Oman launches campaign to raise heart health awareness
The initiative, titled 'Heart of the Nation: One Pulse, One Goal', is being led by the National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery.

Dr Najeeb bin Zahran al Rawahi, Director of the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery, said scientific sessions will be organised alongside the public campaign. These will target cardiologists and healthcare professionals to share the latest developments in heart disease treatment and improve the patient referral process.
'This campaign reinforces the centre's leadership in cardiac care and reflects our commitment to delivering treatment that meets the highest global standards,' Dr Rawahi said.
Since its opening in 2015, the centre has performed 9,168 heart surgeries, including open-heart operations and interventional catheterisation. Dr Rawahi noted that success rates range between 93% and 96%, consistent with international norms.
Between 2015 and the end of 2024, the centre also carried out 49,846 adult cardiac catheterisations and 7,823 paediatric procedures, achieving success rates of between 97% to 99%.
'These numbers speak to the dedication and expertise of our medical and technical teams,' he added.
To meet the increasing demand, the centre is expanding its facilities. Operating rooms and catheterisation laboratories are being upgraded with advanced medical technology, and additional catheterisation units are being introduced to shorten waiting times.
Plans are also in place to broaden the network of specialised outpatient clinics. New units will include services for genetic heart conditions and severe heart failure. Existing services are also being enhanced.
Dr Rawahi said the centre is committed to advancing cardiac research through collaboration with local and international institutions, aiming to support innovation and improve the overall quality of care provided.

Muscat –Ministry of Health (MoH) will introduce the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into the National School Immunisation Programme, targeting sixth-grade students in public and private schools across Oman. The move, which aligns with World Health Organization recommendations, marks a significant step in the country's efforts to prevent infectious diseases and reduce the long-term burden of cancer. HPV is one of the most common viral infections globally, linked to cervical cancer, cancers of the reproductive system in both women and men, and other related diseases. To prepare for the rollout, the Directorate General of Health Services in Musandam organised a workshop on Wednesday to raise awareness about the vaccine's benefits and train healthcare workers. Similar sessions will be held in other governorates to ensure smooth implementation. Badr bin Saif al Rawahi, Acting Director General of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, described the introduction of the vaccine as a 'strategic step towards enhancing public health and protecting future generations'. He noted that the programme will follow a phased plan designed in line with international best practices and national epidemiological data. Training for health workers will focus on vaccine administration, maintenance of the cold chain, distribution procedures, and community awareness. 'Equipping healthcare teams with the right skills and knowledge is essential to ensure safe delivery of the vaccine and build public confidence,' Rawahi said. The decision to include the HPV vaccine was endorsed by the National Technical Committee for Vaccines and Serums after a comprehensive review of local infection rates and an assessment of the vaccine's expected health and economic impact. MoH confirmed that the campaign will be conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Officials stressed that strengthening school-based immunisation is key to safeguarding the health of young people and further consolidating Oman's reputation as a regional leader in public health initiatives.

Khasab: The Directorate General of Health Services in Musandam Governorate on Wednesday organised a workshop on the inclusion of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the National School Immunisation Programme. The workshop is part of preparations for the national vaccination campaign, which aims to highlight national efforts in the field of student health and combating infectious diseases. The Ministry of Health intends to launch the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as part of the National School Immunisation Programme for sixth-grade students in public and private schools. This decision is in line with the World Health Organization's evidence-based recommendations, which confirm the vaccine's effectiveness in preventing certain types of cancer, most notably cervical cancer, female and male reproductive system cancers, and other diseases directly linked to the virus. Bader Saif Al Rawahi, Acting Director General of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, said: 'Implementing this decision represents a strategic step towards enhancing public health and protecting future generations from the burden of infectious diseases.' He emphasised that the targeted groups will receive the vaccine according to a carefully considered phased plan based on national and international standards in this field. He added that the Ministry of Health is launching a series of training programmes for healthcare workers in Musandam Governorate, followed by other governorates. The programme aims to enhance their preparedness, enhance their knowledge and skills on vaccine administration, ensure adherence to approved standards for the cold chain and distribution.

Indian Community in Salalah marks Independence Day with enthusiasm, patriotic fervor
Salalah – A grand one-day celebration of India's Independence Day was held with full participation of the Indian community and the presence of Omani dignitaries, reflecting the spirit of unity and nationality. The day commenced at 8:30 a.m. with a blood donation camp organized at the Indian Social Club (ISC) premises in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The initiative witnessed wholehearted participation from Indian expatriates as well as Omani youth, many of whom marked the national day by donating blood – a noble gesture of saving lives. This was followed by a free health check-up and awareness camp conducted by Life Line Hospital, Salalah. More than 100 people benefited from consultations, examinations, and specialist advice, thanks to the tireless efforts of doctors, nurses, and the hospital administration. The highlight of the day was the patriotic cultural program, inaugurated by chief guest Mr. Hakim Mohammed Saleh Al Makhzoom, Director of Partnership and Community Development, Ministry of Social Development, Dhofar Governorate. In his address, he congratulated the Indian diaspora and extended warm wishes. Mr. Rakesh Jha, President of ISC Salalah, expressed gratitude to the gathering of over 4,000 community members and acknowledged the efforts of volunteers, the management committee, Life Line Hospital, and the Ministry of Health staff. He also presented copies of a book chronicling the history of ISC, while sharing words of appreciation from the Indian Embassy. The cultural segment was a vibrant showcase of India's diversity, with colorful performances from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and other states. A gripping skit on the Pahalgam massacre and Operation Sindoor deeply moved the audience, igniting chants of 'Jai Hind' and 'Vande Mataram.'
