Barnama22-05-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Year of Skills (AYOS) 2025, launched under Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship, aims to bridge talent gaps across member states to create a more agile and competitive regional workforce.
Led by the Ministry of Human Resources through the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), AYOS 2025 carries the theme 'Bridging Talent, Building ASEAN', underscoring the urgent need to connect skills and opportunities among ASEAN nations.
'This year-long initiative aims to unlock the full potential of the ASEAN workforce and propel regional talent development to new heights,' said HRD Corp in a statement today.
It said the initiative seeks to address five key objectives, such as bridging skills gaps across member states, promoting talent mobility to enhance workforce agility and ensuring inclusive growth that uplifts all communities.
It also aims to strengthen regional collaboration for shared prosperity and to enhance public-private partnerships to future-proof the workforce.
Launched on April 14 at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre (Nexus), Bangsar South here, AYOS 2025 is supported by key regional partners, including the International Labour Organisation and the ASEAN Secretariat.
According to the statement, the initiative underscores the importance of collective action among member states to tackle regional inequalities, unlock youth potential and enhance workforce resilience.
Throughout the year, AYOS 2025 will feature seven flagship events to drive collaboration and innovation, including the ASEAN Human Capital Development Investment Symposium (AHCDIS), National Training Week, ASEAN Training Market Conference, ASEAN TVET Conference, National Human Capital Conference & Exhibition 2025, Global Skills Forum and the ASEAN Forum of Manpower Ministers for Human Capital Development.
Meanwhile, at the national level, each ASEAN member state is supported by dedicated National Coordinators and Ambassadors who act as the primary liaisons within their countries.

Fahmi hints at new initiatives for animation sector

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has hinted that new initiatives will be announced for the animation sector. The Communications Minister said the new initiatives would involve the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and MyCreative Ventures (MyCV). "Next week, I will give a wrapping-up speech in Parliament and there may be a few questions which I will answer officially at the Dewan Rakyat. "My instructions to MyCV and Finas is that aside from preparing funds, we have to look into several aspects of production such as funding from the corporate banking sector," he said at a press conference after announcing the Riuh X Asean event on Thursday (Aug 14). Fahmi said the corporate banking sector is of the view that the creative industry, particularly the animation sector, is profitable. "We want a synergy between the corporate sector and the creative industry. God-willing, MyCV and Finas will facilitate this," he said. At the same time, Fahmi said Finas is currently working hard to strengthen Malaysia's film industry's intellectual property (IP) rights. "Among Finas' efforts are setting up a network which will facilitate locally produced IPs to be brought to the Asean level," he added. Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Riuh X Asean 2025 event would take place from Oct 17 to 26 at a venue to be announced later. Fahmi is expecting 20,000 to 30,000 to attend the event, which is the first of its kind. "This will gather all elements of art, creativity, music and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and Asean, which is true to the theme of Asean 2025 that emphasises unity, inclusivity and sustainability," he said. Among the fringe events taking place over the 10 days is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace. Fahmi said there will be, among others, over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, 100 food vendors from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Other events include FrequenSEA, said Fahmi, which is the first Asean music conference that will be held on Oct 21 and 22. Fahmi said admission to the music conference is free and he is targeting over 200 participants including musicians, publishers, and industry leaders to discuss the future of the music industry in South-East Asia. More information about Riuh X Asean can be obtained at and its official channels on Facebook and Instagram.

Close Ties Among Multiracial People Invaluable Asset

KUANTAN, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The close ties between people of various races and religions in the country are an invaluable asset, symbolising not only independence but also the nation's peace and prosperity, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He therefore urged all parties to avoid division, which would only bring harm, and to ensure that differences of opinion do not sever bonds of friendship or fuel hostility among the people. 'This national spirit calls for us to continue safeguarding the racial harmony we have built over the years. We must firmly reject the perception game, slander and accusations deliberately spread to divide the people. 'This matter will not only erode trust among us but also cause disunity, spark hostility and undermine the stability of the state and the country,' he said in his winding-up speech at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today. Wan Rosdy also urged all parties to embrace independence with the spirit of tolerance, mutual understanding and the determination to build a brighter future together. 'I call on all assembly members and the people of Pahang to liberate themselves not only from physical colonisation but also from the shackles of hatred, suspicion and division,' he said. Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy, when met by reporters after the sitting, described the Pahang supplementary budget approved today as one of the lowest since 2022. He said the RM141 million supplementary budget covered seven items, including an increase in civil servant salaries and pension payments for government retirees. 'This is mandatory and cannot be avoided. The state government must make this payment. A supplementary budget is a normal process for any state or government to address unforeseen matters,' he said.
