Steelers DT Cameron Heyward doesn't want to be 'paper champions' anymore
Defensive tackle Cameron Heyward is one of the veterans on this roster who is tired of the narrative and the outcome.
'We're not trying to be paper champs,' Heyward said. 'We're trying to be champs.'
He's not he only veteran who has been vocal about the struggles this offseason. Edge defenders T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith have done the same. Meanwhile, the Steelers haven't won a playoff game since 2016. Having watched so many years of Steelers football, the way these teams have collapsed has been beyond puzzling. At times, it feels like the failing of the coaching staff, and other times, it really feels like it falls squarely on the players.
2025 has been another year of rebuilding for the Steelers and once again, Pittsburgh heads into training camp and the preseason with high hopes and at the same time there is cautious optimism because this team can break your heart.

Among those additions were offensive linemen Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman, pass rusher Dayo Odeyingbo, and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. With that being said, could Chicago be interested in making its most aggressive move yet? How about a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons? That is exactly what Matthew Schmidt of Chicago Bears on SI has suggested. "Chances are, Dallas would want to trade Parsons out of the NFC if it did decide to move him, but if Chicago were able to put together a strong enough offer for the four-time Pro Bowler (a package that would probably include Booker and draft capital), the Cowboys may be willing to listen," Schmidt wrote. Of course, he is referring to second-year pass rusher Austin Booker. Parsons finished the 2024 NFL season with 43 total tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a defended pass in 13 games. Back in 2023, he totaled 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes in 17 games. However, if the team chooses not to pay up to keep him, the Bears would be wise to swoop in and try to acquire him. At 26 years old, Parsons could be the face of the Chicago defense for years to come. He would be the kind of addition that could power the Bears to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Former Auburn QB Bo Nix is learning from legendary signal callers ahead of the 2025 season
Bo Nix met with the Denver Broncos media recently to talk about his meeting with Drew Brees. Former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is looking to take his game to another level. Nix had a big rookie season for the Denver Broncos, throwing 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 66%. He helped lead the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since the 2015 season when they won the Super Bowl against another former Auburn quarterback, Cam Newton, and the Carolina Panthers. Nix did that under head coach Sean Payton who knows something about coaching great quarterbacks. That is a category Nix wants to get to. At his previous stop with the New Orleans Saints, Payton got to coach Drew Brees. Nix had the opportunity to meet with Bress over the off-season. Nix talked about how it was fun talking to Brees over the off-season. He also mentioned talking to both Peyton and Eli Manning and picking their brains on what they went through as a player. He was quoted by Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports saying, 'I want to be the best in the world." Nix is talking to legends who, at one point in their careers, were considered the best. Especially talking about Peyton (Manning) and Brees. Adding Eli (Manning) to the list makes five championships among the three. Brees played 15 seasons for the New Orleans Saints, and all were under Payton as his head coach. During that time Brees threw for 68,010 yards and 491 touchdowns. The Saints posted a record of 142-86 record, and they were the champions for the 2009 season. It is unknown if Nix will have a career like Brees, but he is off to a good start after year one.
