Pak couple dead in flat, cops suspect murder-suicide

Deepak Surve, senior inspector, Kharghar police, said the man, Notan Das alias Sanjay Sachdeva, was accused of assaulting his wife, Sapna Das (35), in front of some neighbours last month, but the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him.
The couple arrived in India with their two minor children on long-term visa more than six months ago. Sapna's sister, Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen, took a flat on rent for them in Dolphine Pride Society in Sector 34, Kharghar.
Makhija was reportedly taking care of their financial needs. A senior police officer said following the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, the couple was in the process of completing the administrative formalities of returning home.
Surve said when the younger child returned from his coaching class on Monday, he found the main door locked from the inside. His sibling was not at home either. "There was no response to repeated knocks. The child sought the help of a neighbour, who entered the flat through a common balcony. The neighbour found the couple in a pool of blood," said Surve.
After last month's alleged assault, Makhija had sought police's help but they expressed helplessness after Sapna refused to file a complaint.

He said no notice was issued by the Rajasthan High Court and yet it passed an order restraining the petitioner. 'The wife, who is neither accused nor heard, is restrained from travelling abroad, purely to offset a hypothetical apprehension that the husband will abscond,' Dubey argued. The plea said the high court, in a clear violation of the 'procedural impropriety' and without hearing or impleading his wife, who is currently employed in the US, and ignoring the fact that she was not a part of the criminal case, directed her to remain in India. It was further argued that the high court direction was 'erroneous' and violative of the fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution. The direction was stated to suffer from procedural irregularity and legal perversity, having been passed without affording a hearing to the person affected. 'The petitioner is an Indian passport holder and an Indian citizen and not the citizen of any other country and he will be under the control of Consulate General at USA and there are no chances of his absconding as he is willing to go abroad to earn his livelihood on work visa and therefore, there is no question of his absconding,' the plea said. The bench was informed that the petitioner would travel for a specific period and ready to state on oath that he would be available for trial as and when directed. 'There is no question of delay in trial and also there is no question of his absconding,' the plea added. Toronto: As a cafe owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma was targeted by unknown persons in Canada, for the second time within a month, police said the episode had left staff shaken and created a sense of anxiety among other businesses and residents in the area. 'Numerous SPS police resources and Delta Police Department units responded and while it appears multiple shots caused damage to the windows and building, fortunately the staff on premises were uninjured,' a release stated.
