Previewing the 2025 season for Penn State's Karson Kiesewetter with his player profile
Going into the 2025 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will examine each player listed on the Penn State roster. Over the preseason, each profile will cover the player's background, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.
He hasn't seen any snaps through two seasons on campus, but safety Karson Kiesewetter may get his first snaps in 2025. The former quarterback has been transitioning to a new position but may be acclimated enough for some playing time next season.
Preseason Player Profile
Hometown: Altoona, Pennsylvania
Height: 5-10
Weight: 194 lb
Class in 2025: Redshirt sophomore
Recruiting Rankings
Class of 2025: Unranked
Kiesewetter wasn't ranked by any major recruiting service but was named the 2021 Pennsylvania 1A Player of the Year. A lack of competition at the 1A level likely led to him being overlooked during his recruitment.
Depth Chart Overview
There's no lack of depth in the safety room, and it'll be difficult for Kiesewetter to get involved this season due to his lack of experience at the position and size limitations. It's possible he contributes on special teams.

Auburn Flips 4-Star QB From Big Ten Powerhouse
Auburn Flips 4-Star QB From Big Ten Powerhouse originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Thursday, rumors emerged that the Auburn Tigers might make a significant move on the recruiting trail. Hayes Fawcett of On3 took to social media, crafting a cryptic tweet that featured a GIF of Aubie the Tiger running on the field in front of a crowded Jordan-Hare Stadium. Advertisement Hours later, Fawcett reported that four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone had flipped his commitment from the Penn State Nittany Lions to the Auburn Tigers. A top prospect in the 2026 class, Falzone committed to Penn State in April. However, Auburn offered him a scholarship in June. In the same month, Falzone decommitted from the Nittany Lions and pledged his allegiance to the Tigers without taking a visit. Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze.© Jake Crandall/ Advertiser / USA TODAY NETWORK Alongside PSU and Auburn, Falzone has offers from the Utah Utes, Iowa Hawkeyes, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Bucknell Bison, Wisconsin Badgers, and Virginia Tech Hokies, among others. In 2024, the six-foot-four passer threw for 2,135 yards, 23 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Falzone also shinned with his legs, rushing for 697 yards and eight scores. The Nazareth High School product collected 2,968 yards and 30 total touchdowns as a sophomore. Advertisement Andrew Ivins of 247Sports praised Falzone, saying, "Will need to keep working on the mechanics and learn how to operate from the pocket on a more consistent basis, but should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level with true dual-threat capabilities that can light up the scoreboard with both his arm and legs." Falzone will join a quarterback room led by former five-star recruit and Oklahoma Sooners recruit Jackson Arnold. Auburn also inked 2025 fringe five-star dual-threat passer, Duece Knight. Top Penn State Recruiting Targets Commit to Notre Dame
Top Penn State Recruiting Targets Commit to Notre Dame originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The college football recruiting scene has not been kind as of late to Penn State. In the past week the Nittany Lions lost two of their top recruiting targets. Class of 2026 players Khary Adams (four-star) and Joey O'Brien (four-star) both committed to play at Notre Dame. The two are both ranked in the ESPN top 200 recruits list for their class. O'Brien and Adams each had Penn State listed in their top choices, prior to their official commitment. Joey O'Brien O'Brien is listed as the No. 4 defensive back in the class of 2026 according to ESPN. He is listed at at 6'4" and weighs in at 185 LBS. His speed and wide range of motion got him on the Irish's radar, as well as Penn's. The Nittany Lions were looking to add some more safety depth, after losing starter Kevin Winston Jr., who got drafted 82nd overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft. Advertisement Winston was highly touted after his 2023-2024 sophomore season. In his junior season this past year, he went out week two last season with a torn ACL against Bowling Green. This opened the flood gates for someone new to make an impact. Sophomore A.J. Harris had no problem in doing that. He helped there be little to no fall off when Winston jr. went down. Penn State finished considered as a top-10 defense, and Harris' draft stock climbed. On a "way too early" mock draft ESPN's Jordan Reid had Harris landing in the first round, getting drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Vikings. With Harris being back in the safety stable this season, and Penn landing another highly praised player from the transfer portal in the same position, King Mack (Alabama). It leads to the question is this position really a vital need for Penn? They seem to think so, because they swung and missed on another top DB recruit in the class of 2026. Khary Adams Adams was ranked as the No. 68 overall prospect by ESPN, and the 8th ranked cornerback. On June 20 he made his commitment to Notre Dame official. With NIL playing a massive part in getting top tier talent, Penn State may be trending in the wrong direction. While the team who flatlined their chances of a national championship last year, seeming to be trending upwards. Advertisement On June 22 Offensive tackle, Grayson McKeough (four-star) commited to Notre Dame . He had Penn State among his final choices, but the top rated tackle, like O'Brien and Adams opted to play for the Fighting Irish. Penn State earns top-20 finish in 2024-25 Directors' Cup standings
With the college baseball season recently concluding, it marks the end of the 2024-25 athletic season. As is tradition, Learfield released the final standings for the Directors' Cup, an annual rankings used to measure a university's overall athletic success from each school year. On Thursday, Learfield announced the final tally, which is based on a formula that awards points for success in different sports. Penn State finished the season with the No. 16 overall ranking, which comes after being ranked No. 3 after the fall rankings were released. Mediocre performances from the baseball, softball, men's volleyball and women's lacrosse teams hurt the Nittany Lions, but they still finished higher than their No. 24 ranking a year prior. Penn State finished with 893 total points, with 213.5 from fall sports, 335 from winter sports and just 143 in the spring window. Men's wrestling and women's volleyball each contributed 100 points while earning national championships, while football, women's soccer, fencing and men's lacrosse all eclipsed 70 points. Both basketball teams, as well as the baseball and softball teams, finished with no points. The Nittany Lions placed fifth among Big Ten schools, trailing No. 2 USC, No. 5 UCLA, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 13 Michigan. The conference as a whole was successful, with every school ranking in the top 90 spots out of over 300 total Division I institutions. Additionally, every Big Ten school besides Iowa and Rutgers ranked in the top 50.
