Olly Murs apologises to Glasgow fans and says he's 'hurting' as he cancels more shows

Daily Record23-05-2025

The singer took to Instagram to apologise to fans for walking off stage at Glasgow's OVO Hydro last night.
Olly Murs has apologised to fans after he walked off stage in Glasgow last night and said he's 'hurting big time'.
The singer was just six songs into his sold-out gig yesterday evening when he cancelled the remainder of the show due to vocal struggles.

On Instagram he posted: "Never expected to be writing this today. To everyone in Glasgow last night, I want to start by saying sorry. What happened last night has never happened to me before and I'm truly gutted and upset about it.

"In 15years I've never had to leave the stage after 30minutes into a show, but my voice was failing me. I was panicking and worrying on what to do which gave me no choice but to address it. The thought of upsetting people and letting you the fans down has hit me hard today.
"Speaking in front of you last night and seeing people upset was hard to see but from the bottom of my heart I'm sorry but I had to put my health first x
"To everyone in Manchester and Birmingham I'm deeply sorry but I am unfortunately going to have to cancel my shows there this weekend. I have contracted a respiratory infection and have been instructed to go on a strict 48 hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal chords.
"I've been having the best time on this tour and I'm so sorry to let my fans down, I'm hoping to be fighting fit in a few days to finish this amazing 15 year celebratory tour with a bang. "All fans will be refunded directly from their point of purchase. This will happen automatically over the next week. Sorry again for this, I love you guys and I think anyone that knows me knows how much I love being on stage and performing. I'm hurting big time."

The former X Factor star, 41, who is currently touring the UK, halted his performance to call out to the audience: "My voice has gone".
Olly finished his song Kiss Me Like You Mean It last night in the OVO Hydro before suddenly announcing he had to leave and rushed off stage, leaving fans shocked by his sudden departure.
Ticket holders, who forked out £57.55 upwards for tickets, were understandably disappointed by his cancellation and took to X to voice their complaints.
One wrote: "One minute Olly murs voice is fine and the next he sends everyone home after just 5 songs at a packed ovo hydro in Glasgow complaining of vocal issues. #ollymurs #glasgow."
Another remarked: "Olly Murs has got all the weans in tears." A third loyal fan showed their support to the singer as they said: "Olly Murs cancelled in the middle of his gig and had to leave due to issues with his voice :(. Get well soon, Olly!"

150 year old chip shop in Scottish city praised as cosy and authentic with celebrity visitors

A Glasgow chip shop opened in 1875 and taken over by the Corvi family in 1938 became famous under Luigi Corvi Friday, June 6 marks National Fish and Chip Day, a perfect occasion for Brits to savour one of the nation's most beloved dishes. With thousands of chippies across the country, a fish supper remains a Friday night treat for many. Fish and chips first emerged as a popular meal in 19th century northern England before spreading nationwide. By the 1870s, it had reached Scotland, where one historic fish and chip shop continues to delight customers after nearly 150 years. ‌ Val d'Oro, a Glasgow institution, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2025. Originally opened in 1875 on London Road at Glasgow Cross by the Beltrami family from Italy, the shop was taken over by the Corvi family in 1938. ‌ They renamed it from The Swiss Restaurant to Val d'Oro, a name it has proudly kept ever since. Under Luigi Corvi's stewardship, Val d'Oro earned fame not only for its food but for its unique charm. Known as the Singing Chip Shop Owner, Luigi entertained Celtic fans with opera songs on their way to Parkhead. His talent even led to a special invitation to sing for Queen Elizabeth during the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 2011. The shop has attracted a host of famous faces over the decades. Sir Paul McCartney stopped by in 1973 with his wife Linda, purchasing two fish suppers before his vegetarian days. Other notable visitors include Jack Mulroy, Larry Marshall, Jimmy Logan, Marti Pellow and Frankie Boyle. Earlier this year, Reform deputy chairman Richard Tice visited for a press event. ‌ Despite its age, Val d'Oro remains a firm favourite with customers, boasting a 4.4 rating on TripAdvisor and nearly 80 per cent of reviews awarding it a perfect score. Visitors have praised it as "perfecto," "cozy," "authentic," and "special." One enthusiastic reviewer said: 'This old style chippy is a Glasgow gem and if you're in the area I would highly recommend you pop in and experience the great food and immerse yourself in the local culture. ‌ "May this famous Glasgow institution continue serving the city for many years to come.' Another wrote: 'A real breath of fresh air in a world where everything is becoming so sterile. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and welcoming. Please never change!' Speaking to the BBC last year, he said: 'We've had illustrious customers, but the main one is the great Glasgow public. "We still get people coming in that were coming in 60 years ago. Some of them had their first date in the Val d'Oro and a lot of our customers were brought up with us. We knew all the families. 'But it's a world away from what it was as a living, breathing part of the community. A lot of these bonafide Glasgow customers aren't around here anymore.'
