of the circumstances, and I think that, in itself, is more horrific.' Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, both returning from the original 28 Days Later , this third installment trades the genre tropes for something a little more grounded. Of course, there are going be jumpscares. Yes, the Infected are back. But the emotional core revolves around Jamie (Taylor-Johnson), his wife Isla (Jodie Comer), and their son Spike (Williams), as they venture from the relative safety of Holy Island into the decaying chaos of the mainland. What begins as a coming-of-age journey for Spike quickly turns into something far more dangerous. According to Williams, it's that character shift that gives the movie its emotional bite. 'We really see Spike mature throughout this film, and he has to mature to survive. We see him right at the start where, you know, he holds back a lot and he's still got that childlike curiosity. 'Then we start to see… well, he still keeps that but he pushes it back to defend his mother, who's he trying to protect.' Taylor-Johnson and Williams both avoided watching other zombie films while shooting because 28 Years Later doesn't follow the usual playbook. When asked if he looked to the genre for inspiration: Taylor-Johnson said: 'I didn't because I didn't feel like it correlated or related to this.' Williams added: 'It's just so unique and creative. I just watched 28 Days Later a lot to try and get the vibe of this one.' With Jack O'Connell and Ralph Fiennes also on board, and Boyle and Garland fully back in the creative driver's seat, 28 Years Later is shaping up to be more than just a revival, it might be the most emotionally intense chapter yet. 28 Years Later hits theaters June 20th.
