Charlie Woods, son of Tiger, fades late and misses out on Junior Ryder Cup
The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., and was tied for second place entering the final round.
But he posted a final-round 74 at the Ackerman-Allen course on Friday, with three bogeys and a double bogey over his final 10 holes.
The Junior Ryder Cup will take place 23-25 September at Bethpage Black and Nassau Country Club, just ahead of the senior event between the US and Team Europe that weekend.
There is also one captain's pick for the team, although Woods is likely not in line to be selected for it.
Lunden Esterline was the runaway winner of the Junior PGA Championship with a final score of 19-under-par 266 (featuring a second-round 62).
Giuseppe Puebla shot a final-round 64 to rocket into a tie for second at 13 under with Tyler Mawhinney (69). In doing so, Puebla received the other automatic qualifying spot for the Junior Ryder Cup.
Esterline, from Andover, Kansas, is a 2027 Auburn commit. Puebla, from Royal Palm Beach, Florida, is also part of the Class of 2027 and uncommitted for college.
Charlie Woods finished 9 under for the week, 10 off Esterline's pace and four strokes out of the running for a Ryder Cup qualifying spot.

NBA star Damian Lillard has taken over as general manager at his former college while he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon. Lillard is a nine-time All-star who last month signed a three-year $42million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. But rather than spend next season on the sidelines, Lillard has accepted a job as the general manager at his alma mater, Weber State. The 35-year-old spent four seasons at Weber State in Utah before being drafted sixth overall by Portland in 2012. He joined the Bucks in 2023 and remained there until July, when he was waived. Lillard had helped Milwaukee reach the NBA playoffs last season. But he tore his left Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the first round of the postseason. Bronzed Brady: Patriots finally to unveil QB statue on Friday
August 3 - The long-awaited statue of Tom Brady, delayed due to scheduling issues, finally will be unveiled Friday outside of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced in June 2024 that the team would be erecting the 12-foot statue during that season. However, when Brady's new employer, Fox Sports, changed plans to send the retired quarterback and its No. 1 broadcast team to Gillette on a game day, the statue dedication was put on hold. Now, a short ceremony will be held Friday ahead of the Patriots' preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Space constraints will allow only limited viewing, but the ceremony will be screened on the videoboards inside the stadium, ESPN reported. Kraft and Brady are expected to speak. "We've had it in storage for over a year. We had hoped to do it a year ago, but Tommy is so busy. It was just hard to find a time," Kraft told Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams Show" last week. "When he got his announcing job with Fox -- by the way, I think he's off the charts with what he's doing. How lucky are we to have the 199th pick [in the 2000 NFL Draft] be the greatest player to every play in the over 100-year history of the NFL? He played for us and he's just a great human being. We are excited to honor him before the game next Friday." It will be a nice culmination to a week of birthday celebrations for Brady, who turned 48 on Sunday.
