Who Is Amir Tataloo, Iran's Tattooed Rap Star Now Facing Death Sentence
Iran's Supreme Court has sentenced renowned pop singer Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, popularly known as Tataloo, to death after he was convicted of blasphemy, including insulting the Prophet Mohammed.
Earlier, he was handed a five-year prison sentence on similar charges; however, the case was later reopened following a prosecutor's objection. After the review, the court overturned the previous ruling and issued the death penalty in January this year.
Who Is Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, aka Tataloo?
He was born on September 21, 1987, in Tehran, Iran. Due to his family's financial condition, he started working as a carpenter when he was 14 while continuing his studies. During high school, between 16 and 18, he was employed at a grocery store. After completing his studies, he decided to follow his passion and began pursuing a career in music.
His first single, which he released in 2003, marked the beginning of his career as an underground musician. He recorded the song Manam Yeki az un Yazdahtam (I'm Also One of Those Eleven Players) for the Iranian National Football Team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He is well-known for his distinctive fusion of pop, R&B, and rap.
He then released the pro-Iranian nuclear song Energy Hastei during the July 2015 Iran/5+1 nuclear talks in Vienna. The Iranian navy ship Damavand served as the production location for the song video. The song topped the Persian trending Google search. This song immediately caused controversy in Iran, mostly among Iranian Reformists who compared this song to Mohammadreza Shajarian's songs in support of the 2009 Iranian protests.
In 2016, he was arrested by the Iranian police, reportedly for promoting lyrics and a lifestyle that were seen as violating Islamic rules. In 2018, he moved to Turkey, where he created albums and organised big concerts. In 2020, he was under the spotlight again when he said that children under the age of 16 should be allowed to get married.
His first album, Zire Hamkaf, was released in 2021. Since then, he has put out 21 albums. He is the first Iranian to collaborate with Universal Music Group. He was handed over to Iran by Turkish authorities in 2023 and given a 10-year prison sentence for encouraging prostitution. He was also charged with disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic and spreading obscene content. He was given the death penalty in May after being found guilty of blasphemy in January.

Mew trend alert? Cats are now part of therapy sessions
Kitties rule the internet. Some are Reels stars. Some in Sydney and Istanbul have their own Google pins. Some make more money as influencers than humans. All cat content is good cat content (except, the 2019 musical, apparently). At Animal Angels' therapy centres, cats are trained to help people with anxiety. Naturally, mental-health counsellors are hoping their magic will work in therapy too. They're letting cats in, claws and all, to sessions. 'Cats have been adopted by special-needs schools and centres, and have become a fixture of their programmes,' says Minal Kavishwar, founder of the NGO Animal Angels Foundation, and Animal Angels Therapy Center. They're tiny, they keep themselves clean, they need less space and resources than dogs, they're not as loud either. Why didn't anyone think of this sooner? Relationship coach Aili Seghetti's cat Mimi sits in on her sessions. Perhaps because people know what cats are really like. They're not people pleasers. Even the friendly ones prefer their own space, they don't easily take to the selflessness required of emotional-support animals. Doggos, your jobs are safe, say animal behaviourists and mental health practitioners. For now. Fur example Animal Angels Foundation has trained and worked with therapy dogs since its inception in 2003. But over the last six years, they've been slowly incorporating cats into therapy sessions for children with behavioural issues, and adults who have anxiety, boundaries, and self-image challenges. They have three to four cats across in their Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru centres. Kavishwar's own indie, 16-year-old Cookie, worked with individuals who had severe anxiety before she retired. Mango, a Golden Persian, has been at the Mumbai centre for two years. Elsa, a Ragdoll Persian, and Minu, a Blue Persian, are currently being trained. Raj Mariwala's cat Namak goes on palliative care visits. 'The nature of a cat is to not listen to you or react to things you say or do,' Kavishwar says. So, when individuals with mental-health issues interact with them, they often project their own feelings onto the animal ('Maybe the cat doesn't like me', 'Maybe it's because there's something wrong with me'), which gives therapists something to work with. Aili Seghetti, a relationship and dating coach from Mumbai brings her 10-year-old indie, Mimi, to some sessions. Mimi doesn't let people pet her for too long. But when a client gets emotional, starts to cry or is visibly distressed, she'll hover gently, even climb onto their laps if they let her. Seghetti says that it becomes an opportunity to change the direction of the conversation. 'There's a subtle shift when she's there. They begin to feel like there's hope.' Mariwala's cat Pingu loves sitting on people's laps. Cats score over dogs when dealing with humans on the autism spectrum. 'Some people don't like the sound of barking, the sensation of being licked, or having a wet nose pushed into their palm,' says Raj Mariwala, a canine and feline behaviourist and director at Mariwala Health Initiative, Mumbai. There's also no need to baby-talk a cat. For individuals with autism, who struggle to talk to people or animals, it makes a huge difference. Subordinate claws Therapy cats are best trained early — in the first eight to 10 weeks. But cat-training might be a euphemism. It's the humans who get trained to decode what felines like and dislike and tolerate. 'So, it's not command-based training as with dogs, but tailoring the training to their personalities.' Training a dog for therapy takes between six and eight months. For cats, it can take a year or more, says Kavishwar. 'You need to teach them to stay on a harness and expose them to different types of touch, smells, environments, car travel, new places and people — especially children — and sudden sounds and movements.' Cat behaviourist Amanda Tong says that cat behaviour is hard to generalise. And only cats with stable temperaments are considered in the first place. 'If the cat is friendly when I see him in his home, and shows the same amount of friendliness, inquisitiveness and confidence when he is somewhere else and surrounded by different people,' it's an encouraging sign, she says. 'We're not selecting an animal at random and putting it to work.' Mariwala takes along her nine-year-old ginger cat, Namak, for palliative-care visits. He sits at the foot of a bed, waiting until the person is ready to give him attention. 'He's used to the medical smells and the whirring of the machines — I can't do that with my other younger cats, Pingu and Shakira.' Cats de-stress faster, often with a grooming session and quick nap, while dogs prefer active play, which is tiring for a counsellor after a session. But the biggest advantage that felines have over canines is the ability to sit in a patient's lap. 'It's especially useful for senior citizens or bedridden patients who can't bend down to play with a dog,' says Mariwala. And cats actively choose to be patient. 'Mango worked with a child on the autism spectrum who was initially terrified of animals,' recalls Kavishwar. 'In the first session, the boy refused to be in the same room with Mango. He gradually grew curious and made sustained eye contact — a huge improvement. The entire time, you could sense that Mango was choosing to engage with him, not the other way around.' Minal Kavishwar's cat Cookie, 16, worked with people with severe anxiety before she retired. Dogs are easier to read too, says Mariwala. 'But with a cat, the signs are more subtle, and you may miss it until they start biting and scratching.' That can derail therapy, so Mariwala trains cats to retreat to a safe space when they don't want attention. Namak sits near his carrier container. Pingu and Shakira, head to the exit door. Paws and play Behaviourists are fighting the notion that cats are low-maintenance. And there's still a bit of the wild in them, says Amanda Tong, founder of The Animal Behaviour Academy in Mumbai. 'They still possess hunting genes and instincts that make them cautious, as they are both predators and prey. So, every individual feline has their own unique personality and will have a wide variety of preferences, making it hard to generalise behaviour.' But the reason cat therapy hasn't taken off is because the field is too new. 'There's no standardised protocol for training,' explains Mariwala. 'There aren't as many studies conducted on cats — especially cats in free-roaming cultures such as India.' From HT Brunch, August 23, 2025 Follow us on

Anita Advani says Rajesh Khanna's family abandoned him yet inherited his entire property while she got nothing: 'You can't escape Karma'
Anita Advani, who recently revealed that she was secretly married to India's first superstar Rajesh Khanna and lived together for nearly 12 years, has revealed new details about his final years, his family's absence, and the property battle that continues to this day. 'Everyone had left him' When asked why his family did not support him despite having such a 'beautiful family' — two actress daughters, Twinkle and Rinke, son-in-law Akshay Kumar , and wife Dimple Kapadia — Anita said on REEL Meet REAL, 'She (Dimple) had left him in 1982, and for 30 years, she had no connection with him. He had already lost everything by then; everyone had left him. He was stuck in between. He wasn't even getting a divorce, so he remained trapped. No divorce, no resolution.' Family inherited property, not her Despite years of togetherness, Anita said she was left with nothing. 'The discussion did take place but in the end, when he was not even conscious, everything was done in such a way that it went completely out of control — beyond anyone's reach, including his own. Yet, the family got his entire property. That in itself is a big story.' She added that she has been locked in legal battles ever since, with the case still ongoing in the High Court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'Recently, I even received a statement from the Supreme Court. They said the earlier order against me held no weight, that its observations did not matter. So now, the case continues.' Anita Advani claims right over Rajesh Khanna's bungalow 'No one takes anything with them' Reflecting on greed and betrayal, Anita said, 'No one takes anything with them when they go. So why cheat like this? No one can eat or carry so much money after death. Then why such greed? Every relationship deserves respect. In my heart, I know — everyone should get what they rightfully deserve. Karma comes around on its own. No matter how smart you think you are, you can't escape karma.' Bond with Anju Mahendru The conversation also touched upon Rajesh Khanna's past relationships, particularly with actress Anju Mahendru, who was in his life before his marriage to Dimple. Clarifying her equation with Anju, Anita said, 'Anju is a very good friend of mine. I often visit her; we've known each other for years now. She never asked for anything. She told me herself she didn't want anything. She is a wonderful human being, like a sister to me. ' On whether injustice was done to Anju too, Anita responded, 'She herself said she didn't want to marry him. The truth is, he was a very difficult man. A difficult person, no doubt about it. Ask any woman who was in his life, and she will say the same. That's why Anju ultimately decided not to marry him.' Ram Gopal Varma slams ‘dumb' dog lovers, netizens fire back; catch all his controversial posts on Supreme Court's verdict row
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has responded strongly to a section of social media calling him a 'dog hater' after he supported the Supreme Court's decision to move all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks. Filmmaker responds to dog hater allegations On August 21, Varma took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain his stance, saying the stray dog problem has gone too far to ignore and solutions must balance compassion with practicality. In his post, Varma wrote, 'Giving a thought to the possible solutions, vaccinating some 8 crore dogs sounds great in your drawing room setting. In reality, try chasing down one street dog with a needle and multiply that by crores. And even if vaccinated, the dogs' minds won't suddenly turn into gentle deer-like minds, they'll still tear children apart. Only difference: now the kids will die with their throats ripped out, but without rabies.' He also addressed cleanliness drives, adding, 'Expecting the system to sterilize crores of dogs and maintain perfect garbage hygiene is like expecting pigs to wear pants.' Criticism of pet owners and adoption practices On adoption, Varma said, 'The dog lovers who cry hoarse about compassion are the same people buying foreign breeds to keep them in luxury houses, which are well looked after by expensive vets. Just try to tell the dog lovers to take stray dogs in exchange for their pedigreed breeds.' Varma criticized community feeding as well, writing, 'When the dog lovers feed strays in one spot, they will gather in packs and become highly territorial and start attacking passersby, children, cyclists, delivery boys, even old people, because they then will see humans as 'intruders' near their feeding zone. Just remember how even your pet dog seems to get aggressive when feeding.' He further noted, 'Feeding usually happens on street corners, garbage heaps, or outside temples. Food scraps mix with sewage and rotting matter, turning into putrid, disease-breeding sludge, and the stray packs will wallow in this filth and then wander into the streets, spreading diseases.' Giving a thought to the possible solutions, vaccinating some 8 crore dogs sounds great in your drawing room setting . In reality, try chasing down one street dog with a needle and multiply that by crores. And even if vaccinated, the dogs minds won't suddenly turn into gentle… Public reactions and online debate The comment section quickly filled with opinions, reigniting the debate. One user wrote, "I hope you research your films better than this story you are spinning. Why don't you use some data? It would be more believable." Another user said, "You can write long posts with your thoughts, and we can still smell leftist ideology in this one." I hope you research your films better than this story that you are spinning. Why don't you talk with some data. It will be more believable. Maybe start by reading Freakonomics chapter on neighbors with gun vs those with swimming pool homes. You can write such lengthy text with your thoughts and we can smell leftist ideology in this post. Varma's strong response to critics Before this, Varma shared another post addressing the same issue. A part of his post read, "To all those dumb dog lovers who think I am a dog hater, I say this—are you so blind, deaf, and brain-dead that you can't see children being bitten, mauled, and killed on CCTV videos everywhere? Can't you read the official reports on rising rabies cases? In any emergency—fire, flood, riots—you first deal with immediate dangers before debating long-term solutions." To all those DUMB DOG LOVERS out there, who think I am a DOG HATER , I say this.. Are you so blind, deaf and brain-dead that you can't see children being bitten , mauled and killed on CCTV videos all over the place ?Can't you f…ing read the official reports on exploding… Take a look at how netizens reacted to this. Calling people 'brain-dead' doesn't make you intelligent. If you really care about kids' safety, shout at failed municipalities who ignored vaccination & sterilisation, not at dog lovers. Supreme Court said balance, not butchery. Hate speeches don't save lives responsible action… Nobody denies the danger of stray dog attacks kids' safety must come painting every dog lover as blind/brain-dead doesn't help. What's needed is urgent action + humane long-term solutions (vaccination, sterilization, shelters). Earlier satirical posts on animal lovers Earlier, on August 16, Varma had shared a series of posts criticizing animal lovers who opposed the Supreme Court's order. He offered satirical 'solutions' for critics, writing, 'Since you worship dogs more than humans, replace gods in temples with strays and pray to them for salvation.' Here are my 10 points addressing the DOG LOVERS who are UPSET about the SUPREME COURT'S decision on STRAY DOGS 1. People are being bitten and killed all over by stray dogs. And dog lovers are busy tweeting about dog rights.😳 can love your pets in your… He also said, 'If the dog lovers are blaming the government administrators, they should go and bite the officers and politicians on their legs.' And if the dog lovers are blaming the government administrators , they should go and bite the officers and politicians on their legs and also various other parts of their bodies for them to speed up on solutions .. But meanwhile they should think of the poor kids who are being… Check out a few more posts from him. Bottom line is anybody can love any god created creature whether it's a human , dog, cat , mosquito ,rat , corona virus etc as long as they are in their home , but here we are talking about stray dogs killing children on streets A dog is loyal only because it doesn't know how to be disloyal … and I say to all the radical dog lovers out there , when you say ' Dogs are better than humans ' it's a comment on the particular humans around you , and not really on your particular dogs Rich women carry their precious dogs on their shoulders, while their own babies are burdened on their maid's shoulders ..That's dog lovers for you ..Maybe they were stray dogs in their previous birth Supreme Court directive on stray dogs The Supreme Court's directive, issued by a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, instructs that all stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR be captured within eight weeks and housed in special shelters created by civic authorities. The court clarified that once a stray is caught, it will not be released back onto the streets. Anyone obstructing the process could face contempt of court proceedings. Authorities are also required to launch a dedicated helpline for reporting dog bite incidents, with the dog to be caught within four hours of a complaint. Following criticism and backlash, a separate three-judge bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria has reserved its order on an interim plea seeking a stay on the directive.
