Longtime Sporting KC G Tim Melia announces retirement
Melia, 38, spent 10 seasons with Sporting Kansas City. The MLS club will formally recognize Melia with a ceremony at halftime of Saturday's match against St. Louis City.
Melia is Sporting KC's all-time leader in regular-season wins (107), saves (746) and clean sheets (69). He helped the club win the U.S. Open Cup in 2015 and 2017 and was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2017 and Comeback Player of the Year in 2015.

Jefte has officially left the club and another fringe man looks set to follow Left-back Jefte has sealed a switch to Palmeiras - and has netted Rangers a bumper profit. The Brazilian joined the Light Blues from Fluminese last summer for just £600,000 after catching the eye on loan at APOEL. Record Sport understands a £6.5million payout has been landed for Jefte with the package set to include performance related add-ons and a sell-on clause. It means that the Ibrox side have turned a £5.9m profit minimum on the player and can look to reinvest a chunk of that in a new starting left-back. He's not the only player leaving either as it's being reported Jose Cifuentes is closing in on a move away of his own. MLS reporter Tom Bogert reports the Ecuador midfielder is on the verge of a loan move to Toronto FC. It's believed the deal is a loan until next summer with a buy option which Toronto can trigger should he prove a success back in MLS. Cifuentes was tipped as a game-changing signing by Michael Beale, who brought him to the club in 2023, but he's struggled to settle and since spent time on loan at Cruzeiro in Brazil and Aris in Greece. Charlotte transferring D Adilson Malanda to Middlesbrough
August 20 - Charlotte FC announced the transfer of defender Adilson Malanda to English second-tier side Middlesbrough FC on Wednesday. The 23-year-old French center back will stay on loan at Charlotte for the remainder of the MLS season before departing for a reported $8 million fee plus add-ons. "Adilson has been a true professional since stepping foot in Charlotte and throughout this process where we worked together to get a deal that worked for both the club and the player," general manager Zoran Krneta said. "There were multiple top clubs that sent us strong offers for Adi, but in the end, this option allowed us to keep him through the end of the season as we push for the top four. His career path shows that Charlotte FC is the right place for young players to come and develop into sought-after players from clubs all around the world." Fire acquire D Joel Waterman from CF Montreal
August 20 - The Chicago Fire acquired veteran defender Joel Waterman from CF Montreal on Wednesday, both clubs announced. In exchange for the 29-year-old Canadian center back, Montreal receives up to $600,000 in general allocation money. Waterman tallied five goals and seven assists in 158 appearances across all competitions for Montreal since 2020. "Joel's experience at both the international level and in MLS will be a valuable asset to the team as we build for the future," said Chicago director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter. "His competitive nature and leadership qualities will have an immediate impact in this final stretch of the season. We look forward to welcoming Joel to Chicago." Waterman, who has earned 10 caps with Canada, helped Montreal win the 2021 Canadian Championship.
