Files by Google app gets a major design overhaul

Yahooa day ago
Files by Google is on a roll. Soon after the tech giant began testing out an easier search experience for the file management app, paired with a new native text reader in the works, the app is now starting to show signs of a vibrant new design.
Users don't spend all day on the file management app, but for the little time they do, Google wants users to experience a polished and expressive interface.
For what it's worth, the app's Android 16-connected Material 3 Expressive redesign was first spotted all the way back in May. Roughly three months later, some of those changes are starting to appear for users running stable.
Spotted by readers and then highlighted by the folks over at Android Authority in Files by Google's latest version 1.8436.793259964, the fresh look includes everything from bigger preview thumbnails for recent files and a new typeface to a squiggly progress bar and a redesigned/relocated floating action button (FAB).
Expect a wider release in the comung days
For what it's worth, installing the latest build did not surface the new UI for me, suggesting that rollout is gradual and server-side. Once eventually available, users widely will see the app's home screen with a new conjoined Quick Share and File Scanner FAB that sits in the center instead of being placed to the side. In a similar vein, the app's image viewer currently highlights the Circle to Search and Edit FABs as distinct buttons to the side. These, too, will be conjoined and placed in the bottom center of the screen.
Elsewhere, the progress bar that appears when you initiate an APK installation from within the Files by Google app will appear as a fun squiggly animation, as seen in the last screenshot above. This isn't necessarily a big change, but it does add to the app's overall expressive appeal.
The changes are rolling out now and should be widely visible over the coming week.

How xAI Is Running on Former Google (GOOGL) Employees

So far in 2025, two founding members of Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI have left the team. Indeed, Christian Szegedy left in May, and Igor Babuschkin departed this week. Notably, both had previously worked at Google (GOOGL), and xAI continues to hire heavily from the tech giant, with at least 40 ex-Google staffers joining since its founding in 2023, according to The Information. It is worth noting that many of these new hires had worked on cutting-edge projects, such as Google DeepMind's Gemini models. Now at xAI, they're helping build Grok 4, which Musk says outperforms similar AI models from OpenAI, Meta (META), and Google. This movement of talent shows just how frequently researchers are switching between top AI firms. Although some xAI employees have left for OpenAI, including co-founder Kyle Kosic and infrastructure engineering head Uday Rudarraju, there hasn't been a noticeable wave of defections to Google, Microsoft (MSFT), or Meta. A likely reason is that xAI is still a young company, and many employees' stock options haven't fully vested yet. xAI is also known for its intense work pace, with some teams reportedly working all seven days of the week. While that might drain some employees, others are said to be motivated by the company's mission and are eager to contribute. Nevertheless, the company has been facing some integration issues after merging with social media platform X in March. In fact, the two companies still operate somewhat separately, with different internal systems and even separate Slack accounts. As a result of these limitations, some employees have resorted to using Signal group chats instead to coordinate their work. What Is the Prediction for Tesla Stock? When it comes to Elon Musk's companies, most of them are privately held. However, retail investors can invest in his most popular company, Tesla (TSLA). Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 14 Buys, 15 Holds, and eight Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average TSLA price target of $307.23 per share implies 6.5% downside risk.

Soros, Appaloosa boost their Nvidia stake. They also bought this beaten-down stock, and it's rallying.

Soros Fund Management and Appaloosa Management both bought a whole lot more Nvidia Corp. stock during the second quarter, according to disclosures released Thursday, as the chip-maker occupies a spot dead-center in the artificial-intelligence boom. Both firms also bought more shares of embattled health-insurance giant UnitedHealth Group UNH over that period. Shares of that company jumped nearly 11% after hours, but they were down 46.3% on the year so far. Appaloosa, meanwhile, bought 1.45 million shares of Nvidia, representing a 483.33% increase that brought the fund's total holdings to 1.75 million shares. Shares of Nvidia edged down 0.1% after hours on Thursday, but are up 35.5% so far this year. Appaloosa snapped up around 2.28 million shares of UnitedHealth representing a 1,300% increase in the fund's holdings in the stock. That brought Appaloosa's total holdings to 2.45 million shares. Soros bought 28,900 more shares of UnitedHealth during the quarter. Soros also bought new shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT and Tesla Inc. TSLA — two other 'Magnificent Seven' stocks. It also added to its stake in Nike Inc. NKE. You could receive up to $7,500 from the AT&T settlement. Here's how class-action suits work. I'm a senior who barely survives on $1,300 a month.
