National Doughnut Day: Where to get free donuts in Connecticut
CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Some Connecticut shops are helping celebrate National Doughnut Day this Friday with the perfect thing: something sweet.
The annual day dates back to 1938, when The Salvation Army started it as a way to honor 'Donut Lassies' who would serve donuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I.

Lyman Orchards will be offering 50% off prepackaged six-pack apple cider donuts, available in-store only at their Apple Barrel Farm Market.
A representative at the Krispy Kreme in Mohegan Sun Casino said this year they're offering some discounted prices. You can get two dozen original glazed donuts for $18.99 or a combo of a dozen glazed and a dozen assorted for $20.99.
Dunkin' Donuts is giving out a free donut with any drink purchase. They're also partnering with Stoney Clover Lane for limited-edition merchandise.
Located in Foxwoods Resort and Casino, Zac Young's Sprinkletown will be giving away three free mini donuts with each purchase until 7 p.m.
Cha Papi is offering customers a mochi donut with purchase of a drink (limit one donut per customer) and half a dozen donuts at the discounted price of $18.
Dude's Donuts will be giving one free donut per customer who stops by Giovanni's Brick Oven Pizzeria in Glastonbury. While supplies last.

Feeling like you need a random reason to celebrate? Here it is: National Donut Day is back! National Donut Day comes around annually on the first Friday of June. In 2025, National Donut Day falls on June 6. Local Arizona bakeries and national favorites will join in on the fun with discounts, merch and free donuts. And two of the most well-known donut shops plan to go all out this year. Dunkin' announced a collaboration with a luxury lifestyle fashion brand and Krispy Kreme will turn the one-day celebration into two weeks of deals. Here's everything you need to know about National Donut Day and how to get a sweet treat for free. The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938 to honor the organization's Donut Lassies and Donut Girls, women who traveled to France to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers during World War I. "National Donut Day is a time to remember the lasting impact of a unique piece of history and to honor the heroic men and women who have served our country," said The Salvation Army's national commander, Merle Heatwole, in a press release. The Salvation Army will distribute donuts to veterans in several cities across the U.S. and have other events, including the National Donut Day World Donut Eating Championship, scheduled to be held at the National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C. Across the U.S., donut shops get in on the action by giving away free donuts or offering discounts on June 6. Here's a look at some of the best donut day deals. A dream come true?
