We Still Don't Know If 'The Bear' Will Be Renewed for Season 5

Elle6 hours ago

Season 4 of The Bear will officially premiere tonight at 8 P.M. ET/5 P.M. PT. The FX and Hulu comedy-drama starring Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri will drop all 10 episodes at once, as is customary for the hit series. While fans have been waiting a year for the new season, they'll inevitably be wondering about where the show will go next once they've finished bingeing. Here's what we know about the future of The Bear so far.
As of right now, The Bear hasn't been renewed for a fifth season.
When John Landgraf, head of FX, was asked if season 4 would be the last, he wasn't sure. 'These decisions are really creative decisions,' he told Variety in 2024. 'It was Sterlin Harjo who made a decision that Rez Dogs was a three-season series. And so it's really Chris [Storer's] decision on The Bear. It's about, how much more story does he have to tell? I mean, obviously, I'm hoping he has more than one more season of story to tell. But not to the extent that if there was one great season or three mediocre ones, I'd rather have one great one. You just have to follow the creative.'
It would be expected that series regulars would return, including: Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, and many others. But we'll have to see how season 4 ends, and whether FX adds any new cast members. Watch this space for more news as it comes.
This story will be updated.

Sabrina Carpenter reveals alternative album cover ‘approved by God' amid backlash

Sabrina Carpenter divided fans earlier this month with her choice of cover art for her forthcoming album, 'Man's Best Friend.' Playing on the title, she poses on all fours like a dog while a faceless man pulls her hair. While some interpreted the cover as cheeky and ironic — especially given the themes of the album's first single, 'Manchild' — others accused the former Disney Channel star of promoting sexist stereotypes and setting women's rights back decades. Carpenter has addressed criticism by releasing an alternative cover 'approved by God,' the singer revealed Wednesday on Instagram. The black-and-white image seemingly channels Marilyn Monroe as the singer, dressed in an elegant beaded gown, leans against a man in a suit. Carpenter is front and center while the man's face is partially hidden. This isn't the first time Carpenter has ruffled some feathers. In 2023, she received backlash from the Catholic Church after she filmed parts of her 'Feather' music video at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. The Diocese of Brooklyn said it was 'appalled' by the nature of the video and the priest who allowed her to film there was removed from his administrative duties. When asked about the incident in an interview with Variety, Carpenter responded, 'Jesus was a carpenter.' She doubled down during her Coachella debut in 2024, wearing a shirt with the same phrase. The singer has also raised eyebrows on her Short n' Sweet Tour, which returns to North America this fall. During her sultry performance of 'Juno,' she acts out a different sex position every night. Carpenter addressed the criticism that she's shaped her entire brand around sex in her June cover story with Rolling Stone. 'It's always funny to me when people complain,' she said. 'They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it. It's in my show. There's so many more moments than the 'Juno' positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can't control that.' In a since-deleted post, an X user shared the first 'Man's Best Friend' cover and asked, 'Does she have a personality outside of sex?' Carpenter responded, 'Girl yes and it is goooooood.' Among those who came to Carpenter's defense of the original album art was 'You're So Vain' singer Carly Simon, who received backlash for the cover of her 1975 album, 'Playing Possum.' 'She's not doing anything outrageous,' Simon told Rolling Stone. 'It seems tame. There have been far flashier covers than hers. One of the most startling covers I've ever seen was [the Rolling Stones'] 'Sticky Fingers.' That was out there in terms of sexual attitude. So I don't know why she's getting such flak.' 'Man's Best Friend' will be released Aug. 29, a little over a year after Carpenter's last project, 'Short n' Sweet.' Signed editions and copies with the alternative cover are available for preorder on her website.

Young Frankenstein Series Eyed at FX From Mel Brooks and What We Do in the Shadows EPs

A comedy classic is being reanimated on FX. A series based on the 1974 Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein is nearing a pilot order at the network, our sister site Deadline reports. The series, titled Very Young Frankenstein, will count Brooks as an executive producer, along with What We Do in the Shadows veterans Taika Waititi, Garrett Basch and Stefani Robinson, with Robinson set to serve as writer and showrunner. Peter Boyle played the monster that Frankenstein assembled from dead body parts and brought back to life, with Marty Feldman as Frankenstein's servant Igor. (That's pronounced 'Eye-gor,' for the record.) The supporting cast also included Teri Garr as Inga, Cloris Leachman as severe housemaid Fraü Blucher and, in an uncredited cameo, Gene Hackman as a blind hermit. Young Frankenstein went on to become a beloved classic, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. The What We Do in the Shadows team would seem to be the perfect ones to adapt it for TV, too: Shadows, which followed a house full of vampires living together in Staten Island, ran for six seasons on FX and piled up more than two dozen Emmy nominations, including three nods for best comedy series. Did you know The Bear season 4 returns tonight? Here's how to watch

How can the release of an Emmy-winning show go under the radar? The Bear season 4 returns tonight, and no one is talking about it. Well, at least not yet. The Bear season 4 premieres at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, June 25. All 10 episodes stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Recommended Videos The lack of promotion from the cast and the network is somewhat alarming. Most high-profile television shows flood the media with press in the days and weeks leading up to the premiere, from interviews and late-night talk shows to magazine profiles and podcast appearances. Apart from a trailer and a few television spots, The Bear season 4 has had little to no press surrounding the rollout. It's a strange decision, considering it's one of FX's most valuable properties. The Bear season 3 set viewership records for Hulu on its way to becoming the most-watched FX season premiere ever. Season 3 was also the most divisive, as it failed to meet the critical acclaim of the previous two seasons. Even without the lack of promotion, what The Bear does have working in its favor is consistency. A new season of The Bear has premiered every June for the last four years. Created and executive produced by Christopher Storer, The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto, Ayo Edebiri as Sydney Adamu, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richard 'Richie' Jerimovich, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina Marrero, Abby Elliott as Natalie 'Sugar' Berzatto, Lionel Boyce as Marcus Brooks, and Matty Matheson as Neil Falk. The Bear season 4 will deal with the aftermath of the Chicago Tribune's review of the restaurant. The review was mixed, judging by the reactions of the characters in the trailer. The Bear's benefactor, Cicero (Oliver Platt), informs Carmy that the restaurant must start turning a profit or it will shut down. Also, Sydney grapples with leaving The Bear to work at another restaurant. It's unknown if The Bear season 4 will be the show's last. The show's marketing has not mentioned the words 'final season' in the lead-up to the premiere. Then again, almost nothing has been revealed about season 4. Time to fall in line, chefs, and trust the process.
