According to a government statement, the total estimated cost of the projects is Rs 3,399 crore and will be completed by 2029-30.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved two multi-tracking railway projects to ensure faster transportation of both passengers and goods, the government said on Wednesday.
It added that these projects include the third and fourth line between Ratlam-Nagda and fourth line between Wardha-Balharshah.
According to a government statement, the total estimated cost of the projects is Rs 3,399 crore and will be completed by 2029-30.
'The projects are result of PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity which have been possible through integrated planning and will provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods and services," the press note said.
It added, 'The two projects covering four districts across the states of Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 176 km. The proposed multi-tracking project will enhance connectivity to approx 784 villages having a population of about 19.74 lakh." Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that these two projects will give a boost to infrastructure in the country in the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Chennai economic corridors, removing the traffic bottlenecks.
He added that during the third term of the Modi government, projects worth more than Rs 4.5 lakh crore have been approved in the transport and infrastructure sector in the country.
The government said that these are essential routes for transportation of commodities such as coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agriculture commodities, and petroleum products etc, hence the capacity augmentation work will result in additional freight traffic of magnitude 18.40 MTPA (million tonnes per annum).
Outlining the environmental benefits, it said that the railways, being environment-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation, will help in achieving climate goals and minimising logistics cost, reduce oil import (20 crore litres) and lower CO2 emissions (99 crore kg) which is equivalent to plantation of 4 crore trees.
'The projects will also generate direct employment for about 74 lakh human-days during construction. These initiatives will improve travel convenience, reduce logistic cost, decrease oil imports and contribute to lower CO2 emissions, supporting sustainable and efficient rail operations," the government said.
'The projects would also enhance logistical efficiency by augmenting line capacity along critical routes for transportation of containers, coal, cement, agricultural commodities, and other goods. These improvements are expected to optimise supply chains, thereby facilitating accelerated economic growth," it added.
Talking about other benefits, the press statement said that the increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for railways.
'These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion," the press note said.

Operation Sindoor reopens saga of 300 women who rebuilt bombed airstrip in 1971 Indo-Pak war

Pakistani jets had bombed the Bhuj airstrip at that time, rendering it unusable. In order to make it operational again, it was required to be repaired and rebuilt urgently. Risking their lives, the women from Madhapar village in Kutch stepped in to carry out the task. Indian Army's 'Operation Sindoor' carried out recently against the terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) brought back the memories of this real-life war-drama that unfolded during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Ahmedabad, May 30 (PTI) Over half a century ago, 300-odd women from a village in Gujarat's Kutch rebuilt the bombed airstrip of the Bhuj IAF Station in just 72 hours during the Indo-Pak war, and those surviving among them say they are ready to perform similar duties for the country again if the need arises. During his public event in Bhuj town on May 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met 13 of the surviving women, who are known as 'Virangana', and sought their blessings. He interacted with these septuagenarian women who had helped the Indian Army by rebuilding the airfield. Madhapar village is nearly 5 km from Bhuj, the administrative headquarters of Kutch district that shares its border with Pakistan. During the interaction with PM Modi, these women gave a sapling of Sindoor tree, which will now be planted at the Prime Minister's house in New Delhi. In his address at Bhuj, PM Modi said, 'These women had rebuilt the runway in just 72 hours, which helped us in resuming our attacks by air. I am fortunate that they gave their blessings to me today.' One of these courageous women, Shambai Bhanderi, said the blackout enforced in the bordering Kutch district in view of the Operation Sindoor on May 8 and 9 brought back memories of the 1971 war. Talking to reporters, she said that even though they are getting older, she and other women will not think twice if they are called to perform similar tasks today if the need arises. 'The work which was assigned to us was not easy because we have to work under the shadow of Pakistani planes, which used to hover above us. We pray to God that such time never comes back,' Bhanderi said. 'But, our spirit is still alive and we will definitely go and work for the Army if they call us again. Since it's difficult for me to work due to my age, I will take my children and grand-children along to finish the work' she added. Eighty-year-old Kaanbai Virani echoed similar views, saying the women of Madhapar will take up any responsibility if war breaks out and the country needs their help again. She recalled how they had to save themselves from the Pak bombers while fixing the bombed runway. 'We were instructed to take shelter upon hearing a siren and resume work on the second siren. We felt scared on the first day but there was no fear the next day. We worked from 7 am to 7 pm and finished the work in 72 hours. If need arises, we can still do such work to save our country,' Virani said. About the recent interaction with PM Modi at Bhuj, Virani said she and 12 other surviving women of Madhapar gave blessings to the PM and gave him assurance of support in all manners. 'On the stage, the PM greeted us and asked 'kem chho badha' (how are you all?). I told him that I am not in good health due to my age. He promptly asked me to take care of myself. He also expressed gratitude for getting blessings from us,' she said. PTI PJT PD NP This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Bank fraud amount increased three times to Rs 36,014 crore in 2024-'25, says RBI

The amount involved in bank frauds increased three times to Rs 36,014 in the financial year 2024-'25, showed data from the Reserve Bank of India. The amount involved in bank frauds was Rs 12,230 crore in the previous financial year 2023-'24, according to the central bank's annual report released on Wednesday. The central bank attributed the increase to 'removal of fraud classification in 122 cases amounting to Rs 18,674 crore reported during the previous financial year and reporting afresh during the current financial year after re-examination and ensuring compliance' with a March 2023 judgement of the Supreme Court. The number of registered cases of fraud fell to 23,953 in 2024-'25 from 36,060 in the previous year. Private banks accounted for 59.4% (Rs 10,088 crore) of all fraud cases, the data showed. Public sector banks accounted for 29% (Rs 25,667 crore) of the cases. In 2024-'25, the frauds, in terms of numbers, took place mainly in the category of digital payments in terms of numbers and predominantly in the loan portfolio in terms of the value, the central bank said. The central bank's annual report added that the data pertained to frauds of Rs 1 lakh and above that were reported during the financial year. The frauds reported during 2024-'25 could have taken place in previous years before they were reported, it added.

Samsung Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Edge and S25 Ultra: Which one is right for you?

With the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this month, Samsung has now completed its flagship lineup for 2025. The series now includes four models — the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Edge, and the S25 Ultra. While the standard, Plus, and Ultra variants were introduced back in January during the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, the Edge model was only recently launched globally on May 13, after being teased at the same Unpacked event. Now that all four phones are available for purchase, the big question is: which one should you go for?advertisementGalaxy S25 series: Price and offersSamsung's entire Galaxy S25 lineup is now available through major online and offline stores, as well as on the official Samsung India S25: The entry-level model starts at Rs 74,999 for the 128GB version. The 256GB and 512GB variants are priced at Rs 80,999 and Rs 92,999, respectively. It's available in Icy Blue, Silver Shadow, Navy, and Mint. If you're buying from Samsung's website, you also get access to online-exclusive shades like Blue Black, Coral Red, and Pink Gold. Offers include an instant discount of up to Rs 10,000 on select bank cards and no-cost EMI plans for up to 12 months. Galaxy S25+: The Plus model starts at Rs 99,999 for the 256GB variant, and the 512GB version is priced at Rs 1,11,999. It comes in Navy and Silver Shadow, while online buyers can choose from exclusive shades such as Coral Red, Blue Black, and Pink Gold. Similar to the base model, the same bank offers and EMI plans S25 Edge: The latest addition to the series, the S25 Edge, is priced at Rs 1,09,999 for the 256GB version and Rs 1,21,999 for the 512GB variant. It's available in Titanium Silver and Titanium Jetblack. While Samsung hasn't officially updated the product page with offers, you can expect similar discounts — up to Rs 11,000 off with certain cards and no-cost EMI options for up to 12 months — as seen on other S25 Ultra: The top-end Ultra starts at Rs 1,29,999 for the 256GB variant. The 512GB and 1TB versions are priced at Rs 1,41,999 and Rs 1,65,999, respectively. You can get it in Titanium Blue, Titanium Grey, Titanium White, and Titanium Black. Online-only shades include Titanium Jade Green, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Pink Gold. Bank offers include discounts of up to Rs 11,000 and the usual no-cost EMI S25 series: Which Samsung flagship is right for you?All four phones in the Galaxy S25 family are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and come with 12GB RAM as standard, regardless of the storage S25: This one's perfect for users who prefer compact phones. It features a 6.2-inch display — the same size as the previous model — but has slightly narrower bezels this time around. For the first time in the standard Galaxy S model, you now get 12GB RAM across all three storage options — 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The 4,000mAh battery can comfortably see you through a full day of light to moderate use, usually ending the day with around 10 per cent charge left. It comes with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both sides and a durable aluminium S25+: If you're after a bigger screen but don't want to spend on the Ultra, the Galaxy S25+ might hit the sweet spot. It offers a 6.7-inch display, just like its predecessor, and houses a 4,900mAh battery. This model too, features 12GB RAM with storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The camera setup is shared with the base S25, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom. Up front, you get a 12MP selfie S25 Edge: The Edge variant blends several elements from other models in the series. It's ideal for users who want a lightweight phone — it weighs only 163g — without compromising on screen size, offering a 6.7-inch panel like the Plus. It also features a premium titanium frame similar to the Ultra and has an ultraslim 5.8mm thickness. The Edge stands out with its design. While it includes a powerful 200-megapixel main camera like the Ultra, it skips the telephoto lens, which even the S25 and S25+ include. So, it's more about style and sleekness here. If you're okay with making a few compromises — mainly in battery size and camera versatility — the Edge is a compelling option. It's available in 256GB and 512GB storage S25 Ultra: For those wanting the very best, the Ultra is still the top pick. It features a large 6.9-inch screen and is the only model in the lineup to include the S Pen, making it a great option for creatives and professionals who like to sketch or sign documents on the go. Samsung has also trimmed down the design, making this year's Ultra thinner and lighter compared to the S24 Ultra. It sports a titanium build and uses Gorilla Armor 2 glass, which is more scratch-resistant and reduces glare. The 5,000mAh battery delivers excellent endurance. Camera upgrades include a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x zoom. This one's available in 256GB, 512GB, and a massive 1TB version.
