Scotland suffer heavy WCL2 defeat by UAE
Scotland slumped to a disappointing 97-run defeat by the United Arab Emirates, damaging their faltering defence of the World Cup League 2 crown. The Scots made heavy weather of a three-wicket win over the same opponents on Sunday and on this occasion were comprehensively beaten by the lowest-ranked team in the tournament.UAE captain Rahul Chopra made his first one day international century (101) to help steer his side to 296-6.Opener Aryansh Sharma contributed 56 and Muhammad Waseem (41) added some late fireworks with his skipper, who made the most of his escape from a big lbw claim on 30.Scotland's response was lacklustre, losing a succession of batters to poor shots.George Munsey was out for 43 in the 19th opener shortly after the departure of fellow opener Charlie Tear (27).Richie Berrington and Finlay McCreath threatened to drag Scotland back into the contest but fell in quick succession for 32 and 33 respectively. That left them on 164-5 at the end of the 35th over and from there the challenge quickly fizzled out as Simranjeet Singh finished with four wickets and Aayan Khan claimed three."Credit to UAE," Berrington told ICC.TV. "It wasn't our best day. At this level, you need to be a lot more consistent." It is just a third win from 14 competition outings for UAE, while Scotland sit mid-table with seven victories from their 13 matches. With the Netherlands hosting this tri-nation sequence, Scotland meet the hosts next on Saturday.

What the pundits made of United's 'outstanding' draw with Rapid
Former United midfielder Scott Allan on BBC SportsceneOutstanding away performance from Dundee United. They all deserve full credit, that took a whole team Goodwin will be absolutely delighted. Take this game back to Tannadice and it's all to play for. Zac Sapsford was outstanding all night, he deserved that goal and after it the team took huge United defender Sean Dillon on BBC SportsceneI'm delighted for them, they defended really and everyone deserves a huge amount of credit. Craig Sibbald down the middle of the park was brilliant, an unsung hero. He was doing thing you don't normally see or people don't often pick up on, but he was just so calm in how he did Stirton was given half an hour not just the last few minutes. He was trusted with that and he was excellent when he came on. Having substitutes improving your team is excellent for the manager and the team got more confident and grew as the game went on. Rapid Vienna were really dangerous down the wings but to come back from behind twice and make tackles and blocks, Bert Esselink in particular, was incredible. There were so many individuals who went above and journalist Moira Gordon on BBC Scottish Football PodcastBeing the team with the momentum at the end of the match always you're coming back feeling that you've been abroad, you've done the hard job of fighting back twice, you get a belief from that. In United's earlier games, people looked and maybe thought they were slow starting. There was a lot of players still to gel but I think there is more team fluidity there now. The fact they were able to do that in a really tough tie and be able to come back more than alive, they'll fancy their chances back home. They've shown they've got the fight for it and they want it.

Defender Iacovitti leaves St Mirren
Defender Alex Iacovitti has left St Mirren by mutual consent in pursuit of more playing time. The 27-year-old joined the Buddies last summer from Port Vale on a two-year being dogged by injuries, Iacovitti made 23 appearances and scored three times for Stephen Robinson's side, including goals in Conference League qualifiers against Valur and SK Brann. "Alex was very unfortunate as he had numerous injuries last season which made his season really stop-start," manager Robinson said."We won't forget his goal away to Brann and the joy that brought to so many people. But Alex is at an age where he needs to play football and we didn't want to stand in his way."
