Egypt's minister discusses retail sector development with Panda

Egypt - Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk held an extensive meeting with Panda Retail Company, a leading player in the retail sector, to explore avenues for foreign investment and bolster Egypt's food distribution system.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation to strengthen the Egyptian market, stabilize prices, and ensure the availability of high-quality food products at competitive prices. Farouk emphasized the ministry's commitment to expanding partnerships with major private-sector companies like Panda to support economic growth and food security.
Since launching operations in Egypt in 2015, Panda has steadily expanded, investing EGP 2.5bn across seven branches. The company's first store opened in 6th of October City, followed by two branches in Nasr City in 2016, with total investments of EGP 92mn. Another store in Obour City followed, with an EGP 56m investment.
Panda officials reaffirmed their commitment to the Egyptian market, expressing readiness to support government initiatives aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and expanding distribution networks to better meet local demand.
This meeting is part of the ministry's broader efforts to strengthen ties with global companies, attract foreign direct investment, and enhance food security. The collaboration with Panda is expected to facilitate the expansion of joint projects, improve service quality, and offer competitively priced products to Egyptian consumers.
The two parties also explored knowledge exchange in storage and distribution, as well as the development of new operational strategies to enhance efficiency and minimize waste, ensuring that food products reach consumers with optimal quality and affordability.

Beltone Holding has announced its H1 2025 results, with operating revenues more than doubling to reach a record EGP6.3 billion. Net profit after tax and minority interest for the same period reached EGP1.3 billion, a 60% YoY increase. The total Group outstanding portfolio reached EGP34.8 billion, a 109% YoY growth. Consolidated operating revenue reached EGP6.3 billion, growing 115% YoY. Net profit after tax & minority interest exceeded EGP1.3 billion, representing a 60% YoY growth. The Group's total outstanding portfolio reported EGP34.8 billion at the end of 1H2025, growing 109% YoY. The investment bank platform reported EGP1.1 billion in revenues, growing a remarkable 137% YoY. Revenues were driven by a surge in advisory services and a continued expansion of securities brokerage operations. Investment banking reported revenues of EGP582 million in 1H2025, a 597% YoY increase. The performance was driven by a surge in advisory services, which currently include a full array of equity, debt, and credit advisory. The venture capital arm executed six new transactions between equity investments and venture debt financing in 1H2025. The company's equity portfolio market value continued its stellar performance growing almost 220% since inception. Arab Finance: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi witnessed the signing of a principles agreement to finance the Egyptian Soda Ash Company's project in New Alamein with about $490 million, as per a statement. As one of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company's (ECHEM) projects, it aims to produce 600,000 tons of soda ash and its derivatives annually at the industrial zone of New Alamein. The agreement was signed by Shaher Reda, Chairman and Managing Director of the Egyptian Soda Ash Company, and a financing consortium of national and regional lenders. The consortium includes Qatar National Bank (QNB), Commercial International Bank (CIB), Arab African International Bank (AAIB), National Bank of Kuwait, Banque du Caire, the EBank, and Bank NXT. The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the project's financial advisor, were also present. Badawi said the project aligns with the state's vision and the ministry's strategy to maximize added value for the national economy by localizing soda ash manufacturing technology. He stressed its role in meeting local demand, reducing imports, and supporting sustainable development in new urban communities. He added that the project will boost the capacity of Egypt's chemical industries, create direct and indirect jobs, and open new export markets.
