The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet on Wednesday announced Minimum Selling Price for kharif crops for the 2025-26 marketing season, amid worries of above normal monsoon impacting the sowing season. The Cabinet approved hike in paddy MSP by Rs 69 per quintal to Rs 2,369 for 2025-26 Kharif season, said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The increase in MSP for Kharif Crops for Marketing Season 2025-26 is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times of the All-India weighted average cost of production, The expected margin to farmers over their cost of production are estimated to be highest in case of bajra (63%) followed by maize (59%), tur (59%) and urad (53%). For rest of the crops, margin to farmers over their cost of production is estimated to be at 50%.During the period 2014-15 to 2024-25, the MSP amount paid to 14 Kharif crops growing famers was Rs. 16.35 Lakh Crores while during the period 2004-05 to 2013-14, MSP amount paid to farmers was Rs. 4.75 Lakh Crore.Farmers typically need a dry window of 15–20 days to prepare land for planting. This ye ar, pre-monsoon showers began in early May and haven't let up, leaving the soil too wet for tractor operations. The weather experts earlier cautioned that while the early onset is encouraging, the real impact will depend on how steadily and uniformly the monsoon progresses across the country in the coming weeks. A consistent spread and distribution of rainfall are essential to ensure a successful kharif season.Uneven rainfall or prolonged dry spells can offset the benefits of an early start. If the monsoon maintains its pace and spreads evenly to central and northern India by mid-July — its usual schedule — the country could be on track for a strong agricultural output, which would also help keep food inflation in check and boost overall economic growth.

55% employment to Kannadigas in group A, B in all industries: Patil

Dharwad: The state govt is committed ensure employment to Kannadigas in industrial sector and it has brought in a new policy regulating the industries setting up their units in Karnataka to reserve jobs for Kannadigas, said industries minister MB Patil. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to reporters in Dharwad recently, he said that as per the new policy, the industries have to reserve 55% of jobs for Kannadigas in A and B categories, while the reservation in group C and D is capped at 75%. The industries too have agreed to the concept and hence emphasis has been laid to provide more employment opportunities to Kannadigas, he said. Patil stated that the Global Investors' Meet has been a success. It attracted proposals worth Rs 10 lakh crore. "We expect at least 70% of these proposals turn into a reality and the department is constantly following up with the companies", he added. The govt, in a bid to correct regional imbalance and facilitate setting up of industries in tier-two cities, has launched 'Beyond Bengaluru' scheme. The GIM too has focussed on this policy. 75% of the proposals have been asked to look for land outside Bengaluru and 40% of them in North Karnataka. Therefore, there will be industrial boom in North Karnataka very soon, he added. On FMCG cluster in Hubballi-Dharwad, Patil acknowledged that the land prices have shot up and the govt has nothing to do with it. Many farmers whose lands were identified for acquisition have moved to the courts seeking better compensation. Based on the verdicts of the courts on compensation, the KIADB has fixed the final price. However, the department is in constant touch with firms willing to set up FMCG units, he added. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Patil said NIDAC has set up its plant at Belur Industries in Dharwad and the plant has come up with an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore. It will generate 800 direct and 900 indirect employment thus supporting 3,000 families. The company which manufactures batteries and convertors in collaboration with Japan and France has plans to expand its operation and will generate over 4,000 employment in next two years, he said. The product will be exported to US and other countries.

Houses outside lal dora to get water connections but at a hefty price

Chandigarh: The BJP-led municipal corporation did approve the agenda of temporary water connections for residents living outside the lal dora at 22 villages in the city, but with a caveat. The civic body has imposed double domestic charges and hefty construction charges, much to the chagrin of opposition parties, which protested against the financial burden. According to the opposition, water connections should be provided without imposing double domestic charges and construction charges on old buildings. Regardless of their protests, the mayor and BJP councillors approved the agenda. Objecting to this, AAP councillor Hardeep Singh said, "Water connection is required, but not by imposing double charges and construction charges on old buildings. I opposed these hefty charges, but the mayor completely ignored it and allowed the agenda to be approved, placing this unbearable financial burden on residents living outside Lal Dora." Congress councillor Gurpreet Singh agreed. "It is very wrong that water connections are passed, only to be given at double rates and by applying construction charges on old buildings. In their hunger to take credit, BJP approved the agenda but through wrong means, which will impose a major financial burden on the public. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This is cheating the residents living outside Lal Dora. There is no logic of imposing a double domestic charge while giving such water connections. " BJP faced opposition within its ranks too, with councillor Kanwar Rana saying that double domestic charges outside lal dora should not be imposed. However, his objection was also ignored and the agenda was passed. The final decision will be taken by the Chandigarh administration. However, sources said that any construction outside the lal dora is illegal in the eyes of the UT administration, which terms such construction as illegal. Although the MC held meetings with senior officers of the UT and raised the issue before the administrator, arguing that water supply is a necessity, the move may encourage more illegal construction outside Lal Dora. Moreover, constructed properties outside the lal dora are being used for commercial activities. "Since the Periphery Control Act applies in Chandigarh and outside lal dora construction is a violation, approved agenda of the general house will be sent to the UT administration for its consideration. The UT will legally, administratively, and logically examine all points before taking a final decision," sources in the MC revealed. MSID:: 121601782 413 |
