‘Weapons' Trailer Teases Children Vanishing in Horror Film From ‘Barbarian' Director Zach Cregger
The teaser trailer for Weapons shows a number of children fleeing their homes in writer-director Zach Cregger's horror feature.
Warner Bros. releases the film in theaters Aug. 8. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan.

The multi-story narrative for Weapons centers on a small town where children have been disappearing late at night. 'Those kids walked out of the homes,' a character says somberly via voiceover in the trailer. 'No one pulled them out. No one forced them.'
Cregger, Roy Lee, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and Miri Yoon serve as producers.
In early 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that New Line won a fierce bidding war for Cregger's spec script for Weapons, with the filmmaker landing eight figures to write and direct. Led by Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long, Barbarian hit theaters in 2022 and became a cult hit, surpassing $45 million at the global box office.
Cregger hit the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas earlier this month to share the first footage from Weapons. During the presentation, New Line boss Richard Brener described the movie as 'intriguing and unpredictable, with a nice helping of batshit insane.'
The director got his start in Hollywood as a member of the comedy group The Whitest Kids U' Know, and his acting credits include starring roles on the series Dads With Kids and Wrecked. Next up, Cregger is writing and directing a reboot of the Resident Evil franchise, with THR reporting last month that the film is eyeing Weapons star Abrams for the lead.

Gavin Newsom Meets Privately With Trump Ambassador Jon Voight in LA
Gov. Gavin Newsom and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump's three Hollywood ambassadors, met in Century City on Thursday to discuss the actor's 'Make Hollywood Great Again' proposal. A Newsom aide and a representative for Voight confirmed the meeting to Politico. 'They shared a commitment to working together to help to build up the film industry in the U.S. — particularly California and Los Angeles,' the outlet reported. Former Warner Bros. executive DeeDee Myers, who is director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, was also present. The meeting came as California's $750 million film tax credit plan remains in the air as state budget cuts have weighed down the process. The pair of California Film & TV Jobs Act bills passed their first floor votes in Sacramento this week, though it's unclear if Trump's tariffs and/or Los Angeles wildfire recovery efforts could impact the outcome. If successful, the bills would expand the types of productions that are eligible for tax incentives, offer a 35% tax rate to L.A.-based productions and increase the program's cap from $330 million to $750 million. Newsom also previously suggested a $7.5 billion film and TV national tax incentive program last month. 'The governor is fully committed to this proposed $750 million investment in California's film and television industry, which will protect good-paying jobs and support the workers who power the state's creative economy,' a spokesperson for Newsom said in a statement. The Oscar-winning actor's May proposal includes a carrot-and-stick approach, mixing tax incentives, foreign film tariffs and co-production treaties to encourage U.S. movie production. Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone are Trump's other two Hollywood ambassadors. TheWrap has reached out to Newsom and Voight's teams for further comment. Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Children of Original ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Actors Auditioned for Reboot
Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that she saw some familiar names on the audition roster for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. The actress who played Buffy Summers in the original series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, recently chatted with Us Weekly with her former Buffy co-star Alyson Hannigan, who portrayed Willow Rosenberg. During the interview, Hannigan confessed, 'I know somebody who auditioned for something on the show.' A premiere date for the reboot has yet to be revealed. ‘Ready or Not: Here I Come Sequel' Lands April 2026 Release Date in Theaters
Searchlight Pictures' sequel to its 2019 horror comedy pic Ready or Not will hit theaters April 10, 2026, the studio said Thursday. Ready or Not: Here I Come sees Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood join series star Samara Weaving.
