Ex-Man Utd star sues Premier League club over alleged medical negligence
Axel Tuanzebe is suing Manchester United for alleged 'clinical negligence' regarding the 'medical advice' they gave him, having left the club two years ago.
The defender departed Old Trafford when his contract expired at the end of the 2022-23 season - and has now lodged a legal claim at the High Court, reports the Telegraph. It is unclear exactly what the claim relates to, but Sky Sports report that the 27-year-old lodged a claim on July 9 in a clinical negligence case linked to "medical advice".
The 27-year-old came through the ranks in Manchester, but was plagued by injuries for much of his time and was never able to nail down a first-team spot.
Tuanzebe joined the club aged eight and went on to skipper them at junior level. He made his senior debut in January 2017 but in the six-and-a-half years than followed he would make just 37 appearances.
The defender's first major issue came when he suffered a hip injury during the warm-up before a Premier League stalemate with Liverpool in October 2019. He was later ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring himself in a Carabao Cup victory over Colchester United two months later.
He had another lengthy spell on the sidelines at the beginning of 2022/23 season and did not return to training until the New Year. Tuanzebe finally enjoyed a length run of games when he joined Ipswich, making more than 40 appearances after establishing himself as their first-choice right-back.
The Manchester outfit have been approach for comment by Mirror Football. Tuanzebe's representatives have also been contacted.
When United did confirm Tuanzebe's exit they had only positive things to say about a player whom they'd had on their books for just shy of two decades.
It read: 'His departure is an emotional one for the player and many at the club who have known and helped nurture him over the years. A fine character, he leaves United universally respected as a credit to himself and his family.
"Everyone at the club would like to extend our best wishes to Axel as he embarks upon the next chapter of his career. We would also like to thank him for always representing Manchester United with class and dignity.'
The DR Congo international had loan spells at Aston Villa, where he won the Championship play-off finals, Napoli and Stoke City earlier in his career. Tuanzebe previously helped Ipswich land promotion to the Premier League, but left when his deal ended and has now signed with Burnley, who themselves are preparing for a year in the top flight after finishing second in the Championship.

After the Champions League winners are added, the remaining spots will be filled through Uefa ranking. And Chelsea are currently sitting 14th in that respective list, so they may either have to climb up a few places or win the competition by 2029. Nevertheless, the Premier League giants will be leaving the US with far more than just a trophy. Chelsea have also bagged a staggering £97million in earnings.

Newcastle make Alexander Isak to Liverpool decision after huge Hugo Ekitike bid
Newcastle are working on a transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike in a move that will have knock-on effects for star player Alexander Isak this summer Newcastle are pushing ahead with a transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike – and want him to partner Alexander Isak up front, not replace him. Ekitike contributed 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 games for Frankfurt last season to help them qualify for the Champions League. He has attracted interest from a whole host of clubs this summer, including Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, but Newcastle are determined to land him. The Magpies are short up front after Callum Wilson decided to leave the club as a free agent, rather than sign a new deal. They completed a £55million deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga and now want to sign Ekitike to add real strength and depth up front. Newcastle have held talks with Frankfurt in Germany over the past week and have now stepped up their pursuit with further discussions while on a pre-season trip to Austria, according to Sky Sports. Ekitike, 23, has a release clause of €100m (£86m) and Frankfurt are in a strong position to negotiate, with the France under-21 striker under contract until June 2029. That fee is way above the club-record £63m fee Newcastle paid Real Sociedad for Isak in August 2022. Newcastle are trying to negotiate a lower fee of around €75m (£65m), but that potential transfer fee raises major questions about the club's finances. The Athletic reports that a move for Ekitike without selling Isak, who has been eyed by Liverpool, would create problems with the profit and sustainability rules. But Eddie Howe is certain that he wants both of the strikers and could play them alongside each other – something that would mean a change in formation. Isak scored 23 Premier League goals last season as the sole centre-forward and the arrival of Elanga increases the competition for places on the flanks, where Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy play. Newcastle tried to sign Ekitike in January 2022, but a £20m transfer fell through on deadline day. They have continued to monitor his progress and have been impressed with his form for Frankfurt, who signed him in a deal worth €17.5m last summer. The German side have proven to be good sellers in recent years, letting Omar Marmoush go for €75m (£65m) to Manchester City in January and selling Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain for €95m in 2023. Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche recently told Sport1: "He's one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. Hugo has to decide that. I'm glad we have him. Man Utd fan admits ‘slap' assault on Man City's Grealish
Alfie Holt, 20, pleaded guilty to a single count of assault on Grealish, who he said had called him a 'little ugly wanker', after the Manchester Derby in April, Manchester Magistrates' Court heard. Holt, a Manchester United season ticket holder in the Stretford End, was also given a three-year Football Banning Order and was fined £120, with £85 costs and a surcharge of £48. The defendant, of Haven Drive, Droylsden, Tameside, told the court: 'I did not expect him to say what he said to me and I have reacted. I regret it. That's it.' Shazia Aslam, prosecuting, told the court Grealish was leaving the field after the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford, which was broadcast on Sky TV with a sell-out crowd and was always a 'contentious affair.' 'Both sets of fans were very vocal, shouting abusive comments to rival players,' Ms Aslam said. The court heard that as players left the field, heading for the tunnel, Holt stood very close by, shouting abuse at Man City players. 'As the complainant, Jack Grealish, a Man City player, enters the tunnel area, he hears the defendant shouting comments towards him. He turns and walks towards him. Both have an exchange of words. 'As the complainant walks away, the defendant slaps the complainant across the face. There was no injury. He was arrested outside the stadium.' In a witness statement, Grealish told police he could not hear what the defendant was shouting due to the crowd noise, so he walked towards him and tried to engage in conversation and leaned in to speak to the defendant. He was still unable to hear, so he moved to walk away when he was slapped. After his arrest, Holt told police he had been drinking before the game 'in town' and went to the match with his father. He told police he was shouting abuse at Man City players, including Phil Foden, who ignored him. He then shouted, 'Knobhead' at Grealish, who reacted and a 'verbal altercation took place,' the court heard. Holt told police Grealish said to him: 'You little, ugly wanker,' and he 'flipped' and reached out and slapped the footballer. Magistrates were shown a brief clip of the incident, which had no sound. Ms Aslam added: 'The defendant uses force against a player. Players are extremely vulnerable to this sort of conduct and need to be protected.' Melanie Winstantley, defending, said Holt had no previous convictions and had never been arrested before, so the incident was completely out of character for him. His Man Utd season ticket, which he has had for 12 years, had already been revoked, which is a 'significant punishment' to him. She added: 'He's admitted what he's done, he's owned what he's done. It's a very minor assault.' Ms Winstanley also said Grealish had 'doubled back' after going into the tunnel to speak to Holt. She added: 'He didn't have to do that. It's not unusual for players and fans to engage in banter at football matches. I'm not trying to excuse the behaviour.' Passing sentence, chairwoman of the magistrates' bench Jill Hodges told the defendant she accepted Holt had pleaded guilty and he appeared to regret his actions, but there must be 'punishment and deterrence' for such behaviour. The court heard fines cannot be deducted from Holt's Personal Independence Payments, so his parents, who he lives with, have agreed to pay them in full within 28 days.
