Nurul Izzah: Deputy president's role key to supporting Anwar's national agenda

KUALA LUMPUR: The role of PKR deputy president has become more critical as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also leads the party, shoulders the heavy responsibility of steering the nation through an era of uncertainty.
Newly-elected party deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar said Anwar holds this position amid ongoing global power struggles, including the United States-China trade war.
"In such a time, the role of deputy president becomes even more critical to strengthen the party and ensure our internal governance remains firmly on track, allowing the president to fully focus on national administration," she said in a Facebook post today.
Among her first initiatives, Nurul Izzah said she would introduce a universal programme for all party divisions, a comprehensive effort to empower grassroots machinery.
She said the programme would focus on expanding the support base, adopting effective strategies to reach the people, and identifying the best ways to assist communities in their respective constituencies.
"We must not let our warriors go into battle without strength.
"We will ensure that every general and warrior of the party, from the branches to the central leadership, is equipped with sufficient strength, knowledge, resources and fighting spirit to face the upcoming political battlefield," she said.
Nurul Izzah said victory is not a moment for celebration or complacency, but a call to action, and a time to double efforts, go to the ground, listen, and return to the real battleground.
"I step forward not with pride, but with a deep sense of responsibility, fully aware that every vote is a trust, and every trust demands real work.
"Let us rebuild this strength. If there are cracks, let us mend them. If there is distance, let us close it.
"Together, we can bring about genuine reform from the heart, for the people.
"I speak on behalf of everyone, whether you voted for me or for Rafizi (Ramli, former PKR deputy president), let us honour this mandate," she said.
In the PKR Central Leadership Council race on Friday, Nurul Izzah was elected as the party's new deputy president with 9,803 votes, defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

Italian scholars back China's multilateral vision, call for deeper partnership

ROME, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Italian experts hailed China's peaceful development path and called for deeper bilateral cooperation to promote global peace and stability at a seminar marking the 55th anniversary of China-Italy diplomatic relations last Friday. Giancarlo Elia Valori, president of the Foundation for International and Geopolitical Studies of Italy, highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, tracing it back to Marco Polo. He also welcomed the recent UN decision to adopt June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, an initiative proposed by China. Chinese Ambassador to Italy Jia Guide reviewed the fruits of bilateral ties since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1970, and called for continued collaboration as guardians of peace and security, advocates of shared development, and models of mutual learning. In his remarks, Valori criticized the imbalance of the U.S.-led postwar global order and said China's vision of a shared future offers a fairer and more inclusive framework for international cooperation. Pino Arlacchi, former UN under-secretary-general praised China's peaceful global role and its support for a multipolar world. He expressed hope for stronger Italy-China cooperation within the UN, especially in cultural and intellectual exchange. A special exhibition celebrating 55 years of bilateral diplomatic relations was also held on the sideline of the seminar.

Anwar: 13MP success hinges on unity and coordination across ministries

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that the success of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) hinges on proper coordination and preparedness across all government ministries and agencies. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said every administrative machinery must act in unison as one national team to implement policies grounded in reality and designed to meet future challenges. "The 13MP was drafted following continuous discussions among ministries, central agencies and state governments over the past few months," said Anwar, who chaired the Special Cabinet Meeting today to review the framework and key initiatives of the plan. He said the 13MP — a key document that will shape the country's development over the next five years — is scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat at the end of next month. During the meeting, Anwar also gave ministers and senior officials the opportunity to contribute ideas and suggestions to sharpen the plan's implementation. "The 13MP is a continuation of the reforms driven by the MADANI Government over the past two years, based on the aspirations of the MADANI Economy — to restructure the economic framework, elevate the status, dignity and well-being of the people, and build a more just, sustainable and resilient nation," he said. — BERNAMA
