World indigenous day observed in Imphal

Imphal: Despite hindrances from various quarters, the indigenous leaders and representatives from across the northeast gathered at the City Convention Centre in Imphal on Saturday to observe the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2025 under the theme 'Indigenous People's Right to Self Determination: A Pathway for Food Security and Sovereignty'.
The event was hosted by the Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM), under the aegis of the North East Indigenous People's Forum.
The celebration brought together prominent political leaders, community representatives, and cultural performers, highlighting the shared challenges and aspirations of Indigenous peoples in the region. Founder of Tipra Motha Pradyot Debbarman, the chief guest of the event, delivered the keynote address.
During the event, the World Indigenous Day 2025 Declaration was unanimously adopted by the indigenous people of the northeast.
