A woman's dismembered body turned up on a beach on the holiday island of Gran Canaria, after she texted friend to say she was going to a party.
A murder investigation was launched after the 41-year-old Colombian woman was found on the beach of Los Enanos, in the San Andrés area. Police say her body showed "clear signs" of a violent death.
She was not seen alive again after sending a message to her friend. She was found by a person walking on the beach, who reported the horrifying find to the authorities.
Police believe the person who killed her had stabbed her in the neck before trying to dismember her body.
Officers from the Guardia Civil arrested the owner of a local bar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in connection with the death. The suspect, identified only as David S, is the proprietor of the Arenales café-bar.
He was detained at his home in the Las Torres neighbourhood and is due to appear in court later today, or tomorrow.
Detectives from the Guardia Civil's Criminalistics and Homicide Units combed through the Arenales bar in search of biological evidence or other materials.
Officers in full forensic suits were seen entering and exiting the premises, collecting sealed bags of potential evidence.

On June 13, two new charges of sexual penetration without consent were filed against Filly. During a court hearing in November, the British-Colombian saw his bail request put on hold until later that day. ABC Australia covered the story, noting that Perth barrister Seamus Rafferty SC is representing the entertainer. Rafferty commented on the denied bail, stating: "This has already made headlines. Given the nature of social media, the nature of people jumping on bandwagons, given the nature of (the) power imbalance between the parties." A TikTok video from Perth's Bar1 Nightclub went viral last year, showcasing Filly – who has appeared in Channel 4's The Great Celebrity Bake Off – performing at the venue. Meanwhile, in a sombre contrast, images depicting injuries allegedly sustained by a woman were presented to the court. "No ordinary person can consent in those circumstances," stated the prosecutor in reference to the gruesome photos, adding: "Across her body is a history of violent acts, ... we say those photos and what is alleged is beyond the pale, beyond what could be considered to be a consensual act." Filly, who was born in Colombia and moved to London aged two as a refugee with his mum and sister began his YouTube career in 2013 before releasing his debut single Take Time in 2017. Without warning, the knifeman launched a frenzied knife attack, stabbing Bruna more than 20 times in front of shocked bystanders. Claudio Elizeu, a 40-year-old cleaner at the same complex, was arrested at the scene, CNN Brazil reports. According to local police, Elizeu, who was employed as a janitor at the mall, told investigators that he killed Tais because she had no interest in pursuing a relationship with him. Authorities say there is no evidence that the two shared a close personal relationship. Bruna was well known among literary circles online. She also worked as a travel agent in the same shopping centre where the attack took place. Following her death, Bruna's family posted a heartfelt message on her Instagram account, which had over 8,000 followers, thanking her audience for their support and honouring her passion for literature. "This week, our dear Tais Bruna, the owner of this profile, left us in a very sad and unbelievable way," the post read. "'Reader Fashion' was one of her greatest joys. Talking about books, recommending new reads, and interacting with you brought light into her days. We, her family, sincerely thank you for the messages and prayers. Tais, we will love you forever." Her death is part of a disturbing trend of violence against women, particularly influencers and public figures, in Latin America. Just weeks before Bruna's murder, Colombian model and influencer María José Estupiñán, 22, was shot at point-blank range by a gunman disguised as a delivery driver. The graphic footage shows her looking out the window moments before gunshots rang out, striking her in the chest and head. Missing woman killed by ex-lover at work and wheeled away in bin, court told
Cleaner Yajaira Castro Mendez, 46, had allegedly previously been in a relationship with married Juan Francisco Toledo, who is accused of her murder. She was reported missing to the Metropolitan Police on May 31, having left her home in Ilford, east London, on the morning of May 29. Following a police search, her body was found in the Bolderwood area of Hampshire on Saturday. At a hearing on Tuesday, prosecutor Caroline Carberry KC alleged that Toledo had killed the Colombian national on the evening of May 29 at an office where they were working in central London's legal district. She told the court: 'The defendant was Ms Mendez's work colleague. They were both cleaning staff at an office building on Grays Inn Road and they had been in recent history in a relationship and on the day of her death they were both at work.' Ms Mendez arrived for work at 5pm and was fatally injured inside the office block, it was alleged. Mr Carberry claimed that just after 8.30pm, her body was removed from the office in a wheelie bin. The defendant allegedly then placed the body in his car and drove to Hampshire where the body was dumped. Ms Mendez's former flatmate had raised the alarm after she failed to move into new accommodation, the court was told. A post-mortem examination to determine the cause of her death was ongoing in Winchester. Venezuelan national Toledo, 51, of Crystal Palace, south London, was arrested on June 4 and subsequently charged with murder. On Tuesday, the defendant appeared at the Old Bailey before Judge Mark Lucraft KC for a preliminary hearing. A plea hearing was set for September 1 with a provisional trial from April 20 2026. The defendant, who was assisted by a Spanish interpreter, was remanded into custody. Ms Mendez's disappearance was initially treated as a missing person investigation led by local officers but the investigation was transferred to the Met's Specialist Crime Command on June 5, after a range of extensive further inquiries suggested she had come to harm.
