Pak couple dead in flat, cops suspect murder-suicide
Navi Mumbai: A 45-year-old Pakistani national is suspected to have stabbed to death his wife, also a Pakistani, with a kitchen knife and then died by suicide at their rental flat in Kharghar on Monday. The wife had stab injuries on the neck, back and shoulder. Deepak Surve, senior inspector, Kharghar police, said the man, Notan Das alias Sanjay Sachdeva, was accused of assaulting his wife, Sapna Das (35), in front of some neighbours last month, but the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him. The couple arrived in India with their two minor children on long-term visa more than six months ago. Sapna's sister, Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen, took a flat on rent for them in Dolphine Pride Society in Sector 34, Kharghar. Makhija was reportedly taking care of their financial needs. A senior police officer said following the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, the couple was in the process of completing the administrative formalities of returning home. Surve said when the younger child returned from his coaching class on Monday, he found the main door locked from the inside. His sibling was not at home either. "There was no response to repeated knocks. The child sought the help of a neighbour, who entered the flat through a common balcony. The neighbour found the couple in a pool of blood," said Surve. After last month's alleged assault, Makhija had sought police's help but they expressed helplessness after Sapna refused to file a complaint.

Mumbai terror attacks: Delhi court allows Tahawwur Hussain Rna to talk with his family over phone
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) A court here on Monday allowed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, to talk with his family members over phone. After hearing the application of accused, Special Judge Chander Jit Singh allowed Rana to talk with his family members. Last week, the court extended till July nine the judicial custody of Rana, who was produced before the court through video conferencing(vc). The court had earlier dismissed the application of Rana seeking to talk with his family members. Tahawwur Rana, 64, Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is allegedly a close associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks main conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations to carry out the three-day terror siege of India's financial capital. The US Supreme Court last month dismissed the review petition of Rana against his extradition and cleared the way for his transfer to Indian custody. Notably, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage in the month of November, 2008, carrying out a coordinated attack on a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into Mumbai using the sea route in the Arabian Sea. Pahalgam attack remarks: Allahabad HC grants anticipatory bail to LU asst prof
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday granted an interim anticipatory bail to Lucknow University's assistant professor Madri Kakoti who was booked on April 28 this year on charges of sedition and causing disharmony through her controversial social media post related to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. Justice Rajeev Singh passed the order. An FIR was lodged against Kakoti on the application of Jatin Shukla, a student and member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). In the FIR, she was accused of targeting the integrity and sovereignty of India through her posts on X. She was booked for multiple offences under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including charges related to endangering India's sovereignty, unity and integrity. Advocate Syed Mohammad Haider Rizvi represented Kakoti in the court. It was contended in the FIR that Kakoti's posts contained objectionable and provocative terms such as saffron-terrorist and were circulated by Pakistani media houses.
