86,542 cases settled in National Lok Adalat

Pune: A total of 86,542 cases were settled, and compensation of Rs183.5 crore was awarded to the litigants in the National Lok Adalat organised at the district and sessions courts on Saturday. The district legal services authority (DLSA), Pune, placed 2.20 lakh compoundable cases for settlement before 123 panels in the Lok Adalat, of which 86,542 cases were successfully settled between the disputed parties.
The
cases settled
include bank recovery, criminal, electricity bills, labour disputes, land acquisition, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce, revenue, service matters, water bills, and consumer disputes.
DLSA secretary Sonal Patil said the Lok Adalat, organised under the guidance of principal district and sessions judge Mahendra Mahajan, successfully resolved 86,542 cases, underscoring the efficacy of
alternative dispute resolution
in making justice accessible to all.
Patil said this achievement reflects not only the unwavering commitment of their team but also the collaborative spirit of the judiciary, legal professionals, and the public. "The purpose of Lok Adalat is to take justice to the homes of people. We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure that justice is not a distant ideal but a tangible reality for every citizen," she said.
The Lok Adalat, for the first time, settled a commercial dispute case of Rs3 crore filed by Atlas Chemicals against ABC Inc under the Commercial Courts Act, 2018. It helped in securing the release of 10 undertrial prisoners lodged in Yerawada Central Prison in six theft cases. The Lok Adalat reunited a couple in a matrimonial dispute case after referring them to a series of counselling sessions.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant BNS sections & began a probe. Based on intelligence inputs & surveillance, Rahul Hatewar, a resident of Kundanlal Gupta Nagar, was picked up. During interrogation, he confessed to the theft & revealed his accomplice as Nikesh Shahu, 25. Further probe revealed that the duo was involved in 2 other housebreaking cases in Yashodhara Nagar. Cops recovered stolen gold & silver ornaments worth Rs3,04,500 from Hatewar. The hunt for Shahu is underway.

Nagpur: Two guests in a hotel at HB Town Square near Pardi had a lucky escape on Sunday after a fire broke out in an outdoor unit of an air conditioner (AC) in the gallery and engulfed their room, causing damage estimated at around Rs3 lakh. No injuries were reported. According to Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) fire department, the fire broke out on the second floor around 11.30 am. One of the hotel staff called Kalamna fire station in-charge Aklim Sheikh, who quickly dispatched a fire tender to the spot. "We rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading further," said Sheikh. The guests fled the room through the door, leaving their clothes and laptop behind, which were destroyed in the fire. AC and other furniture in the room were also charred. "The hotel staff had already started dousing the flames with fire equipment at the hotel when we arrived at the scene," said an officer. It took firefighters more than an hour to douse the flames. The hotel was temporarily vacated until the fire was extinguished. The reason behind the fire is unknown. Meanwhile, two more fires were reported at other locations between 11am and 2pm. Both fires were reported in garbage heaps. The first fire was reported along a nullah near Pratap Nagar. A fire tender from Trimurti Nagar fire station was pressed into service. Another fire was reported in a pile of garbage on Nara Road at around 2pm. A fire tender from Sugat Nagar fire station extinguished the fire.

Patna: Close on the heels of tightening noose against Maoists across the country by security forces, the state Special Task Force (STF) and Lakhisarai police forced an area commander, Ravan Koda, surrendered before them on Saturday. According to a press release issued by Bihar police, "The Maoist was involved in several serious incidents, including robbery of the Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express near Kundar Halt in Lakhisarai, where passengers, Army jawan, and officials were killed and their weapons looted 2013; kidnapping of one Dharambir Yadav from Mahulia in 2022 and shooting at his house; the abduction of a businessman's son from Piribazar and an encounter with the police; seven vehicles, enganged in lake construction, were set on fire and eight labourers were kidnapped in Haveli Kharagpur in 2018; the murder of Azimganj village head Parmand Tudu in Munger by slitting his throat in 2021; and involvement in over two dozen other serious cases, including police encounters. " STF ADG Kundan Krishnan said the Maoist had been on the run for the last 15 years and had 26 cases registered against him with various police stations in Lakhisarai, Jamui, and Munger districts. "Due to continuous operations and police pressure, he surrendered before Lakhisarai SP Ajay Kumar. Further action is being undertaken to provide him benefits under the surrender-cum-rehabilitation scheme," Krishnan said.
