Eberechi Eze has opened up on the punishing training sessions at England's warm-weather camp here that Thomas Tuchel believes will prepare the players for the heat of the World Cup next summer. Tuchel and his squad are at the exclusive Camiral Golf & Wellness resort, partly to prepare for the qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona on Saturday. But the focus since Monday has been to look at the bigger picture, which has involved monitoring the reaction of the players to extreme temperatures – with the help of biometric tablets and innovative sports-science methods. The players have been asked to take a tablet and cycle for 45 minutes at a consistent level inside a tent that has been heated to a minimum of 35C. The Football Association's experts have been able to track their core body temperatures under stress – with the idea being that it will inform how they manage them at the finals in the US, Canada and Mexico. Eze, who finished the domestic season on a high with the winner for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, said it was the first time he had seen such an approach in training. 'It was quite difficult to do,' he said. 'It was taking the tablets and you had to be on the bike for 45 minutes, which is a long time to be on a bike. 'You had to keep going and they monitored your heart rate, your actual temperature. It was just understanding and it was definitely helpful … a bit of an insight into yourself and how you will cope in those situations.' Cole Palmer, the Chelsea midfielder, said: 'It was tough. It was 35C, 36C inside the tents and we had to get to a certain watts [level] on the bike and maintain it. For 45 minutes.' Eze has been on fire since he scored his first England goal in the 3-0 victory against Latvia in late March, which was Tuchel's second game in charge. The first was the 2-0 win against Albania three days before. Tuchel has talked about the goal having inspired Eze, who went back to Palace and finished the season with nine in 13 matches. The one that will always be remembered was against City to secure Palace's first major trophy and a place in the Europa League, although there is a complication on that front because of the majority stake that the club's co-owner, John Textor, holds in Lyon. The Ligue 1 club have also qualified for the Europa League. Uefa's rules forbid individuals from being involved with more than one club in the same competition to avoid conflicts of interest. 'The main thing for me after the FA Cup win … when we were leaving the stadium, when we were on the [open-top bus] parade was looking at the fans' faces and seeing people in tears and people overwhelmed by what we've done. That's something that will live with me for ever.' The FA has announced that Lee Carsley has signed a two-year contract extension with the England Under-21s. The manager is preparing to lead the team at the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia this month, having won the tournament in 2023.

Spain swamped by floods as two-hour rain deluge leaves drivers trapped and streets underwater as emergency declared
THIS is the moment a major Spanish city was pummelled by a torrential downpour, causing floods that have brought the place to a near standstill. The heavy rain battered Valladolid on Tuesday, leading to jaw-dropping scenes as residents tried to battle the elements. 9 9 9 9 Streets quickly flooded with water throughout the city, causing chaos among motorists. Within the space of just one hour between 7pm and 8pm, emergency services got more than 200 calls, local media has reported. The scale of the flooding has seen the city placed under a state of emergency by Spanish authorities. Cars were gridlocked as the rain came pouring down, cascading over the side of a bridge into a powerful looking waterfall. Tunnels became fully flooded, with one car even getting trapped inside, Castilla y León Emergency Services told local media. One viral clip shows the extreme lengths some motorists were forced to go to as the water made driving impossible. Some residents were seen nearly waist-deep in water trying to push their vehicles through the relentless downpour. Elsewhere, public transport passengers were no more insulated from the shocking weather. Residents were forced to uncomfortably wade through the flooded streets to board the bus. Shopkeepers throughout Valladolid were spotted hard at work to stop their stores from being overwhelmed by the floods. 9 9 9 They can be seen rolling up their sleeves and grabbing buckets to try and stem the flooding at their shops. But other residents didn't let the poor weather stop them having a good time. One clip shows two men sat on reclining chairs in the middle of the road, enjoying a bottle of beer and seemingly oblivious to the elements. While no injuries have been reported as a result of the flooding, the freak weather has put emergency responders on high alert. As much as 16 square litres of rain per square metre has battered the Spanish city, local media has reported. It comes just weeks after another popular Spanish spot was pounded by the elements. Towns across the Valencia region were hit by a ghastly storm last month that made some areas look almost arctic. Footage shared across social media showed pounding hail and gushing rainwater surging through the region's towns. White hailstones coated themselves along the streets, rendering several towns almost empty outdoors. Cars left on the streets were covered in thick layers of hail. Spain was also hit by a massive blackout that affected most of the country - as well as neighbouring Portugal - on April 28. It saw airports and hospitals shut down and trains brought to a halt across the Iberian peninsula. Officials blamed a "rare atmospheric phenomenon" for the incident. 9 9

UK weather: Brits to bask in glorious sunshine this weekend with ‘Iberia heat' sending temps to 26C – but only for some
SOME Brits could be set to enjoy temperatures as high as 26C this weekend as "Iberian heat" rolls in alongside glorious sunshine. The Met Office has forecast that the jet stream, which is coming up from the Atlantic Ocean, will allow warm air to be drawn up from the Iberian Peninsula, carrying it to the UK. 6 6 6 This could lead to above-average temperatures across parts of Britain, while some other areas could be in for showers and cloudy conditions this weekend. Met Office Meteorologist Alex Deakin explained that the "reasonably active" jet stream "may well tap into some real warmth from Iberia as we head into Friday and Saturday." He added: "Temperatures across the south - where it warms up on Friday - could get to 24C, 25C, maybe even 26C." The Iberian Peninsula, which includes Spain and Portugal, typically enjoys far warmer weather than the UK - and so winds carried over from this region are expected to help heat up southern and eastern England. Alex added that as we head into Saturday, parts of central England could also experience higher temperatures, pushing towards the 26C mark. He said: "By the time we get to Saturday, that warmth extends further north across more parts of central and eastern England - so we'll see temperatures more widely over 20c and into the mid-20s in parts of eastern England." However, this warmth won't be for everyone, due to winds coming in from the west and south west. Alex explained these winds would mean that western areas in the UK wouldn't feel "as warm". However, he added: "It'll still feel quite warm and humid everywhere as we head towards the end of this week. "But temperatures [will have] quite a contrast - it is going to warm up but only for some." 6 6 6 While temperatures are likely to be above-average across East Anglia and the south east, conditions are expected to be average for this time of year in the west of the UK, Alex said. In terms of sunshine, much of the south and east are expected to bask in glorious bright conditions, while western and northern areas are hit with clouds and scattered showers. Alex added: "If we see some sunshine on Saturday, it will really feel quite warm in these eastern areas." He explained western areas will likely not feel the sunshine this weekend, as an area of low pressure from the west brings "more cloud and more rain". By Sunday, there are expected to be scattered showers across parts of the north of England and Scotland, while southern areas should remain largely dry. This comes just days after Brits were soaked in a washout Bank Holiday Monday, with temperatures having dropped to as low as -5C in some regions. Thunderstorms hit across the UK, with one area - in and around the River Mimram in Hertfordshire - being issued with a flood alert. It followed the driest start to the spring in nearly six decades.
