Samajwadi MP's 'Caste' Remark On Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Sparks Row

Uttar Pradesh Minister Baby Rani Maurya on Thursday criticised Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav over his remarks on Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, saying that making caste-related comments is condemnable.
Indian Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh recently held regular press briefings about Operation Sindoor.
Speaking to ANI, Ms Maurya said, "I just want to say that be it Sofiya Qureshi or Vyomika Singh - they are the daughters of India and making comments related to their castes by Ram Gopal Yadav is condemnable. It's not a good thinking to divide the country based on caste and religion. They just want to gain politically. They'll not be getting Dalit votes by doing such politics."
Samajwadi Party (SP) national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav sparked controversy with his caste-based remarks about Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also criticized Yadav for his remarks on Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, saying that his remark has displayed Samajwadi Party's low mentality and anti-woman thoughts.
Speaking to ANI, Deputy CM Pathak said, "The Samajwadi Party has displayed its low mentality and anti-woman thoughts by disrespecting her based on her caste. Ram Gopal Yadav's statement is shameful and condemnable."
Mr Pathak further criticised Ram Gopal Yadav, stating that disrespecting Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is not just an insult to her but to the entire nation.
"Disrespect to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is not just to her but to the entire nation. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is not just a name but a symbol of India's pride and women's empowerment," he added.

ANI Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that if the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'Dil Ki Doori' then humanitarian steps like release of prisoners need to be taken immediately. Mirwaiz while addressing a Friday gathering here at historic Jama Masjid in downtown Srinagar said that train links are a welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure. On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, Mirwaiz said that for thousands of families in J&K, the festival brings no joy. 'Their sons, husbands, fathers and brothers have been incarcerated for years—many without trial—in jails within and outside J&K. And each passing day, more of our youth are detained,' said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat chief said that all such prisoners, including political leadership, remain in the prayers and thoughts of the people. Mirwaiz urged Government of India that a goodwill gesture be made on the occasion of Eid, by releasing these prisoners. 'If the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) which he often mentions in his speeches, then such humanitarian steps are the real way forward. Train links are welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader also condemned the tragic and inhuman killing of 30-year-old Zubair Bhat of Ali Kadal, Srinagar, who was working in New Delhi. "The incident is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. Zubair's custodial-like death—allegedly at the hands of Delhi police as claimed by his family—has brought back haunting memories of such deaths and raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of Kashmiris residing or working in different parts of India," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader said that the killing has sent shockwaves through the community and added to the prevailing fear and anxiety among the thousands of Kashmiri students, professionals, traders, and labourers living outside J&K. 'After the recent Pahalgam incident, Kashmiris across the country are increasingly facing hostility. And now, an innocent young trader has been killed in cold blood. How long will this go on?' Mirwaiz asked. The Hurriyat leader urged the Government of India and the Union Territory administration to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and ensure the safety, security, and dignity of all Kashmiri citizens, especially those outside the region. 'The silence and inaction only embolden those targeting Kashmiris,' he also made a heartfelt appeal to civil rights organisations, writers, intellectuals, and conscientious citizens of India to raise their voice against "the growing onslaught on Kashmiris and to stand up in solidarity with the victims of such brutality."

Bilawal Bhutto gets an earful from US lawmaker, asked to eliminate Jaish-e-Mohammed
A senior US lawmaker told a visiting Pakistani delegation, led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to take strong action against the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed and to ensure the safety of religious minorities in the country. This comes as Congressman Brad Sherman met with the Pakistani delegation in Washington on Thursday. Their visit coincided with that of an Indian multi-party parliamentary team led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is in the US to brief American officials about Operation Sindoor and India's response to terrorism following the April 22 Pahalgam attack. After meeting Bilawal Bhutto, Sherman took to social media platform 'X' and said, 'I emphasised to the Pakistani delegation the importance of combatting terrorism, and in particular, the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, who murdered my constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002.' He was referring to a Wall Street Journal journalist, Pearl, who was kidnapped and killed by terrorists in Pakistan. Omar Saeed Sheikh was convicted for planning the crime. Sherman added that Pearl's family still lives in his district and stressed, 'Pakistan should do all it can to eliminate this vile group and combat terrorism in the region.' The US lawmaker also pressed the Pakistani side to push for the release of Dr Shakil Afridi, the physician who helped US intelligence locate Osama bin Laden. 'Freeing Dr Afridi represents an important step in bringing closure for victims of 9/11,' Sherman said. Afridi was arrested in 2011 after the bin Laden raid and was later sentenced to 33 years in prison by a Pakistani court. The US lawmaker further raised concerns about religious freedom in Pakistan, saying, 'Christians, Hindus and Ahmadiyya Muslims living in Pakistan must be allowed to practice their faith and participate in the democratic system without fear of violence, persecution, discrimination, or an unequal justice system.' Bhutto Zardari's visit, which included meetings with UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and UN security council ambassadors in New York, appears to be part of Pakistan's effort to raise the Kashmir issue internationally. However, US lawmakers instead urged the delegation to address terrorism based in Pakistan.
